Tessa Thompson Is Hopeful That Creed III Will Happen
Creed came out of nowhere in 2015, wowing audiences with an emotional and insightful story that hearkened back to the first Rocky. And not only was the film a hit with fans, but critics as well. Sylvester Stallone, who returned as an older and world-weary version of, arguably, his most iconic character, even nabbed an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Given the overwhelming success, a sequel was quickly put into production. Steven Caple Jr. took over the directing duties from Ryan Coogler, who was busy with Black Panther, and the second iteration saw Adonis Creed face the son of Ivan Drago, the man who killed his father. While the film didn’t hit the critical heights of its predecessor, it was still a solid addition that further elevated and reinvigorated the aging series.
All that said, there hasn’t been much information put out about the future of the Creed franchise since the second outing. But that isn’t really all that unexpected, given that the movie’s stars, Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson, are among the most sought after talents working in Hollywood today.
Even Sylvester Stallone moved on from the franchise he originally created, stating that he felt he was done with the role of Rocky Balboa. Though he has a history of being somewhat fickle when it comes to retiring the Italian Stallion.
One person who sees more opportunity for the series, though, is Thompson herself. During an appearance at ACE Comic-Con alongside Brie Larson, the erstwhile actress was asked if she thought a third film was going to happen any time soon, to which she responded:
I feel so lucky that doing the Creed movies, I get to write that music and perform that music. And I think we’re going to make a Creed 3 eventually, so I’ll make more music then and maybe we’ll [indicating Larson] do a duet.
It’s clear there’s still a lot of love for the characters. And if nothing else, this comment shows that there’s plenty of interest from those involved. Whether or not a third movie is in the pipeline is anyone’s guess at this point, but here’s hoping that we see Creed step into the ring again sooner rather than later.

Zombieland: Double Tap Almost Had A Walking Dead Crossover
For a while, it looked like it might never happen, but Zombieland: Double Tap finally hits cinemas this week and has already picked up a slew of positive reviews. But as good as the movie seems to be, it may have been even better if they’d have gone ahead with a proposed crossover with The Walking Dead.
Of course, despite both being in the same post-apocalyptic zombie genre, their tones couldn’t be more different. Zombieland is irreverent and fun, while The Walking Dead is serious and extremely grim. But, for a brief shining moment, it appeared the two worlds could indeed intersect.
Director Ruben Fleischer mentioned the idea in an interview with Uproxx, saying:
Emma had a funny idea that as our heroes are kind of making their way through the post-apocalyptic landscape, they come across, just in passing, some members of the cast of the Walking Dead. But we never were able to make that happen.
Despite this, we know that Double Tap does feature a Walking Dead homage. You can check it out in the TV spot, where we see Jesse Eisenberg reading an issue of the comic and pronouncing it “terrifying, but totally unrealistic.”
Could The Walking Dead and Zombieland reasonably exist in the same universe, though? They do share some obvious similarities: blocked highways, small groups of survivors trying to get by and the general ruinous state of the world. But, perhaps the biggest difference comes in the type of zombies seen in each.
The Walking Dead features your traditional shambling corpses, while Zombieland gives us ‘fast zombies,’ so Eisenberg is quite right when judging it as unrealistic from his point of view. However, as Zombieland has never taken itself particularly seriously, I’m sure they could’ve made this crossover work.
But Fleischer has the last word, saying:
I think the comic book nod is probably a better acknowledgement. Might start to get a little Scooby-Doo, like the Harlem Globetrotters showing up.
Zombieland: Double Tap hits theaters tomorrow, October 18th.

The Addams Family’s Getting A Sequel, Coming In 2021
MGM’s animated reboot of The Addams Family only just debuted in cinemas this past weekend, but the studio is already so impressed with its performance that a sequel has been announced to be in the works. Not only that, but it’s even got a release date. We can expect more macabre mayhem from the ooky, kooky family in just two years’ time, with the follow-up pencilled in to drop on October 22nd, 2021.
The animated movie, which acts as something of a prequel to the usual status quo, features a talented voice cast bringing the Addams to ghoulish life. Charlize Theron is Morticia, Oscar Isaac’s Gomez, Chloe Grace Moretz is Wednesday, Finn Wolfhard’s Pugsley, Nick Kroll is Uncle Fester, Bette Midler is Grandmama and, er, Snoop Dog is Cousin Itt. Presumably, we can expect the whole gang to return for movie number two.
The Addams have been away from the big screen for too long, so fans should be ecstatic that a sequel’s already assured. Their last cinematic outing was in 1992’s Addams Family Values. The success of Values and its 1990 precursor caused a bit of renewed craze for the Addams that decade, spawning an animated series, a new live-action show and a straight-to-video sequel. Thing’s fingers crossed that we get another Addams-plosion this time around, too.
The animated flick earned $35 million over its 4-day opening weekend in domestic territories, which means it’ll have no trouble recouping its $40 million budget by the end of its box office run. It’s currently unknown if Sausage Party directors Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon – who also provides the voice of Lurch in The Addams Family – are returning to helm the follow-up, but the quick turnaround for it suggests that’s the plan. As always, watch this space for more.

Stephen King’s House In Maine To Become Museum And Writers’ Retreat
It’s fair to say that the Stephen King boom isn’t going away anytime soon, with Doctor Sleep, a new season of Castle Rock, and HBO’s The Outsider series just some of the adaptations coming our way in the next few months. King himself continues to be a prolific author, too, with The Institute currently on shelves and new novella collection If It Bleeds due out in 2020. Now, though, the legacy of King’s work will be celebrated via plans to convert his Maine home into a small museum and a retreat for writers.
The house, famous for the many photos of King outside its Gothic gates, has long been a tourist destination for fans in the Bangor, Maine area. As King and his wife Tabitha are often traveling or based in their Florida home and other Maine residence, the Bangor house is now rarely in use. The 19th century red mansion, which features creature-laden gates, was purchased by King in 1980, while the surrounding town of Bangor is reportedly an inspiration for Derry in It.
The 47 West Broadway house has won permission to be rezoned, with visitors to King’s archive on an appointment basis, and availability for a maximum of five writers to take it over as a retreat. So don’t be expecting an easily accessible museum, but rather a dedicated space for fans and aspiring or established authors. The Kings have long contributed to the local area, too, with the house being put to a more practical use after many years of fan photographs.
Of course, the next few years will see many new Stephen King adaptations, including a new take on The Tommyknockers and Salem’s Lot, as well as an updated miniseries of The Stand. You can also catch the new Creepshow anthology series on Shudder, with several other film and television projects on their way based on new and classic King stories, too.

Halle Berry Reacts To Zoe Kravitz Being Cast As Catwoman In The Batman
Casting for The Batman continues to heat up, and despite Jonah Hill dropping out of the running to play the Riddler, Matt Reeves has found a more than suitable replacement in the form of Paul Dano. With Robert Pattinson suiting up to play the title character and Jeffrey Wright on board as Commissioner Gordon, the Dark Knight’s latest reboot is assembling an incredible talented roster of actors and we can’t wait to see who joins next.
When it comes to a character like Batman though, the majority of his friends and foes have been seen on the big screen already in one form or another, so choosing the right actor for the right part is arguably more important than who they ultimately end up playing. On that note, the recent casting of Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman has been almost universally-praised, with the rising star set to make her own mark on an iconic hero that’s already been so memorably played by Michelle Pfeiffer, and to a lesser extent Anne Hathaway.
Halle Berry, another actress to have played Catwoman in the past, recently took to social media to offer her congratulations to Kravitz in becoming the latest star to squeeze into the character’s outfit, saying the following:
Special shout-out to your new #CatWoman, the eternally graceful & extremely bad ass @ZoeKravitz. Keep shining Queen & welcome to the family! pic.twitter.com/9YJ2EekcNG
— Halle Berry (@halleberry) October 17, 2019
Obviously, Halle Berry played Catwoman in one of the worst comic book movies ever made, one that she even publicly apologized for when accepting a Razzie for giving such a terrible performance, so hopefully Zoe Kravitz won’t look to her work as inspiration. In fact, most fans try and forget that Berry’s 2004 abomination even existed. Given the cast and key creatives involved in The Batman so far though, it seems that the 30 year-old will indeed be in much safer hands.

Jesse Eisenberg Wants To Return As Lex Luthor In The DCEU
One of the many casualties of the DC Extended Universe‘s early struggles was Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, who was being set up as one of the franchise’s major villains before being quickly forgotten about as the DCEU quietly rebooted itself in a post-Justice League world. There were a number of fans that weren’t too impressed with the actor’s performance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and were glad to see the back of him, while a small pocket wanted to see what the 36 year-old could do if given the chance to have a proper run at the character.
Eisenberg has never hidden the fact that he wanted to keep playing Superman’s arch-nemesis after seeing his run as Luthor limited to a supporting villain role in Dawn of Justice and a post-credits cameo in Justice League, and in a recent interview to promote upcoming sequel Zombieland: Double Tap, he once again expressed his eagerness when asked if he would reprise his role and return to the DCEU at some point in the future.
“Oh, 1000% Which is not even… that’s ten pies. Ten full pies. Yeah, of course. Yeah. I loved it so much. I mean, I was the shyest kid in the world. To get to play a character with flamboyance like that is exhilarating. I probably won’t do another. I don’t know if they’re making another one where I would be in it. But no, I loved it. It was great. I’m so happy I got to do it. Ever.”
Despite his obvious enthusiasm to once again shave his head and play Lex Luthor, it seems highly unlikely at this point that Eisenberg will ever get the chance to rejoin the DCEU. The franchise has moved on without him, and seems to be intent on moving as far away from Zack Snyder’s aesthetic as possible, focusing more on standalone blockbusters like Aquaman, The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey instead of forcing everything into an interconnected narrative. Given how divisive his performance turned out to be, a lot of fans will probably not be mourning Eisenberg’s loss too much.
