Michael Bay is proud that ‘Armageddon’ predicted NASA asteroid mission
On Wednesday morning, NASA launched a particularly cool space mission. Code-named DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test), the project will fire a rocket at the asteroid Dimorphos, hoping to alter its trajectory. The idea is that if Earth was ever threatened by a ‘planet killer’ asteroid, plans like this could be humanity’s last line of defense.
If you’ve seen Michael Bay’s Armageddon this is all going to sound very familiar. The 1998 movie saw Earth in similar peril, with NASA resorting to sending a ragtag drilling crew into space to blow up the asteroid. That’s not quite what’s happening here, but the basic concept is the same.

Fans debate which amazing acting talent Marvel Studios wasted most
A hero is nothing without a villain, and the MCU has had some humdingers. Highlights go all the way back to Iron Man‘s Obadiah Stane, as played by a forceful and charismatic Jeff Bridges. Since then, we’ve seen awesome turns from Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, and Michael Keaton as Vulture to name just a few.
But there are a lot of amazing actors whose potential has been wasted by Marvel Studios. An ongoing Reddit thread is discussing some of them: ranging from top actors cast in roles too small for them or simply talent buried under a bad script and movie.

Leon S. Kennedy actor talks playing the hero in ‘Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City’
Of all the Resident Evil heroes, Leon S. Kennedy is probably the most loved. He began his journey into the dark world of survival horror in 1998’s Resident Evil 2, in which he was a rookie cop experiencing the worst possible first night on the job.
But his evening battling biological monstrosities hardened him and by the time of the smash-hit Resident Evil 4 he was a roundhouse-kickin’, one-liner spoutin’, Ganados-blastin’ badass. That would continue through his appearance in Resident Evil 6, with the younger version of him also getting some love in the awesome Resident Evil 2 Remake. All of which means all eyes were on Avan Jogia as he stepped into the role in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

Halle Berry helped ‘Bruised’ star land a role in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’
It may have been slightly overshadowed by the respective debuts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s festive buddy adventure Hawkeye and Kevin Hart’s semi-autobiographical miniseries True Story, but Halle Berry’s directorial debut Bruised has still been winning plenty of praise after landing on Netflix yesterday.
The hard-hitting drama about a fallen MMA fighter making a comeback against all odds to secure a better life for her son is riddled with cliches and positively oozing formula, but it’s nonetheless an accomplished first-time feature from the Academy Award winner, who also happens to give a suitably gripping performance as Jacky Justice.

‘King Richard’ director teases his Bob Marley biopic
Reinaldo Marcus Green’s latest feature King Richard has been winning rave reviews since debuting last week, with the disappointing box office numbers being somewhat offset by a strong showing on HBO Max.
The biopic charting the role Venus and Serena Williams’ father played in their rise from the streets of Compton to global superstars and tennis icons is every bit as uplifting and inspiring as you’d imagine, with Will Smith firmly established as the front-runner in the race to be named Best Actor at the next Academy Awards.

Zachary Levi explains how missing out on Star-Lord landed him Shazam!
James Gunn recently went on a lengthy Twitter thread explaining why it’s so important for actors do give the best audition possible even if they don’t end up landing the role in question, dropping several names that went in to read for Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Star-Lord that he ended up working with later on down the line.
While The Suicide Squad director hasn’t collaborated with Zachary Levi in an onscreen capacity as of yet, the two have been friends for a long time, with the DCEU’s Shazam! having been pushed to the forefront of that conversation after coming highly recommended for the part.

‘Red Notice’ draws in more viewers than the rest of Netflix’s Top 10 combined
With the absence of box office dollars as a barometer of success, Netflix needed Red Notice to post some major viewership numbers to justify an investment that ran to well over $200 million, and the mega budget action blockbuster looks to have delivered on that front, and then some.
On top of Dwayne Johnson celebrating the movie reaching 150 million subscribers, the star-studded caper became Netflix’s second most-watched original film ever after just twelve days in release, and by the time it reaches the standard 28-day cap it’ll be miles and miles ahead of the competition.

‘Dune: Part Two’ star say the story is far from finished
One of the only major criticisms aimed at Denis Villenueve’s Dune, which was also an entirely warranted one, is that the credits started rolling just as the story was beginning to kick into high gear.
It’s infuriating when a movie ends by clearly only telling half of a story, and there were widespread concerns in the buildup to release that Part Two might not even happen should the blockbuster sci-fi epic bomb at the box office. Fortunately, it didn’t, and the sequel was officially confirmed just days after Part One hit theaters and HBO Max.

A chilling R-rated horror movie is making waves on Disney Plus
Thanks to the advent of Disney Plus and the company’s acquisition of Fox, we now live in a world where R-rated movies can rank among the most-watched titles on the platform. What a time to be alive.
While notorious box office bomb Terminator: Dark Fate has been keeping action fans satiated after putting in a strong showing in terms of viewership, an atmospheric R-rated horror has now started a steady climb up the ranks after being lost in the shuffle as a result of the pandemic when it first came to theaters this summer.

Disney Plus spending $33 billion on content next year
As the streaming wars continue to heat up, the various combatants are going to continue throwing more and more money at high-profile exclusive titles to try and increase subscriber numbers and gain an advantage over the competition.
Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber recently admitted that $200 million was a very conservative budgetary estimate, but that investment has been repaid by the action blockbuster becoming Netflix’s second most-watched in-house movie ever after less than two weeks, and it’s going to smash almost every conceivable viewership record.

J.J. Abrams rumored to be producing new ‘Star Wars’ show, but does anyone want it?
The standing of J.J. Abrams in the eyes of Star Wars fans plummeted following the release of The Rise of Skywalker, which was a divisively lukewarm conclusion to one of cinema’s most iconic long-running stories.
Most supporters of a galaxy far, far away were happy with The Force Awakens, which relaunched the saga in suitably nostalgia-driven style, but it would be an understatement to say that the goodwill was eventually eroded. A new rumor from Giant Freakin Robot claims that the filmmaker is on his way back to Lucasfilm to oversee a Disney Plus series set after the Sequel Trilogy, but before we get into the veracity of the report, take a look at some recent Twitter opinions on Abrams and Star Wars.

New data claims the MCU is responsible for 60% of Disney Plus signups
Disney Plus may have passed 118 million subscribers in the first two years of its existence, which is an incredible number of customers for what’s essentially a startup streaming service, but the platform isn’t without its flaws.
One of the most notable is that the Mouse House’s in-house service regularly comes under fire for a lack of original or engaging content that doesn’t hail from either Star Wars or the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Disney Plus has definitely upped its game, it’s hard to think of a title from outside those two monolithic franchises that’s managed to seize the zeitgeist.

Laura Dern shares Sam Neill hilariously struggling to promote ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’
Sam Neill has found it very easy to be hilarious on social media when he’s doing it on purpose, but his latest bout of online hilarity has unfolded entirely by accident, after it was shared with the world by his Jurassic Park and Jurassic World: Dominion co-star Laura Dern.
The veteran Alan Grant is quite happy to mock his iconic role in the franchise when he’s voicing incredulity at an action figure coming packaged with detachable limbs, or a picture of his face being placed next to a toilet on a LEGO set, without even mentioning his gentle ribbing of Jeff Golblum on his birthday.
