Clint Eastwood’s New Movie Is Dominating Streaming
It’s been 66 years since Clint Eastwood made his screen debut, and yet he’s still churning out movies on a regular basis. He may have slowed down his on-camera output over the last decade or so, but he’s been involved with twelve feature films and/or documentaries in the last ten years.
The legendary star recently admitted that he’s got no plans to retire despite turning 91 earlier this year, even if his latest effort Cry Macho flopped at the box office this past weekend. There’s no shame in that, when dramas geared towards older audiences have struggled massively during the pandemic, but that hasn’t stopped the elegiac modern Western set in 1979 from nabbing the top spot on HBO Max’s viewership charts, as per FlixPatrol.
Eastwood stars as Mike Milo, a washed-up former rodeo star who saw his life changed forever by a crippling back injury. A year after being fired from his job as a horse breeder, his old boss shows up and asks him to bring his son across the Mexican border to get the youngster away from his troublesome mother.
What follows is an unexpected buddy-esque road trip, as the nonagenarian and teenager gradually warm to each other as they run into a series of setbacks, with an unruly chicken named Macho along for the ride. It isn’t one of Eastwood’s best by any stretch of the imagination, but there’s no shame in that when the four-time Academy Award winner has headlined a slew of classics dating back well over half a century.

The Secret Life Of Pets Writer Wants An Animal Version Of Watchmen
On the surface, DC League of Super-Pets doesn’t sound like the kind of project worth getting excited about. Fans of the comic book company’s feature film output have spent years lobbying for the SnyderVerse, Henry Cavill, a Ben Affleck Batman movie and more, so a kid-friendly animation about a team of animal superheroes wouldn’t appear to stoke much interest on the surface.
However, that all changed when the voice cast was announced. Dwayne Johnson will headline the ensemble as Krypto the Superdog and produce through his Seven Bucks banner, while his regular co-star Kevin Hart signed on as Ace the Bat-Hound. On top of that, Marc Maron will play Lex Luthor, along with undisclosed roles for John Krasinski, Kate McKinnon, Diego Luna, Jameela Jamil and Keanu Reeves.
If DC League of Super-Pets hits big, could we be looking at another shared universe, this time focusing anthropomorphized crimefighters? Well, screenwriter Brian Lynch certainly hopes so, after pitching the studio with his idea for an all-animal version of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ seminal Watchmen.
The Puss in Boots and The Secret Life of Pets scribe touted Nite Owl as a cockatiel dressed like an owl, Dr. Manhattan as a blue cat that lives on the Moon and Rorschach as a dalmatian with spots that change dependent on his temperament. While it’s obviously tongue-in-cheek, and would probably piss Moore off than any other adaptation of his work so far, a pet-centric spin on Watchmen sounds so wild and out-there that we’d kind of like to see it happen.

MCU Fans Are Freaking Out Over Rumored Doctor Strange 2 Leak
We won’t know the lay of the Marvel Cinematic Universe land heading into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for sure until after Spider-Man: No Way Home fades to black in December, but that hasn’t stopped fans from getting hyped over the Sorcerer Supreme’s impending solo sequel already.
In terms of concrete information and plot specifics we know next to nothing, but a combination of the acclaimed WandaVision setting the stage and the buzz swirling around No Way Home makes Sam Raimi’s return to the superhero genre one of the most hotly-anticipated blockbusters on the 2022 calendar.
A leaked image claimed to have revealed the return of Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and while it hasn’t been verified or debunked as of yet, that hasn’t stopped the internet from losing its collective mind at the return of the iconic X-Men figurehead.
It was only recently that another rumor offered James McAvoy up as the returning Charles Xavier, and it’s very unlikely we’re going to get both of them in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. For now, then, everything remains completely up in the air in regards to who’s going to show up from where, never mind the what or why, but it’s fun to speculate when literally nothing can be taken off the table just yet.

Netflix Reveals First Image From Sandra Bullock Drama The Unforgivable
Sandra Bullock hasn’t been a regular presence on our screens for a while, with the Academy Award winner appearing in just three live-action movies in the last eight years and none at all since 2018, but she’s on her way back with a trio of exciting projects that couldn’t be more different from each other.
The Bird Box star recently wrapped romantic action comedy The Lost City of D opposite co-stars Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe, while she’s also got Deadpool 2 director David Leitch’s star-studded Bullet Train in the can; where she’ll play the handler of Brad Pitt’s elite-level assassin, who ends up in the fight of his life on the titular mode of transport.
It isn’t all about high concept genre films, though, and Bullock has a hard-hitting new drama coming to theaters on November 24th, before it heads to Netflix sixteen days later. The first image from The Unforgivable has now been revealed by the streamer, and you can check it out below.
A remake of 2009 British miniseries The Unforgiven, Bullock plays a woman imprisoned for a shocking and violent crime who returns home after completing her lengthy sentence, where she finds herself judged and shunned by the locals in equal measure. The stacked ensemble features Viola Davis, Aisling Franciosi, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal and more, so on paper The Unforgivable possesses all of the tools to be a serious awards season contender for Netflix.

Cruella 2 Director Teases A Turn To The Dark Side For Ms. De Vil
Craig Gillespie’s Cruella was a whole lot better than it had any right to be, with a completely unnecessary origin story for the iconic 101 Dalmatians villain being elevated into an entertaining punk rock crime caper driven by two barnstorming performances from Academy Award winning Emmas Stone and Thompson, not to mention the incredible costume and production design.
A box office haul of $231 million was a solid return for a hybrid release, and Cruella clearly drew in enough money from Disney Plus Premier Access sales to make a sequel a worthwhile investment. Star and executive producer Stone managed to leverage an even better payday as a result of the Scarlett Johansson debacle, with Gillespie and writer Tony McNamara also returning.
In a new interview with ComicBook, Gillespie teased that we’ll be seeing the titular antiheroine begin her transformation into the puppy-skinning tyrant now that she’s left Estella behind for good, although he couldn’t confirm whether or not Thompson would also be along for the ride.
“There’s sort of conversations about what that will be. Where this world takes us now, and then I think they’ll be diving into it. We’re in that exploratory phase right now, but they’ve got a lot of ideas that are exciting. Maybe a whole other movie. What I loved about the end of Cruella is, I kept calling it The Graduate moment. Which, Dustin Hoffman sits at the back of the bus, and then he’s not sure if this is actually what he wanted. There’s that sort of awkward hesitation. It’s the same when she walks into Hellman’s Hall.
She’s been striving and fighting for this throughout the whole film, and then she suddenly realizes the sacrifice. It’s like she’s lost Estella. She’s less that part of herself. You know? Now she has this public persona that she has to sort of live up to. That conflict I felt was really interesting, and think by the time she gets to… In my mind, by the time she gets 101 Dalmatians, she’s pretty much gone to the dark side. Right now, there’s a gray area. How she gets to that dark side will be interesting.”
The credits scenes directly tied Cruella into the opening of 101 Dalmatians, which may have boxed the narrative in a little bit. While the second installment is by no means obligated to deliver another remake of the animated classic, something we’ve already seen twice with Glenn Close, deliberately avoiding a retread of such overly familiar ground would surely be the smartest option to take.

Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts Reveals Official Logo And Teaser Image
Exactly nine months from tomorrow, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hit theaters. Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. is currently hard at work on the project backed by a talented cast and crew, but there’s no way of avoiding the expectation that the seventh installment in the franchise could turn out to be a defining moment for the long term viability of the property.
Having recently gone zero-for-three on G.I. Joe after Snake Eyes bombed hard, Paramount really needs its other Hasbro brand to hit big. Bumblebee may have scored the best reviews the Autobots and Decepticons had ever seen by a huge distance, but it also made a lot less money than any of the Michael Bay movies, which itself saw takings drop by over half a billion dollars between Age of Extinction and The Last Knight.
Throwing the Maximals and Predacons into the mix in an adaptation of the Beast Wars mythology is one way to get the fans back on board, but question marks remain over how interested casual audiences are about seeing more Transformers. Getting the buzz started early, Caple Jr. revealed the official logo and first teaser image on his Instagram Stories, which you can check out below.
As far as logos go, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hardly boasts an earth-shattering insignia, following the template set by the previous six entries. The Autobot/Maximal mashup is a lot more interesting, though, and should be enough to pique the interest of both the curious and skeptical.
