Facebook ordered to stop combining WhatsApp and Instagram data without consent in Germany

Germany’s national competition regulator has ordered Facebook to stop combining user data from different sources without voluntary consent. The order applies to data collected by Facebook-owned platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram, but also third-party sources that Facebook uses to flesh out its advertising profiles, including those of non-users.

The Bundeskartellamt, or Federal Cartel Office (FCO), has given Facebook one month to appeal the landmark decision, which comes after a three-year investigation. If the appeal fails, the tech company will have to ensure these data sources are not combined without consent within the next four months. Why That Leaked Star Wars: Episode IX Title Is Probably Fake

It’s looking like we’ll learn the official title for Star Wars: Episode IX later this week, with C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels teasing that something very big’s coming our way soon. However, now that the news is imminent, there’s a whole bunch of fake leaks online that are purporting to be the ‘true’ title.

Right now, the most popular is Balance of the Force. I’ve got to admit, it sounds pretty damn Star Wars-y, too. After all, Anakin Skywalker was said to be destined to “bring balance to the Force” and as this is the end of the Skywalker saga, it might make sense for the prophecy to be fulfilled.

There’s only one fly in the ointment, though: there’s already a Star Wars product called Balance of the Force. This was a Star Wars themed pinball video game released back in 2013, which allowed players to experience the most iconic moments of the saga… in the form of themed pinball tables. I actually had this on my phone at the time and as far as licensed pinball games go, it was pretty damn good.

Another fan favorite title is The Knights of Ren. These knights have been the subject of a lot of speculation ever since they were mentioned and have been notable by their absence in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. They may turn up in Episode IX, but somehow I just don’t see Disney and Lucasfilm choosing to make them so much the focus of the movie that they warrant being the title.

Given how good the Mouse House marketing machine has been about leaks (with the Avengers: Endgame title not totally confirmed until the trailer dropped), I’m betting that the first we’ll hear it will be when they announce it. What it’ll eventually be is anyone’s guess, but it’s a surefire guarantee that it’ll spark a thousand fan theories as to what the events of Star Wars: Episode IX will be.

More Child’s Play Promo Art Teases The Film’s First Trailer

The first trailer for Child’s Play arrives tomorrow – Thursday the 7th – as it’ll be attached to The Prodigy. Just so we don’t forget, though, this new promo art (seen below) reminds us to get ready for the return of Chucky. In what looks to be a warehouse filled with boxed Buddi dolls, Chucky stands shrouded in shadows with a knife in his hand.

Orion Pictures is heavily promoting the trailer as a fun teaser for it has also been unveiled. Framed as a real press release for the fictional Kaslan Corp, it saw CEO Henry Kaslan (Tim Matheson) teasing his company’s latest product – a new smart toy for children everywhere, fitted with a cutting-edge artificial intelligence. The entirety of science fiction has told us that nothing at all is going to go wrong here, right?

Yes, the Child’s Play reboot won’t star a serial killer-possessed regular doll like the original film but will be about about an A.I. toy that goes evil – a bit like Westworld, but if Evan Rachel Wood was two-foot tall and in dungarees. The rest of the premise is essentially the same, though: Aubrey Plaza’s Karen Barclay buys her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi Doll for his birthday and freak deaths start occurring.

If the first trailer goes down well, it should help alleviate fans’ worries about the reboot. Creator Don Mancini has made his feelings clear about the fact that the studio’s remaking the property without him, though at least he’s still helming a Syfy TV series set in the continuity of the original series.

Avengers: Endgame Directors Reveal Their One Regret

There’s a case to be made that Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame mark an achievement that’s pretty unique in cinematic history. Sure, other franchises have done the whole “two movies to end the series” thing, but the scale on which the films operate leaves, say, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in the dust (pun intended). It’s even more impressive when you remember that both juggernaut productions were filmed back to back across 2017 and 2018, with reshoots even spilling into this year.

Now that they’ve come out the other end of the long, hard process, directors Joe and Anthony Russo are able to reflect on their mammoth accomplishment, and it sounds like they regret making it so difficult for themselves. While speaking with CinemaBlend, the brothers were asked what they would change about the process and Anthony wasted no time in replying: “We wouldn’t shoot them back-to-back,” he said with a laugh.

Given how taxing it must have been to keep track of the development of both movies, how did the Russos handle it? Well, Anthony went on to say that he and his brother had the challenge of thinking of them as two distinct pieces. In fact, he channeled his inner Thanos by saying they had to work on “finding a balance.”

“I think the challenge for all of us was finding the balance between the two films. Because each film is so complex on its own that sometimes considering both of them was a bit overwhelming. So we looked for opportunities in the process to separate the two so that our brains could be fully focused on the narrative. While the films have a connection, as the Marvel films do, they are distinct stories.”

We have been told before that IW and Endgame would be more separate than perhaps fans are expecting, though Marvel hasn’t yet come clean about how exactly that is. So far, the trailer and TV spot that’ve been released have emphasized the fact that the upcoming film follows on directly from the Decimation rather than focusing on what’s different. Though set photos and rumors have given us a flavor. Two-word hint: time travel.

The end of the MCU as we know it is coming when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
