Amazon is expanding its cashierless Go model into a full-blown grocery store

Photo by Nick Statt / The Verge

Amazon is getting more serious about its brick-and-mortar retail ambitions with its first-ever Amazon-branded grocery store. The store opens today in Seattle’s Capitol Hill district, confirming reports from last year that Amazon was developing a more ambitious version of its cashier-less Go model. The new store, which The Verge toured late last week, is indeed modeled after a standard Amazon Go location, but it has been expanded to include a wide array of grocery items you’d find at, say, Amazon-owned Whole Foods.

In fact, the store does source a number of its items, including some produce and meat and other fresh food, from Whole Foods suppliers. It also carries Whole Foods’ 365 brand for certain items. But Amazon’s store offers other...

Oppo’s Find X2 flagship phone will be announced next week

Oppo has announced that its next flagship phone, the Find X2, is coming next week. The company had planned to reveal the device at Mobile World Congress 2020 in Barcelona, but following the conference’s cancellation has now decided to conduct the unveiling online next Friday, March 6th.

You might remember the original Find X from 2018. It was an ambitious phone that sought to avoid the display notch by hosting a selfie camera and a 3D face unlock system in a motorized module that rose up from behind the screen. Oppo hasn’t used the Find branding since, however, instead shifting to the Reno series for various high-end and mid-range phones.

Oppo’s marketing VP Brian Shen has tweeted a hint at what to expect from the Find X2: a 120 Hz “3K”...

Watch: Star Wars: The High Republic Trailer Introduces A New Era

Though The Rise Of Skywalker disappointed critically and commercially and is now more or less out of most people’s minds, Disney still has lots coming down the pipeline to keep fans of that galaxy far, far away busy over the next few years.

From Star Wars TV shows on Disney Plus like Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Mandalorian season 2, to an official Knights Of The Old Republic movie trilogy and, of course, whatever it is that Marvel legend Kevin Feige is working on, there’s much to get excited about. Yes, the force is still strong with the Mouse House’s sci-fi franchise, it seems, and that’s all without even mentioning the next film saga, which will apparently take place during the High Republic era.

Details on what exactly Lucasfilm is planning there remain scarce, but earlier tonight, the studio finally revealed Project Luminous and it turns out that it’s somehow going to tie into the aforementioned next saga. Or so it seems, as they’re calling this new initiative Star Wars: The High Republic and along with the announcement trailer up above, they also released the following description, which details what to expect.

Set 200 years prior to the events of Star Wars: the Phantom Menace, the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order are at their height, serving and protecting the galaxy. Featuring brand-new stories from five authors set in an all-new era, this is Star Wars: The High Republic.

Sounds interesting, and with the Skywalker saga now behind us and the studio finally having a more or less blank slate to work with, we can probably expect some pretty exciting and refreshing stories to be told across all mediums. How these novels will tie into any upcoming movies, that we don’t yet know, but clearly the seeds are being planted here for future films.

Unfortunately, we don’t have much more to go on at this time, but those feeling burned out on Star Wars after the last trilogy can at least rest easy knowing that the future of the franchise is looking to go in a completely different direction as we visit an era which has a ton of potential for fascinating new tales to be told.

Lucasfilm Finally Reveals Star Wars: Project Luminous

Though the next Star Wars movie won’t be coming our way until December 2022, it’s not like we’ll be starved for material in the years to come. After all, Lucasfilm has spent months now teasing their plans for what they call Project Luminous and earlier tonight, they finally peeled back the lid on it.

According to ComicBook.com, this new initiative will take place during the High Republic era – which We Got This Covered told you several weeks ago – and encompass numerous novels and comic books meant to keep fans busy as they wait for the feature films to start up again. Or as ComicBook.com puts it, “fuel the fandom in the years waiting for the next theatrical chapter in the franchise.”

Publishing creative director Michael Siglain described the High Republic era as “a golden time. A time of peace and prosperity. A time when the Jedi really are galactic guardians, stewards of peace and justice.” Meanwhile, Project Luminous is also being touted as “Jedi Knights of the Round Table,” with journalist Germain Lussier laying it out as follows:

Lucasfilm has rounded up an impressive group of writers for the initiative, too, with Cavan Scott (Star Wars Adventures), Claudia Gray (Star Wars: Master & Apprentice), Charles Soule (Star Wars: Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith), Daniel José Older (Star Wars: Last Shot) and Justina Ireland (Star Wars: Lando’s Luck) all involved. It’s a talented team, to be sure, and we can’t wait to see what they pump out.

Presumably, this will all tie into future theatrical projects as well, with the next big trilogy said to take place during the High Republic era. Details beyond that remain unclear, but we’re sure further updates will begin to trickle out over the coming days and as soon as we learn more about this exciting new Star Wars initiative, we’ll certainly let you know.
