Lost Boys Movie In The Works After Pilot For TV Series Fails To Receive Green Light

There’s a lot of magic within the vampire movie genre, and we’re not talking about the kind of magic you’re thinking. The vampires in this upcoming film don’t really do the whole magic thing; they’re more the bloodthirsty undead type than the spells and magic happenings type.

The magic we’re talking about is the depth within the genre. There are movies like Interview with the Vampire and Dracula, then there are sagas like Twilight and a slew of films in between. There are stories that will terrify you and ones that center on romance, there are the scary vampires and the ones that…sparkle; and there are audiences for all of them.

One of the most classic vampire films is The Lost Boys, and it looks like there’s about to be a modern spin on the tale we all know and love.

The original storyline follows two brothers who move with their mother to live with their grandpa in California. The brothers immediately begin hanging out at a boardwalk and before long, find themselves mixed in with separate groups of locals. Sam finds himself becoming acquainted with vampire hunters while Michael finds himself acquainted with a different crowd.

After a night out with his new friends, Michael wakes up feeling — and looking quite different. He impulsively attacks his brother and that’s when Sam realizes that Michael is turning into a vampire. They’re led through a world they couldn’t have imagined as Sam tries to help save Michael.

With some classics, a remake seems almost impossible, and The Lost Boys seemed like an untouchable film until recently. The idea of a Lost Boys series was pitched, but ultimately not picked up, by the CW. Now, a movie idea is being greenlit by Warner Brothers as noted by The Hollywood Reporter.

While fans don’t know much about the film right now, two names are already attached to the project; Noah Jupe and Jaeden Martell. It’s being directed by Jonathan Entwistle and Randy McKinnon who is also writing the new version of The Lost Boys.

We’ll keep you up to date as more information becomes available, and we have to admit, this is a reboot we’re really looking forward to.

Amy Adams Says Enchanted Sequel Has A Lot More Singing And Dancing

For a long time, it looked as though a sequel to Enchanted would never happen. The Disney musical was a runaway success from both a critical and commercial perspective, hauling in $340 million at the box office and winding up with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%, as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, but the second installment remained mired in development hell for over a decade.

To give you an indication of how long it’s taken for Disenchanted to come together, the project was first announced in February 2010, but production didn’t wrap until July of this year. There’s no word on when we can expect to see the finished product, but the movie was confirmed for an exclusive Disney Plus release at 2020’s Investor Day.

In a new interview with The Tonight Show, star Amy Adams teased what’s in store when Disenchanted finally comes to our screens, and it sounds as though fans will be getting exactly what they want.

“We filmed it in Ireland. Everyone is back. We also have great additions to the cast. We have Maya Rudolph. She plays the baddie, so we get to have a lot of fun together. There’s a lot more singing and a lot more dancing which was humbling. The last time I really danced as much as I’m required to dance in this, I was in my 20s and now I’m not in my 20s. It feels different in your 40s. In my heart, I look like I’m in my 20s when I’m dancing, and then I would watch playback and be like, ‘Whoa, that’s not the same’.”

Enchanted

Adams is one of the finest actresses of her generation, with six Academy Award nominations and two Golden Globe wins to her name, but it was arguably Enchanted that pushed her into the mainstream after her initial breakout performance in 2005’s Junebug. Disenchanted has the potential to draw in longtime fans of the original and an entirely new generation of younger viewers, so it’s guaranteed to be a massive hit for Disney Plus when it arrives in 2022.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage Set To Bridge The Gap Between Sony And Marvel

Since the brief fallout in the summer of 2019 where Sony took their ball and went home, actively withdrawing Tom Holland’s Spider-Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the studios have mended fences to the extent that the company’s relationship with Disney has arguably never been stronger.

As well as striking a streaming deal that will eventually see the MCU’s web-slinging blockbusters head to Disney Plus, countless titles from the Sony back catalogue are also set to stream on Hulu. It was obvious that the endgame was for Holland’s Peter Parker to jump between two shared superhero universes, and it’s looking increasingly likely that Venom: Let There Be Carnage is the movie that finally sets things in motion.

As per The Direct, we’ve already heard rumors of potential post-credits scenes tying the rebranded Sony’s Spider-Man Universe even closer to the MCU, with Michael Keaton’s cameo as Adrian Toomes in next year’s Morbius set to hammer that home even further, while Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis didn’t even try to deny that seeing Venom and Spidey face off was the ultimate goal.

With just two weeks to go until Venom: Let There Be Carnage comes to theaters, all of the buzz and speculation could lead to a huge uptick in box office dollars, at least by the standards of the pandemic era. The two comic book icons are going to be sharing the screen eventually; but we just don’t know for sure whether it’s planned to happen sooner or later. That being said, we’ve still got Spider-Man: No Way Home to come in December, after which Holland’s contract expires, so the inevitable showdown could be a while off.

Schitt’s Creek Star Signs Netflix Deal, Will Write And Direct New Rom-Com

When Schitt’s Creek first began airing in early 2015, it was viewed as the latest in a long line of sitcoms that would generate decent viewing figures and trundle along for several seasons without ever really troubling the zeitgeist. While that was true for a while during early seasons on Canada’s CBC and Pop TV in the States, once the show was added to Netflix it became a genuine cultural phenomenon.

Now widely regarded and heavily lauded as one of the finest sitcoms of the modern era, Schitt’s Creek bowed out in suitably spectacular fashion after the final season swept the board at last year’s Primetime Emmys, bagging top honors in virtually all of the major categories, with the entire core creative team being recognized for their acting, directing and writing contributions.

Schitt's Creek

Co-creator, star, writer, director, producer, Golden Globe winner and four-time Emmy victor Dan Levy has now become the latest big name to sign an exclusive development deal with Netflix, and he’s already settled on his first project. As per Deadline, the 38 year-old will pen and helm a currently untitled romantic comedy.

Levy is still under contract with ABC until next summer, so the TV side of his deal won’t kick in until then, but he’s clearly not wasting any time getting to work for Netflix, which is the smart move when his popularity and name value are at an all-time high.

Batgirl Directors Getting Hyped Over Their HBO Max Movie

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah would have been fielding plenty of offers in the wake of Bad Boys for Life, which scored the best reviews the classic buddy cop franchise had ever seen, which is no mean feat when the duo were bringing Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett back to the big screen for the first time in seventeen years.

A 77% Rotten Tomatoes score and $426 million haul at the box office is a solid return for an R-rated threequel, but the filmmakers surprised a lot of people when they settled on HBO Max’s Batgirl as their next project. For one thing, they’ve been attached to Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop 4 since before they took the Bad Boys gig, but the script from DCEU veteran Christina Hodson must have really caught their eye.

Production is rumored to begin as soon as November, with an eye to having Barbara Gordon’s solo debut hit streaming before the end of 2022. As you can see in the image below, El Arbi is hyped to be standing in his production office, with the iconic insignia taking pride of place on the carpet.

Leslie Grace is just as excited as El Arbi and Fallah, with the actress admitting she can barely wrap her head around the fact she gets to play a superhero in an effects-driven blockbuster. Batgirl has been in the works for while and gone through numerous iterations, but shooting is finally gearing up to begin with a talented creative team in place, so the movie will hopefully be worth the wait.

Jonathan Majors Explains How He Was Cast As Kang The Conqueror

Marvel Studios take meetings with talent all the time, and sometimes it’ll be years before they circle back around and settle on a project to work on together. Chadwick Boseman’s first encounter with the studio saw him audition for Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Drax the Destroyer, and while Kevin Feige and his team went with Dave Bautista instead, they knew the actor was a special talent that would be a much better fit for another role later on down the line.

The comic book juggernaut will no doubt have casting wish-lists compiled well ahead of actual offers being made, and very few stars end up turning down the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it comes calling. In a new interview with Total Film magazine, Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors revealed how he ended up being cast as Phase Four’s big bad Kang the Conqueror.

“I guess after The Last Black Man in San Francisco. I can’t say it was that film at all. The Marvel team has their ways. It’s very much like getting a role in drama school. They’re just watching. You don’t audition for roles. You get into drama school, then the dean will watch what you’re doing. If they wanted you, you get tapped. That’s kind of what happened.”

The Last Black Man in San Francisco was released in January 2019, and it was only Majors’ fourth feature film appearance, but he ended up landing the role of Kang in September 2020. In between those two points he only enhanced his credentials as one of the industry’s fastest-rising talents, with the 32 year-old now set to wreak havoc on the world’s biggest franchise as the MCU’s next Thanos-level threat.

It’s been a remarkable few years for Majors, and it sounds as though Marvel had been keeping tabs on him for quite some time before they decided to take the plunge and offer him what could turn out to be one of the juiciest recurring parts in the brand’s history.

Andrew Garfield Admits He Hated The Social Network

Andrew Garfield may have become a household name when he was cast as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man, but it was David Fincher’s The Social Network that first saw him gain attention in Hollywood, with only a handful of supporting roles in low budget dramas under his belt before that point.

The gripping tale about the origins of Facebook ended up landing eight Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and Best Director, with Aaron Sorkin scooping the prize for Best Adapted Screenplay, while Garfield found himself shortlisted at the Golden Globes in the Best Supporting Actor category.

However, the 38 year-old admitted in a new interview with Total Film magazine that he hated the movie when he saw it for the first time, with both Garfield and Jesse Eisenberg fearing that they’d ruined The Social Network by delivering poor performances.

“I’m very rarely satisfied with how something turns out. I suffer from that kind of queer, divine dissatisfaction that most creative people have. I remember watching The Social Network for the first time, and me and Jesse were like, ‘Oh, we hate this sh*t. We hate it’. Everyone around us was going, ‘What the f*ck is wrong with you? It’s incredible’. We were like, ‘No. I ruined it. They should have cast someone else’. There’s a healthy version of that, which is the growing down thing. But then sometimes it turns into an indulgence.”

The Social Network

That obviously wasn’t the case, with Eisenberg even landing a Best Actor nod at the Oscars, but a lot of actors aren’t happy with their performances regardless of what the critics and awards bodies think. Even a decade and change later, The Social Network still ranks as some of Garfield’s best work, so he clearly did something right.

Warner Bros. Reportedly Wants DCEU To Focus On HBO Max Projects

As the landscape continues to change in the streaming wars, we’ve been seeing some major studios start to move further and further away from the theatrical model. Paramount+ have already gone public with the intention to focus largely on in-house exclusives that you can watch from the comfort of your own home, while branded blockbusters will make up the bulk of the company’s big screen releases.

HBO Max has been looking to gain some ground on the likes of Netflix, Prime Video and Disney Plus for a while, and we’re hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Ben Affleck would be returning as Batman in The Flash long before it was confirmed – that Warner Bros. could be leaning hard into streaming when it comes to DCEU content to try and close the gap.

While the franchise is never going to abandon theaters entirely when there’s still billions of dollars to be made, a quick glance at the upcoming slate of projects indicates that a shift is quietly underway as we speak. Batgirl, Blue Beetle, Black Canary, The Batman spinoffs focusing on the Gotham City PD and Penguin, Justice League Dark, Madame X, Constantine, Michael B. Jordan’s Val-Zod Superman, Peacemaker and Green Lantern are all in the works.

That’s eleven feature length or episodic streaming exclusives on the docket, with Black Adam, The Flash, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Batman, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Zatanna and Wonder Woman 3 the only movies officially in active development and heading to multiplexes only, so the tides are clearly beginning to turn in favor of HBO Max already.
