Netflix boss compares ‘The Gray Man’ to James Bond and Jason Bourne

Netflix has been open in admitting that the company desperately desires a marquee franchise that it can call its own, something that has the potential to reach the level of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars or Harry Potter.

While that hasn’t happened as of yet, the platform is doing a nice line in multi-film action sagas. On top of Red Notice becoming the platform’s most-watched original move ever, sequels to Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction and Charlize Theron’s The Old Guard are in the works, while Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead has prequels, sequels and animated companion pieces in development.

Lady Gaga reveals if she’d ever star in a superhero movie

Lady Gaga hasn’t ventured into the world of acting all that regularly, but when she does, it virtually guarantees an acclaimed performance that more often than not yields plenty of awards season recognition.

Since first making it big as a music superstar, the singer and actress has only lent her talents to Robert Rodriguez’s action sequel Machete Kills, Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born and Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, while her episodic experience extends to American Horror Story: Hotel.

‘No Way Home’ no longer highest-rated ‘Spider-Man’ movie on Rotten Tomatoes

While the early reactions were as overwhelmingly positive as fans had been hoping and expecting, those celebrating Spider-Man: No Way Home landing a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes were admittedly marking the milestone far too soon.

Scores inevitably drop, and while we’re not talking about the multiversal epic plummeting down the rankings on a scale that comes close to anything resembling what happened to Eternals, it hasn’t taken long for Tom Holland’s third solo outing to lose the top spot among the Spider-Man back catalogue, although it does remain top of the live-action pile for the time being.

First images revealed from romantic action comedy ‘The Lost City’

Action comedies are everywhere you look these days, and the odd couple buddy adventure remains as popular as ever, which makes it increasingly difficult for new entries into the genre to put fresh spins on the well-worn tropes. However, The Lost City has enough about it on paper to ensure that it’s at least going to give it a serious shot.

Sandra Bullock stars as a romance novelist on a book tour promoting her latest work, where she’s accompanied by the vapid cover model, as played by Channing Tatum. However, the mismatched duo find themselves the subjects of a botched kidnapping attempt, one that sends them on the run deep into the jungle.

Sony producer open to Blade/Morbius crossover

Spider-Man: No Way Home is going to be dominating the cultural conversation for the foreseeable future, which could turn out to be either a positive or negative for Sony’s next Marvel Comics blockbuster.

The fact that we’re only six weeks away from the release of Morbius has been completely lost in the buzz surrounding Tom Holland’s multiversal adventure, but at least the studio knows that a whole lot of people will be seeing the trailer for Jared Leto’s impending debut as the Living Vampire given that it plays directly before No Way Home.

Netflix’s controversial NC-17 movie gets a release window

Andrew Dominik has gained a reputation for delivering hard-hitting and atmospheric movies that don’t shy away from unflinching violence or tough subject matter, even though he hasn’t directed a feature in almost a decade, with 2012’s Brad Pitt crime thriller Killing Them Softly his last effort.

We’ll be waiting a while longer to see his next one, though, after Netflix boss Scott Stuber confirmed to Variety that Dominik’s controversial Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde will be streaming next fall. While we’ve seen plenty of movies featuring the Hollywood icon over the years, this one has proven to be particularly contentious given the content.

Henry Cavill says his potential Superman return is personal

It’s been four and a half years since Henry Cavill last shot any new footage as the DCEU’s Superman, and it was hardly the ideal way to bow out as the franchise’s canonical Kryptonian when the Justice League reshoots saw the mustachioed actor’s top lip subjected to some horrendous CGI alterations in Joss Whedon’s theatrical cut.

Even though we’re fast closing in on half a decade since he last suited up as the Big Blue Boy Scout, neither Cavill nor his legion of fans are willing to give up on seeing him fly back onto our screens. There are currently two Superman projects in the works, with one being spearheaded by J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates, while the other is being developed by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, so there’s a real danger that The Witcher star’s run could be over.

Sony moving fast to take down ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ spoilers

From the second the world premiere ended on Monday night, fans immediately began living in fear that spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home would begin circulating on the internet, as tends to be the case whenever a hotly-anticipated blockbuster first screens for the press and other invitees.

However, the most surprising thing is that it was actually fairly difficult to stumble upon the major reveals unless you went actively looking for them. Until yesterday, that is. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiversal epic is now playing in a number of international territories ahead of its domestic rollout tomorrow, and Sony are already in damage limitation mode.

James Cameron reveals his next ambitious storytelling idea

The fact that James Cameron has only directed two movies in the last quarter of a century, with Avatar 2 still a year away from coming to theaters at long last, would indicate that we shouldn’t expect the less-than-prolific filmmaker to take his talents to the small screen for an episodic series anytime soon, if ever.

However, given that he’s built his entire reputation on constantly changing the game and reinventing the visual possibilities of cinema, he may have found a workaround. During a conversation with Dune director Denis Villenueve hosted by Variety, the two acclaimed talents chatted back and forth about their careers and opinions.

Warner Bros. hoping to develop more ‘Harry Potter’ spinoffs

It may have been a decade since the original eight-film franchise ended, but the Harry Potter brand shows no signs of waning in popularity anytime soon, if ever.

Fans are hyped for HBO Max’s upcoming 20th anniversary reunion special, while the first trailer for prequel Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore generated plenty of interest, even if there was the inevitable backlash being directed towards Mads Mikkelsen replacing Johnny Depp as the new and perhaps even improved antagonist.

Michael B. Jordan says Killmonger isn’t a villain, and the internet has thoughts

The old saying posits that the best villains are the ones convinced their actions aren’t nefarious at all, with the finest antagonists holding firm in their belief that whatever they do is entirely justified within the context of their own worldview, and that logic most certainly applies to Black Panther‘s Killmonger.

On top of being one of the best bad guys we’ve ever seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Michael B. Jordan’s incendiary performance paints Erik Stevens as a man seeking to do right by his own father, with his personal quest for revenge also fueled by a desire to take what he thinks is rightfully his.
