WB Reportedly Unhappy With Birds Of Prey, May Be Another Justice League
Though many will always know him as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ewan McGregor is now attached to another popular franchise over in the DCEU. The 48-year-old actor’s playing Black Mask in the upcoming villain-filled flick, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), and apparently, he’s an absolute highlight in a film that’s said to be full of them.
Though the movie won’t hit theaters until next year, test screenings have been overwhelmingly positive so far, with people praising McGregor’s performance, the gritty and violent tone of the pic and its steps towards more LGBTQ representation on screen. But while audiences have walked away mostly impressed, it seems the studio isn’t terribly happy with Birds of Prey at the moment.
Reports are surfacing that say Warner Bros. execs aren’t pleased with the current cut of the film and now the worry seems to be that they may get involved and put their hands all over it, resulting in another Justice League situation. Which is to say, they’ll completely butcher what’s currently a solid movie.
That being said, it’s important to note that Margot Robbie is heavily involved in Birds of Prey. Aside from just starring in it, she’s also a producer and given WB has big plans for her Harley Quinn in the DCEU, she may be able to keep them away from the project. Or not. Who knows at this stage?
As we said, Warner Bros. has a history of meddling with their filmmakers’ visions and not letting them do what they want, so it’s easy to see why fans are beginning to worry. Still, Robbie’s a pretty big star and again, she’s very invested in Birds of Prey. Whether she’ll be enough to keep the studio from getting involved remains to be seen, but let’s just hope they’ve learned their lesson from Justice League.

Crossbones Actor Still Has 5 More Movies Left On His MCU Contract
When you’re dealing with characters such as Captain America who have many, many decades of history in the comics backing them up, it’s not like there’ll ever be a shortage of villains/supporting characters to choose from when making the movies. As such, we’ve already seen folks like Red Skull, Bucky Barnes, Arnim Zola, the Falcon and more show up over the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
But if there’s one Cap-related character who many feel got over-looked, it’s without a doubt Crossbones, who was played by Frank Grillo in the MCU. First introduced simply as Brock Rumlow, a sleeper agent of Hydra, in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, his screentime was unfortunately reduced when he finally became Crossbones a few years later in Civil War. And, of course, he was then killed off in the opening salvo.
Still, there are many fans out there who’d like to see one of the Sentinel of Liberty’s greatest modern villains make a return and though it hasn’t happened just yet – save for that quick cameo in Endgame – it doesn’t sound like it’s out of the question. After all, according to Grillo, he still has 5 more movies left on his Marvel contract.
While speaking to ComicBook.com to promote his new film Point Blank, the actor revealed the following:
“You know what? I got five more movies that I’m obligated to do for Marvel if they ever call me. So who knows, man?”
Of course, just because he’s got a few films left on his contract, that doesn’t mean the studio will ever bring him back. Still, it’s interesting to learn that the possibility remains. After all, though he was seemingly killed in Civil War, we never saw the body. And you have to imagine Marvel knows the fans feel that Crossbones got a bit of a shaft.
For now though, we’ll just have to wait and see if the villain factors into their Phase 4 plans, but tell us, would you be into seeing Grillo return to the MCU in an increased capacity? Sound off down below and let us know.
