The news that Sony and Disney had come to a new agreement found fans across the world breathing a collective sigh of relief. Not only will Spider-Man‘s next feature now be produced by Marvel Studios and take place in the MCU, but the creative team will, in a lot of peoples’ eyes, be guided by the best talent in Hollywood.
Not that we want to relive those crazy times when Spidey was out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but for a while there, it wasn’t looking good for the web-slinger and for Tom Holland, those few weeks where the fate of Peter Parker was left uncertain was the most stressful time of his life.
So says the actor himself, who was speaking at a panel at ACE Comic Con Midwest this week and apparently revealed that to the audience. Though frankly, it’s a bit surprising to hear, as Tom handled himself extremely well throughout it all, appearing to be pretty calm and cool about the whole thing on social media back when it was happening. Perhaps he was just putting on a brave face for his fans?
In any case, we can all rest easy now that Spider-Man is back at Marvel safe and sound, and though the studio is keeping characteristically quiet on their plans for the hero moving forward, Peter’s arc in Far From Home has already given us a pretty good idea of what comes next. Of course, things can always change given that his next solo outing is still a few years away, but whatever it is that Kevin Feige and co. are cooking up, we’ve got faith that they’ll be able to conclude the hero’s trilogy in a satisfying fashion.
And we’ll find out exactly what they have in store for us when Spider-Man 3 hits theaters on July 16th, 2021. In the meantime, be sure to let us know what you want to see from the threequel by dropping a comment down below.
Like it or lump it, it seems that people just can’t get enough of Warner Bros. and Todd Phillips’ Joker movie.
It’s a standalone film revolving around the iconic Mr. J, taking us deep into the bowels of a 1980s Gotham ravaged by poverty and crime. Within this cesspool of violence, we watch as Arthur Fleck begins his spiral of decline and winds up sparking a revolution.
That, in a nutshell, is the basic plot that anchors Joker – a narrative so dark and depressing that it prompted genuine trepidation among theater chains. The ending is awfully bleak, too, but could there be more to come from this pocket of the DC Universe? Could we see Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur return in another film? That remains to be seen, but it’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility.
Sources close to We Got This Covered – the same ones who told us Viola Davis was returning for The Suicide Squad, that Black Adam will be in Shazam! 3 and that The CW was developing an Arrow spinoff, all of which we now know to be true – Warner Bros. is “definitely interested” in doing a Joker sequel. That doesn’t mean it’ll 100% happen and it hasn’t been given the green light just yet, but there’s certainly interest in exploring more of Arthur Fleck’s story.
Now sitting pretty at $307 million and expected to pull in quite a bit more this weekend, Joker has proven itself to be a major success and we know that both Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix have already shown interest in the possibility of doing more with the character. Whether we actually end up with a sequel will be told in time, but with the critical and commercial success the pic is seeing right now, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if Warner Bros. officially announces something in the new year. Watch this space for more.
Joker has to be one of the most divisive comic book movies we’ve seen in some time, partly because it’s so unlike other films in the genre. One of the biggest Batman fans there is, though, has given Todd Phillips’ dark psychological thriller his stamp of approval: the Joker himself (well, another one, at least), Mark Hamill.
In case you missed it last week, Hamill took to Twitter on the day of Joker‘s release to plug the movie – despite having nothing to do with it – and gave it “2 thumbs up.” The star even attached a fun picture from the archives featuring the cast of Batman: The Animated Series.
The #JokerMovie opens today. The awesome Joaquin Phoenix, Todd Phillips & Scott Silver brilliantly reimagine the character as never seen before! 2 thumbs up from that old-school, comic book version… me.

Hamill’s always been unfailingly complimentary to other actor’s interpretations of the Joker, previously going on record to praise Heath Ledger and Jared Leto. Phoenix’s take on the iconic role is pretty out-there, though, so you might think that Hamill, being a longtime fan, could have some problems with it. Much as he understandably did with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, for example. However, it seems his feelings are firmly positive.
Hamill’s BTAS co-star and good friend Kevin Conroy also retweeted Hamill’s message that day, which suggests he was a fan of the film, too. A fellow former in the form of Batman Christian Bale has likewise given Joker his blessing, even admitting that it was “brave” of Phoenix to try to match the high bar Ledger set.
Obviously, not everyone’s a supporter of the movie, with the film coming under attack for its possible real-world ramifications, rewriting of Batman canon and even a highly controversial song choice. Oh, and Leto wasn’t best pleased that he’d been replaced.
All that said, Warmer Bros. will no doubt see Joker as a success, with it currently smashing box office records. Phoenix is even up for a sequel, but we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out.
