The Craft Producer Says He’s Really Happy With The Reboot
Blumhouse are so relentless, and formidable, with their horror production that I doubt even a pandemic could stop them from frightening us. One of the myriad titles they have prepped in the vault is a reboot/remake of cult 90s horror The Craft. We don’t know yet when the film will be released (it’s possible the pandemic has added to the uncertainty), but when it does, few will have more emotional investment than its producer Doug Wilk.
That’s because he also produced the original – one of his first film credits. Speaking to ComicBook.com, Wilk discussed how he approached returning to it, saying the following:
“It’s always challenging, because I did The Craft so many years ago, and I started doing it because I just wanted to make a movie about teen-aged girls coming into their sexuality and as I was reading about it, I was reading that the age-old mythology for talking about female empowerment and fear of it was witchcraft.
So then I started going to writers to try and do that. We talked to so many people and we found a really talented female writer/director [Zoe Lister-Jones] and we’re happy with what she’s doing, so we’ll see.”
It must be a title that Wilk cares a great deal about. The Craft probably isn’t a film most people will be familiar with (most people ought to have sufficient scope to exclude the more ardent horror nerds among you), but it’s evidently stuck with Wilk, and with Jason Blum’s backing, one imagines this could break into the mainstream.
Mainstream is where Blum has pushed his studio with quality, and it must be said, quantity. Last year alone, Blumhouse produced 13 movies, their most in a single year yet. Those films included, among others, Glass – M. Night Shyamalan’s long-awaited sequel to Unbreakable (and Split), Ma – a movie I remember for the meme and nothing else and Black Christmas – OK, not the biggest critical darling. Mind you, neither was Glass.
It’s certainly a scary time right now, and I’m not just talking about the pandemic. Honestly, I’ve got pages of these. It’s a great time to love horror-ble things. Ok, now might be the time to admit that I don’t watch any horror movies. Why do you think I’ve been padding for the last 7 sentences? At this rate, we’ll be getting a remake of the remake of The Craft before I’ve managed to wrap this up. Ah, there we go.

Warner Bros. Delays Godzilla Vs. Kong Until 2021
After quickly establishing itself as a billion dollar franchise thanks to the success of Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island, Legendary’s MonsterVerse dropped the ball with King of the Monsters after the movie failed to perform well with both critics and at the box office. That leaves the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong under significant pressure, with the future of the entire franchise riding on its back now.
Of course, it didn’t help when an early test screening didn’t go down well with the studio, forcing them to order up a series of extensive reshoots and hand out an eight-month delay, pushing it back to November. Although, that actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise given that Hollywood was basically shut down in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Or at least, it looked like a blessing in disguise, until earlier tonight when Warner Bros. announced that they were once again going to have to delay the vast majority of their upcoming blockbusters. Including, but not limited to, The Matrix 4, Wonder Woman 1984 and yes, Godzilla vs. Kong.
Though it was originally set to be with us on November 20th of this year, it’ll now hop into The Matrix 4‘s original May 21st date, meaning fans will have to wait until 2021 now to see the next entry in the MonsterVerse. And what a shame that is given how well it’s been shaping up after those aforementioned reshoots drastically improved things.
Of course, Godzilla vs. Kong is the event we’ve been building to ever since the Godzilla reboot stomped into theaters back in 2014, but alas, it seems we’ll have to be patient for just a little bit longer now. And frankly, if the world doesn’t return to normal pretty soon, we wouldn’t be surprised if Warner Bros. is forced to delay the monster mash-up yet again. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that, though.

The Matrix 4 Delayed By Almost A Full Year
The Matrix 4 was one of the most surprising sequel announcements that we’d gotten in a long, long time, as the original trilogy wrapped up Neo’s story fairly well way back in 2003, but another film in the series is indeed coming and Keanu Reeves is set to return to the role he made famous in 1999.
In fact, he recently spoke about why he’s revisiting the franchise now after all these years. And, no, it isn’t because of a massive payday. At least, not entirely.
Rather, he’s said that the return of Lana Wachowski behind the camera and the “beautiful” screenplay she wrote were the main factors in getting him to come back. Of course, The Matrix 4‘s story remains tightly under wraps, and unfortunately, it looks like things will stay that way for a while longer, as the pic has now been hit with a rather sizable delay.
Earlier tonight, Warner Bros. shook up the release dates of most of their upcoming blockbusters (see: Wonder Woman 1984, Godzilla Vs. Kong, Tenet, etc.) and though it was originally going to be here on May 21st, 2021, it’s now been shifted to April 1st, 2022. Yep, almost a full year delay. Ouch.
Of course, you can hardly blame WB, for they’re in a pretty tough position what with the current pandemic wreaking havoc on the entertainment industry and production on The Matrix 4 falling victim to the lockdowns. Not to mention that this is clearly a film that needs a lot of post-production work for all the VFX and whatnot.
But rest assured, it’ll get here eventually and with any luck, this long-awaited fourth entry will bring the sci-fi franchise back to our screens in stunning fashion.
