David Harbour Has Already Spoken With Marvel About Red Guardian’s Return

Any notable actor that signs a contract with Marvel Studios is widely expected to show up in more than one project, even if Kevin Feige recently intimated that multi-picture deals could become less prevalent in the future. Black Widow may have seen Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff bow out after eleven years as a firm fan favorite, but the door is wide open for her surrogate family to return in some capacity.

Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova was announced for Disney Plus series Hawkeye months ago, and after the actress stole the show in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s theatrical Phase Four kickoff, fans are already desperate to see her again. Both Pugh and director Cate Shortland have heavily hinted that the Black Widow series may continue with Yelena in the lead, but David Harbour has now admitted that he’s already discussed a return with the powers that be.

“There is some chatter around certain things. We were pretty focused on just this. They also have a lot of stuff in the pipe that, it seems like in this particular phase, there’s a lot of different… There’s Eternals, there’s different elements to this universe that I think they’re branching out at this point… I knew I wasn’t involved in that branch. The discussions were, they didn’t really give a sense of what was up next. It was more just really focused on this movie, and some speculation of possibilities.”

There was early talk that the Stranger Things star was the worst part of Black Widow, which thankfully turned out to be unfounded. While his Alexei Shostakov is admittedly little more than glorified comic relief, the movie barely scratched the surface of his backstory as the one and only successful Russian survivor of the super soldier experiment, and a lot of his arc is based around his unhappiness that Steve Rogers became an icon for his efforts, but Red Guardian was sent to prison.

Realistically, you could easily imagine Red Guardian making a return to the fold wherever Yelena shows up post-Hawkeye, and those repeated Captain America references also present the ideal storytelling opportunity to have him cross paths with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson somewhere down the line, especially when Harbour voiced his desire to see Alexei throw down with the star-spangled Avenger.

Everything Coming To Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, Prime And HBO Max This Week

Now that the initial excitement from Black Widow has worn off, it’s already time to get hyped about the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next major event. We are of course talking about the Loki finale, which is coming to Disney Plus this coming Wednesday, and looking to pay off the multiversal adventure is suitably spectacular fashion.

There’s admittedly cause for minor concern when the last episodes of both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are the weakest of the bunch, so let’s hope that Tom Hiddleston’s solo series bucks that trend, otherwise the franchise’s roster of Disney Plus exclusives are in real danger of gaining an unwanted reputation for failing to stick the landing.

Of course, it isn’t all about superheroes, and there’s a bevvy of new titles coming to all of the major streaming services over the next seven days. With that in mind, you can check out the full list of everything coming to Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Amazon, Disney Plus and HBO Max below.

Netflix also has some heavy hitters on the way, including Karen Gillan actioner Gunpowder Milkshake, all five entries in The Twilight Saga and the concluding chapter of the immensely popular Fear Street trilogy. As always, every imaginable taste and genre is covered by the slew of debutants, even if some stand a much better chance of drawing in a crowd than others.

Netflix Is Adding 23 New Movies/TV Shows This Week

Looking at the rate the platform continues to drop in-house movies and TV shows on a weekly basis, one day Netflix is going to boast a content library comprised entirely of originals and nothing else, but that isn’t going to happen for a while yet, especially when you consider that over a dozen episodic titles have been canceled already this year.

This week in particular, the majority of the highest profile incomers got their start elsewhere, with the notable exception of Fear Street Part Three: 1666, the final chapter in the ambitious horror trilogy that’s been dominating the most-watched list for close to a week and a half. Looking at how 1994 and 1978 have fared, it would be safe to assume that the conclusion is going to draw in quite the crowd.

One movie definitely worth keeping an eye on is Gunpowder Milkshake, though. The streamer paid top dollar to acquire the distribution rights to the Karen Gillan actioner that the leading lady has described as having shades of both John Wick and Kill Bill, something readily inferred from all the footage we’ve seen so far. All told, there’s close to two dozen movies and TV shows heading your way over the coming week, and you can check out the full list below.

Cosmic Sin

All five installments in The Twilight Saga should play well to the elder generation of Twi-hards, and could even expose the sparkly vampire blockbusters to an entirely new audience, as terrifying as the prospect of a resurgence sounds to those who survived the first bout of mania. Cosmic Sin is also on the way to deliver yet another questionable Bruce Willis effort that should still play well, given that sci-fi and star power always tends to perform on Netflix.

Karen Gillan’s New Movie Hits Netflix This Week

Since first breaking out in Doctor Who over a decade ago, Karen Gillan has been slowly rising up the Hollywood ladder, and she’s continually been adding new strings to her bow, proving herself as a hugely versatile and multi-talented actress and filmmaker in the process.

She’s done the damsel in distress thing in horror hit Oculus, headlined her own TV series with the criminally underrated one-season wonder Selfie that didn’t even get to air all of its episodes before being canceled, before moving into the blockbuster business as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Nebula and the Jumanji franchise’s Ruby Roundhouse.

On top of that, she wrote and directed acclaimed festival favorite The Party’s Just Beginning, and is just as likely to drop by awards-baiting prestige dramas as critical and commercial duds, as evidenced by her supporting roles in projects as wildly disparate as The Big Short and Stuber.

However, one thing she hasn’t done as of yet is play a badass action hero, which is set to change imminently when Gunpowder Milkshake comes to Netflix on Wednesday. Gillan described the propulsive thriller as something akin to John Wick and Kill Bill, something the trailers have more than made clear.

A sequel is already in early development, so production company StudioCanal are obviously confident that audiences are going to love the movie, and there’s every chance those predictions will be right on the money. After all, the prospect of Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, Carla Gugino, Michelle Yeoh and Angela Bassett getting their hands very dirty in a violent, R-rated actioner that promises no shortage of style is almost certainly going to crash straight into the higher end of the Netflix Top 10 most-watched list.

Former Superman Dean Cain Thinks Captain America Should Be Demoted

Former Superman Dean Cain hasn’t been shy in letting the world know what he thinks about the current state of affairs in modern society, even if some of his comments aren’t reflective of the general consensus. Having previously blasted how the so-called ‘woke mob’ is ruining the character that still defines his entire career, he’s now shifted his sights towards Captain America.

Obviously, anyone is entitled to believe what they want to believe, but some of Cain’s Superman comments in the past have already drawn rebuttals from several of the artists to have worked on the comic books, while he also came right out and called Seth Rogen stupid after the actor and comic said that his fellow comedians shouldn’t need to worry about the threat of cancel culture if their material is strong enough.

Having now focused his ire towards Marvel Comics’ star-spangled Avenger, Cain’s umbrage seems to be with The United States of Captain America run, that follows Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson on a cross-country road trip, where they meet many alternate versions of Captain America from all walks of life. As you can see from his comments below, it’s all wokeness gone mad in his eyes.

“I am so tired of all this wokeness and anti-Americanism. In my opinion, America is the greatest country in history. It’s not perfect; we are constantly striving for a more perfect union, as we all know, but I believe she’s the most fair, equitable country ever, with more opportunity than anyone’s ever seen…perhaps Captain needs to be demoted to Lieutenant”

The 54 year-old is gaining something of a reputation for being an outspoken personality when it comes to verbalizing his thoughts on the state of modern-day Americana, and he’s clearly still trying to embody the views held by his version of Superman, even if the show went off the airwaves almost a quarter of a century ago. At the end of the day, opinions are like assholes, so Cain can say whatever he wants about Captain America whether you think he’s right of not.

Black Widow Has Joined Incredible Hulk And 3 Others In A Special MCU Club

When you think about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and credits sequences, your mind is going to wander right towards the end of the movie in question, where the franchise always delivers a little additional snippet of footage to set the stage for what’s coming next, something Black Widow obviously adheres to.

However, opening credits are nowhere near as popular in the MCU as you might expect, with Scarlett Johansson’s solo blockbuster just the fifth of the franchise’s 24 installments to date that feature an introductory montage, and the first in over a decade outside of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy duology to do so.

It’s one of those little things that you probably don’t even notice until somebody points it out, with the majority of Marvel Studios’ big budget superhero epics typically waiting until the end to thank the various cast and crew members responsible for bringing the project to life. In Black Widow‘s case, it also serves a narrative purpose by filling in some of the gaps in Natasha’s whereabouts between the 1995-set Ohio prologue and the bulk of the story, which unfolds in the immediate aftermath of Captain America: Civil War over 20 years later.

The first MCU movie to get an opening credits sequence was The Incredible Hulk, often regarded as the red-headed stepchild of the shared universe, with Iron Man 2 following suit a couple of years later. Despite the franchise’s second and third-ever movies opting to begin with visual exposition, it’s only happened three more times in the eleven years since.

For decades, opening credits have been a staple of cinema, so it’s strange to think that the most commercially successful string of films the industry has ever seen largely tends to avoid beginning in a similar fashion, but perhaps Black Widow will kick off a resurgence of sorts.

Ryan Reynolds Reportedly Wants More Nudity In Deadpool 3

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is arguably the funniest Marvel Cinematic Universe character that there is. Played by an equally humorous individual, fans of this Marvel ‘anti-hero’ are always in for a treat when a new movie comes out. With Deadpool 3 announced to great fanfare, it seems that once again Reynolds will deliver in another one of his blockbuster films. As we’re all eagerly awaiting more news and details about the movie, insider Daniel Richtman has shared on his Patreon that Reynolds reportedly wants even more nudity in Deadpool 3. If this rumour is true, then it shows that Reynolds is wanting to push the envelope even further with what he can do with the character in the MCU.

As the Deadpool film series continues to grow in popularity, it’s become apparent that Marvel executives want to do their best to keep Reynolds happy. Whilst this latest rumour is less impactful on the movie itself, it is a reminder of the attention to detail that Reynolds has for his work and his vision to be involved in all facets of the movie. Reynolds has been reportedly fighting for complete creative control over the Deadpool series, which may seem exciting to Marvel but terrifying to Disney. Nonetheless, with the involvement of such talented individuals, we’re sure that this film will be a success just like the first two.

As we continue to follow the gossip around Deadpool 3, we’re sure that Disney’s continued struggle with the Deadpool star will be a point of focus for them, with executives reportedly seeking for Deadpool to be PG-13. What may not be exciting for Disney executives to learn is that Reynolds reportedly wants Deadpool to be similar to John Wick in terms of violence and action. So much for the PG-13 film they were looking for.

Overall, whilst Disney may not be happy with how Deadpool 3 is progressing, it is clear that the movie is headed in a direction which would likely make it successful, similar to Deadpool 1 and 2. As always, a rumour is just that, a rumour, and we will continue monitoring the space to make sure we’re all kept up to date.
