Windows 10 May 2019 Update: the 10 best new features
Microsoft’s latest Windows 10 May 2019 Update is being made available to existing machines this week. After an extended period of testing, Microsoft is making this update available to everyone via Windows Update. Like previous updates, the May 2019 Update includes a bunch of new features, minor tweaks, and other changes.
I’ve been testing the Windows 10 May 2019 Update recently, and here are my favorite new additions.
A new light theme
The biggest new visual change to Windows 10 in the May 2019 Update is a new light theme. It takes over as the default theme for Windows 10 Home, and it’s essentially a white version of the currently black theme that most people use in Windows 10. While Windows 10’s dark mode isn’t always consistent...

Justice Department recommends blocking T-Mobile-Sprint merger
On Wednesday, the Antitrust Division at the United States Justice Department recommended that the law enforcement agency block the proposed merger of T-Mobile and Sprint, according to Reuters.
The $26 billion merger deal was greenlit by Republican commissioners for approval by the Federal Communications Commission earlier this week after T-Mobile agreed to new terms that would reportedly encourage a faster 5G rollout and provide greater in-home broadband access to rural America.
Reuters reported that the decision is expected to be made in about a month, likely sinking the deal that has been waiting for approval for over a year.

Apple’s new MacBook keyboard fix is reassuring and worrying at the same time
I genuinely don’t know whether to feel reassured or worried about Apple’s latest attempt to address its busted butterfly keyboards. I think it’s both — because on the very same day Apple announced a revised version of its MacBook Pro keyboard that supposedly won’t get crippled by mere specks of dust, it included those brand-new keyboards in the same free extended repair program designed to placate customers whose keyboards do fail.
Like Owen Williams points out, it’s weird:

ARM cuts ties with Huawei, threatening future chip designs
Chip designer ARM has suspended business with Huawei, threatening the Chinese company’s ability to create its own chips. BBC News reports that ARM employees have been instructed to halt “all active contracts, support entitlements, and any pending engagements” with Huawei due to the US trade ban. The US has banned any US companies from doing business with the Chinese telecom giant without permission from the American government, but ARM is based in the UK and owned by the Japanese SoftBank group.
ARM is concerned it is affected by the US ban, with an internal memo revealing that its chip designs include “US origin technology.” Huawei relies on ARM for chip architecture designs for its own Kirin processors, and it pays to license these....

EE and Vodafone drop Huawei phones from 5G launch in the UK
UK mobile carriers EE and Vodafone have dropped Huawei devices from the launch of their respective 5G networks. It’s the latest example of carriers distancing themselves from the Chinese tech giant after Google pulled the company’s Android license in response to a US government ban.
Both the carriers were set to include Huawei Mate 20 X 5G, one of the world’s first 5G-capable smartphones, as part of their 5G networks. Vodafone’s suspension of the device was reported by The Financial Times, with a spokesperson saying: “Huawei’s 5G handset is yet to receive the necessary certifications.”

Although EE’s network is launching first, Vodafone’s network is due to be available in more cities initially. Vodafone’s network will be available in seven cities at launch — Bristol, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff, Birmingham, and London. Sony CEO defends smartphone business but will focus on just four markets
Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to its loss-making Xperia smartphone business, positioning it as a central part of Sony’s entertainment-focused identity.
“We see smartphones as hardware for entertainment and a component necessary to make our hardware brand sustainable,” Yoshida said in comments reported by Reuters. “And younger generations no longer watch TV. Their first touch point is [the] smartphone.”
Despite this, Sony is far from a major player in the smartphone industry, shipping just 6.5 million units over the past financial year and making an operating loss of 97.1 billion yen ($879.4 million). This week the company said at its investor day that it was “defocused” on all but four markets: Japan,...

Amazon turns warehouse tasks into video games to make work ‘fun’
Conditions in Amazon’s warehouses are notoriously grueling, but the company has a new tactic it thinks will make employees’ lives easier: turn work into a video game.
As detailed in a new report from The Washington Post, Amazon has started installing screens next to workers’ stations that feature simple games with names like PicksInSpace, Mission Racer, and CastleCrafter. Their physical actions, assembling orders and moving items, are translated into virtual in-game moves. So, the faster someone picks items and places them in a box, for example, the faster their car will move around a virtual track.
The games are intended to make work less tedious, but also encourage higher productivity by pitting workers against one another in the...

Avengers: Endgame And Infinity War Shot A Whopping 900 Hours Of Footage
Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War are easily the two longest entries in the MCU to date, with the third Avengers movie coming in at 2 hours 30 minutes and its sequel clocking in at around 3 hours. When you consider just how much raw footage there was from the intensive year-long back-to-back shoot for both films, however, the time it takes to marathon the two doesn’t seem so bad.
Endgame co-editor Jeffrey Ford has revealed that a staggering 900 hours of material was shot across the pair of flicks. Ford, who worked with his fellow editor Matthew Schmidt, mentioned the shocking news to Business Insider, explaining that there was so much shot because the process of bringing the movies together was an ongoing job that spread across production on both Infinity War and Endgame.
“We were cutting every day, we were refining, we were figuring out what we were going to reshoot, figuring out what we had to finish. It was a constant state of pre-production, production and postproduction all at the same time for almost a year straight.”
Principal photography on the films lasted across 2017, but once that was up that didn’t mean Ford and Schmidt could kick back and rest. It sounds like their heavy workload during shooting was just cutting through the fat. It was over a four month period, including the very month that Infinity War hit theaters, that they had to put the first of the movies together for release.
“And then when we finished that year of insanity we went right into an absolutely hellish, almost impossible postproduction period that lasted from January to April when we delivered Infinity War, and that was one of the most intense periods of filmmaking I ever experienced, and I have worked on some crazy movies.”
Ford’s words are echoed by previous comments made by directors the Russo brothers, who revealed that their one big regret about making these pics is deciding to produce them back to back in the first place. The fact that 900 hours was filmed – that’s about 37.5 days! – just goes to show how hard it must’ve been to get them in shape.
So, next time you sit through Avengers: Endgame and complain about the strain it puts on your bladder, just think about the acres and acres of footage the editors must have sat through to turn it into a tiny 3-hour package for you to enjoy.

New Petition Calls For Marvel To Cast Danny DeVito As The Next Wolverine
For some reason, fans believe that their silly Change.org petitions will have an impact on the decisions that the higher-ups of billion dollar conglomerates make. The latest comes courtesy of user Ring Arius, who’s asked Marvel Studios to consider It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Danny DeVito to play Wovlerine if the character were to ever pop up in the MCU.
Given the multiverse we could be introduced to in Spider-Man: Far From Home in July, it may be possible that we see Wolverine, Deadpool, and other characters Disney has acquired from Fox cross over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But seeing the goofy comic actor, who played The Penguin in Tim Burton’s 1992 Batman Returns, don some pointed knuckles is hardly likely.
Still, the petition is picking up steam. At the time of writing, it’s garnered over 6,000 signatures and already surpassed its first benchmark goal by over 1,000 participants.
“The only man able to take the throne after Hugh Jackman,” Ring Arius says. “We believe that if Wolverine is to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the only man able to pull it off is Danny [DeVito].”
Fan petitions have recently become a new and (ridiculously) popular means of communal complaining. At this time, there are ones dedicated to remaking the final season of Game of Thrones, getting rid of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, and replacing Robert Pattinson as the next Batman.
Out of all of these, this one seems to be the most ludicrous, so perhaps Ring Arius is attempting to satirize the recent trend. But that’s unlikely.
For the sake of argument, could you see DeVito as an older, fatter Logan/Wolverine? Personally, I think the multiverse would have to extend pretty far out there to let the It’s Always Sunny star land that role, but let us know what you think in the comments below!

Robert Pattinson Says He Absolutely Cannot Talk About Batman
Ever since rumors started circulating that Robert Pattinson was being eyed for the title role in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, the former Twilight star has been the talk of the town. But not necessarily in a good way. While there has been some support for the 33-year-old actor, there’s also a petition on Change.org to replace him with Call Me By Your Name lead Armie Hammer.
With all that buzz flying around, Pattinson seems to be the only one who doesn’t want to – or perhaps isn’t allowed to – discuss it. Speaking with GALA Magazine, he quickly shut down the question that’s on most every Dark Knight fan’s mind:
GALA: What can you tell us about being chosen to be the next Batman?
R.P.: I’m sorry, but I absolutely can’t talk about that.
As of now, we know very little about The Batman. Warner Bros. also hasn’t confirmed Pattinson’s role in the film, and any details of the plot have been left under the table at this point (though Josh Gad, Nicholas Hoult and Sebastian Stan have been looking at roles as The Penguin and Riddler, respectively). But given that Reeves’ new project is set to enter production this December, more questions will have their answers soon enough.
What’s interesting to think about when it comes to Pattinson is his age. Fans all over the internet got excited when it was looking like the 32-year-old Armie Hammer was in final talks to star in The Batman. But multiple sources, and the actor himself quickly denied those claims. Then, THR reported that Reeves was “looking to cast a late 20-something actor,” driving an additional nail into the Hammer coffin.
But here’s the thing: Pattinson is older than Hammer. So unless Reeves still sees the teenage vampire in the actor’s eyes, there might be a change of expectations. And that would open the door for a whole bunch of other A-list performers. Personally, I’m still hoping to see Armie step foot in Gotham City. But I guess I’ll have to keep hoping.

Chris Evans’ Old Man Cap Body Double In Avengers: Endgame Revealed
Before Avengers: Endgame hit theaters late last month, Patrick Gorman’s most famous roles came from supporting parts in Gettysburg, Teen Wolf, and Sleepy Hollow. Though his name may not come up as much in conversations about the new films as the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth or Scarlett Johansson, his appearance is among the most controversial of the mega blockbuster.
Gorman pops up in Endgame right after Steve Rogers goes back in time to place the Infinity Stones exactly where (or more appropriately, when) they were taken.
Once the Cap doesn’t return when he’s supposed to, Bucky and Falcon start to get worried. But then they see an old man (Gorman) sitting by a lake close-by. It turns out to be Rogers, who says he decided to stay behind and live a happy life with Peggy Carter; then giving Falcon his iconic shield, he seemingly inaugurates a new Captain America.
It’s with absolutely no malice that I say Patrick Gorman wasn’t really on anybody’s radar leading up to Avengers: Endgame, which is probably the reason why he was allowed to tease his role on Instagram all the way back in January. Don’t believe us? You can check out the post below.
The selfie of the now instantly-recognizable getup was accompanied by the following caption: “Who am I? Haha! You’ll never guess and I won’t tell! Mysteries are fun!!!#actor #actorslife #followyourheart #hollywoodactor #actors”
Given the secrecy that goes into these big Marvel and Disney productions, and the fact that the future of Chris Evans and Captain America in the MCU was already being questioned, it’s sort of crazy to think that this (HUGE) potential spoiler was allowed up on the web. But even now, Gorman has less than 1000 followers on his page, so perhaps the House of Mouse didn’t see the post as a threat. In fact, they may not have even seen it at all.
But what do you think about Gorman’s place in Avengers: Endgame and what’s to come for Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Was it a good ending for the First Avenger? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below!

New Marvel Theory Suggests Scarlet Witch Will Create The X-Men
With Disney taking over Fox, the time will come soon for the X-Men to be folded into the MCU. The big question is, then, how will Marvel manage this? Mutantkind hasn’t been mentioned in the franchise up until now and the super-powered species is typically depicted as being around for decades, if not centuries. This new fan theory though suggests a way that the X-Men can be introduced without being dropped in out of the blue, and the key is the upcoming Disney Plus TV series WandaVision.
Not much has been announced about the show, starring Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision, but some poster art for WandaVision was unveiled at the Disney Plus launch conference (though not released publicly) which depicted the superhero couple in a 1950s environment, according to Olsen. You could take this to mean something with the flavor of the decade, but what if the pair actually time travel to the 50s in an attempt to live out a normal life?
That’s the possibility that this fan theory, suggested by Reddit user Ak2sup, runs with. The theory speculates that their domestic bless will be shattered when something goes wrong – the specifics are a little sketchy – but the crisis causes Wanda Maximoff to lose control of her powers, unleashing her full reality-warping abilities which we know she has from the comics. The result is the awakening of mutantkind across the globe in the 1950s. As per Avengers: Endgame‘s logic, this would create a new timeline in which the X-Men are around in the present day.
Fans have been anticipating something that borrowed from House of M in the MCU for years and, now that the X-Men are incoming, we wouldn’t be surprised if Kevin Feige and co. decided to dip into the comics storyline soon. Plus, Olsen has teased that WandaVision will pull from various comic book arcs. It might seem odd to have such a key event happen in a TV show rather than a movie, but it does make sense to hinge the introduction of the X-Men on Scarlet Witch, a character so closely connected to them.
What do you think, though, X-Men fans? Could this WandaVision theory be onto something? Join the conversation in the comments section below.
