Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker And Kathy Najimy In Talks To Return For Hocus Pocus 2
The Sanderson sisters may be resurrected yet again for Hocus Pocus 2. A sequel to the much-loved 90s Halloween classic was confirmed to be in the works at the top of this year, and now a new report is pointing to all three of the original’s witch sisters making a comeback in the sequel.
The DisInsider has learned that Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy have had talks to return as Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson in the belated follow-up, which is due to land on Disney Plus. The outlet is unable to say if the trio have actually signed along the dotted line at this time, but sources have informed them that the actresses have been in discussions to reprise their roles via Zoom.
This is welcome news, though not all that surprising. When the project was announced, we were told they would likely all come back. Especially as Midler, Parker and Najimy have said they would be interested in returning to Salem over the years. Most recently, Parker stated in an interview this summer that the stars are very “hospitable” to the idea of hopping aboard their broomsticks a second time.
At this stage, it’s not known if the others stars of the movie could return alongside them. The 1993 film featured Omri Katz, Vinessa Shaw and Thora Birch as the three kids who accidentally bring the Sandersons back to life on Halloween night. Birch, recently seen on The Walking Dead, would be up for an invite to reprise her role, but nothing’s been confirmed as yet.
Hairspray’s Adam Shankman is directing, based on a script from Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics), and while plot details have yet to be revealed, we can probably work out the basics: another virgin teen lights the black candle on the witching hour, thereby resurrecting the sisters again, threatening the children of Salem once more.
Tell us, though, are you excited for more of the Sanderson sisters in Hocus Pocus 2? Cast your thoughts in the comments below.

Ewan McGregor Weighs In On Star Wars Prequels’ Negative Reception
As a prominent face of George Lucas’ ill-fated Star Wars prequels, Ewan McGregor still has something of a point to prove. His return as Obi-Wan Kenobi represents a chance to cement a legacy that isn’t quite secure yet, and it’s also afforded an opportunity for him to re-evaluate the prequels.
In a recent interview with Empire, McGregor reflected on how the films were received at the time, saying:
“Our films weren’t much liked when they came out, by my generation who loved the first ones. I think people of our generation wanted to feel the way they’d felt when they saw those first three movies when they were kids, and George [Lucas] wanted to take our ones in a different direction, he had a different idea. It was tricky at the time, I remember. But now, all these years later, I’m really aware of what our films meant to the generation they were made for, the children of that time. They really like them. I’ve met people who, they mean a lot to them, those films, more so than the original three, and I’m like, ‘Are you kidding?’”
The generation gap McGregor describes is something I can attest to as one of those younger fans growing up with the prequels, as opposed to the original movies. Bizarre as it seemed to adults at the time, the so-called “Star Wars” generation, 90s kids enjoyed them, and for many, that childhood attachment remains strong to this day. Because let’s be clear, no rational adult could watch The Phantom Menace and not melt into the seat in resignation. No rational adult except Roger Ebert at least. 4 freakin’ stars he gave it, out of a total of 4.
Thankfully, however, the untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series (if Disney call it anything other than Kenobi, they’ve gone loopy) can put some of those wrongs right. It’s that rare crowd-pleasing fantasy to have come true, though it’s too bad we’re going to have to wait until 2022 to see it. I mean, we could get through an additional pandemic in that time. Let’s hope we don’t.
If you’ve got any thoughts on McGregor’s prequel comments, or on Obi-Wan, drop them below. In the immediate future there is at least fresh Star Wars material to look forward to. The Mandalorian season 2 is only a few weeks away, after all. That ought to tide us over till the new year, right?

Candyman Pulled From Release Schedule, Delayed Indefinitely Into 2021
After The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It fled to 2021 thanks to the continued effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, the upcoming Candyman reboot became the clear frontrunner in regards to staking a real claim for being the biggest and most popular horror hit of 2020. And it’s not hard to see why.
Indeed, the film boasts a very impressive pedigree, with Academy Award-winning Get Out and Us creator Jordan Peele producing via his Monkeypaw Productions banner as well as co-writing the script. Meanwhile, rising talent and recently-confirmed Captain Marvel 2 director Nia DaCosta is at the helm, and the up-and-coming Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is tackling the lead role. Not to mention a supporting cast that boasts names like Teyonah Parris and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett.
All signs pointed to success for the reboot, then, but it’s now hit a bump in the road, as it’s been pulled from the release schedule and delayed into 2021. Though as of yet, the studio hasn’t announced a new date, leaving its fate in limbo. And what a shame that is.
The news comes via Deadline, who say that the pic “will be going strictly into theaters, not PVOD or a theatrical day-and-date release.” But once again, we don’t know when, exactly, we can expect to see it. Only that it’ll be at some point in 2021. That is, assuming there isn’t a further delay, which at this point, we wouldn’t rule out.
For now, though, we’ll assume that we’ll finally get to lay eyes on Candyman next year, and with any luck, the long, long wait will prove to be worth it in the end.
But tell us, do you have high hopes for the upcoming reboot? Or do you think it’ll be tough to match up to the original? As always, let us know down below.

A Controversial New Movie Has Been Dominating Netflix Today
Up until a few weeks ago, most Netflix subscribers had likely never even heard of Cuties, but thanks to a pretty tasteless poster promoting the new film, the French coming-of-age drama has found itself as one of 2020’s most controversial movies, and the uproar doesn’t seem to be dying down.
It might be a critically acclaimed and award-winning flick, one that marks director Maïmouna Doucouré as a talent to keep an eye on, but thanks to that aforementioned poster, all the buzz surrounding Cuties at the moment is of the negative variety. Indeed, petitions have been launched to have it pulled from the streaming site, while social media campaigns are calling on subscribers to cancel their Netflix accounts.
But they say that there’s no such thing as bad publicity and that’s seemingly true. Though it didn’t make much of an impact when it dropped on the platform earlier this week, in the days since arriving, Cuties has rocketed up the charts, now sitting as the seventh most-watched film on Netflix.
Obviously, a large chunk of the people checking the movie out are doing so out of sheer curiosity or intrigue to see what all the fuss is about, and probably don’t have much genuine interest in watching it. But still, the fact that it’s pulling in so many viewers can only be good news for Doucouré, as it means her film is now being seen by a much wider audience than it otherwise might’ve if there wasn’t so much buzz around it.
Tell us, though, will you be checking out Cuties on Netflix this weekend? Or has all the controversy surrounding it turned you off? Let us know down below.
