Nobody really knows what’s going on with Henry Cavill’s future as part of the DCEU besides the actor himself and the top brass at Warner Bros. Discovery, but that hasn’t stopped voluminous amounts of rumor and speculation from emerging online on what feels like an almost-daily basis.

What we know for sure is that The Witcher alum hasn’t suited up as the franchise’s canonical Kryptonian since Joss Whedon’s Justice League reshoots wrapped in the summer of 2017, meaning he’s been absent for half a decade already. Not only that, but Cavill was first announced as the star of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel way back in January 2011, meaning he’s made a paltry three appearances in close to a dozen years under contract.

Given his career trajectory and left-field choice of roles in the decade and change since the Harry Potter franchise ended, nobody was all that surprised when it was first announced Daniel Radcliffe had been cast as a South African political prisoner in co-writer and director Francis Annan’s true-life prison story Escape from Pretoria.

Nor was it shocking that the actor gave another accomplished performance which showcased his range and depth as a dramatic talent, and he even did a solid job of pulling off an accent that many thespians have resolutely struggled to master over the years. All in all, the riveting jailbreak thriller was a success, as streaming subscribers have been discovering this weekend.

Hollywood history is littered with franchises that overstayed their welcome and wound up becoming pale imitations of what they once were, and as hard as some people might want to deny it, Die Hard is definitely a part of that conversation.

John McTiernan’s original remains arguably the single greatest action movie to ever come out of Hollywood, while the sequel was a solid-if-unspectacular retread that shifted the action to an airport while telling a virtually identical story. Die Hard with a Vengeance freshened things up with a fast-paced buddy caper bolstered by a race-against-time element, but it was the 12-year hiatus after that when the wheels fell off.

Terrible movies need love, too, so fans name their favorite panned pictures

Trash and treasure are often indiscernible from each other when it comes to the movie business, for the sole reason that taste and personal preference are the deciding factors above all else, and they vary on an individual basis. It’s clear that nobody pays much heed to what the critics or even fellow fans have to say about a particular title, because if you love something, then you really love it.

Just because a picture is widely regarded as awful by almost everyone, that doesn’t mean it won’t have an army of supporters armed to the teeth and ready to die on the hill that it’s actually a misunderstood masterpiece.
