Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger has pledged to donate £20,000 to the organisation Chance to Shine during the upcoming fifth Test between England and India at the Oval, which starts on Friday (September 7).
India's first-choice Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has said that he will take atleast four more months to fully recover from the shoulder injury he suffered after the IPL, meaning he is likely to miss the Australia tour, with the Test series starting on December 6. Saha, who underwent a shoulder surgery in England last month, is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

Now the two big brands are making things official, announcing a multi-year global partnership that will see Beats by Dre become the official supplier of headphones, wireless speakers, and other audio gear for the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, and US national basketball team.
NBA superstar LeBron James features prominently in the promo for the NBA x Beats announcement, which makes sense in light of his previous promotional work for Beats and reported minority stake in the company before the Apple acquisition. James, like many of his colleagues in the NBA and fellow athletes in the NFL, has long been a keen user of Beats...

iRobot hasn’t changed the basic formula of its Roomba robot vacuums since the product line was first launched in 2002, but each new generation brings small improvements that make using the bots a little bit easier. The newest Roomba i7+, unveiled today, has two key changes: the robot now remembers your home’s floor plan, and it empties itself.
The auto-emptying feature is probably the most useful. The i7+ doesn’t actually fling dirt into your garbage after each clean; instead, it uses a hopper attached to its charging station as an intermediary. Each time it returns to the base, dirt in the robot is sucked up into the hopper, which stores up to 30 bins.
Other robot vacuum makers have offered this option for years, but it’s good to see...
When Emirates flight EK 203 from Dubai landed in New York with sick people on board on Wednesday morning, public health officials and local authorities were waiting for it. Passengers and crew had fallen ill with coughs, fevers, and stomach problems — and 11 were taken to the hospital. The scare raised some key questions: like, when you’re in a metal tube hurtling through the air, how do you get help if you get sick? And what happens once you land?
The 549 people on flight EK 203 found out on Wednesday, when officials evaluated them and took their temperatures. By early Wednesday afternoon, everyone was allowed to go except for the 11 who went to the hospital, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For now, the...
Every year, the shift into cooler weather comes with a shift into a cooler box-office lineup: fewer billion-dollar blockbusters, fewer onscreen explosions, and a general trend toward less slashing, crashing action and more intense emotional action. The one thing that really heats up at the box office during the fall and winter season is the awards race: the last quarter of the year is a time for Oscar-bait projects and intense awards campaigning. We started The Verge’s four-part fall movie preview yesterday with a September 2018 roundup, looking at films from Shane Black’s franchise revival The Predator to the social-media horror-comedy cautionary tale Assassination Nation. Here, we continue with October, which starts prestige season in...
HTC and Valve have opened the Vive virtual reality headset’s digital store to its biggest competitor. That means Oculus Rift users who play games on the Facebook-owned headset can now start buying and downloading games and apps from HTC’s Viveport store.
Oculus Rift users might already have options like Steam and Oculus’ own store to shop from, but at least the new compatibility gives users more options to surf through and places to do comparison shopping. Still, most of the titles carried in Viveport aren’t compatible with Oculus Rift headsets. Out of 1,400 titles, only around 200 are confirmed to be compatible with Oculus headsets.
There’s also a subscription service component to Viveport, which HTC launched last year, that gives...
IMAX announced today that it’s launching a new certification program called IMAX Enhanced that it’s developed along with audio and surround sound specialist DTS. The idea is that qualifying televisions, projectors, A/V receivers, sound systems, and other home theater equipment should provide the best 4K / HDR images and sound quality, in IMAX’s opinion.
The company doesn’t get specific about what qualifiers it considers before certifying a device, but it did say that they “meet a carefully prescribed set of the highest audio and video performance standards, set by a certification committee of IMAX and DTS engineers and Hollywood’s leading technical specialists.”
The program will launch this fall with its initial partners — Sony, Denon,...
Facebook and Twitter made a hotly anticipated appearance on Capitol Hill today, as top executives sat for a day’s worth of questions from lawmakers related to election interference, political bias, and more.
In the day’s first hearing, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey shared the dais with Facebook’s chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, for questions related to how the companies are protecting their platforms from abuse. (Google declined to send its CEO, and was represented by an empty chair.)
In the day’s second hearing, Dorsey alone faced more four hours of questions from members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Members of Congress asked mostly well informed questions about a wide range of subjects, and the tone was generally...
Drone racing has only been a human sport for a few years, but artificial intelligence is already gunning to take over. Today, the Drone Racing League (DRL), which is one of the foremost organizations trying to turn drone racing into the next NASCAR, announced a new competition for teams to develop AI pilots for its aircraft.
With backing from aerospace firm Lockheed Martin, DRL wants to recruit developers from around the world, including students and drone enthusiasts. They’ll have to create an AI that’s capable of flying one of DRL’s standardized quadcopters through its complex race courses without preprogramming or human supervision. Teams will then compete in the DRL’s upcoming 2019 season by racing against one another in the same...
Firefox’s latest update for desktop is here, and there’s a new automatic dark theme on macOS, a small prompt to reflect recent personal data privacy concerns, and variable fonts. Today’s updates lay “the groundwork for future releases that will help people feel safe online,” a spokesperson told The Verge. Firefox first announced last week that its browser would soon be blocking third-party ad trackers and strip cookies from site content by default, and it looks like it’s starting that process on mobile.
When you disconnect from the desktop version of Sync, which lets you sync bookmarks, tabs, and passwords across devices, Firefox will now ask if you want to wipe your Firefox profile, which contains passwords, history, cookies, and site...
Sweden is rightly famous for many things — its natural beauty, its health care, its wealth, Ikea — but one of the country’s most public achievements, its Twitter, doesn’t always come up in those conversations. Since 2011, the Swedish Institute has handed over the keys to the country’s official Twitter account to a new Swede every week, letting them tweet anything they want. The goal was to show the country as it really existed through the eyes of its various citizens.
“Through the stories of the various curators, not one Sweden is conveyed, but several,” the government wrote on its official project website. “In an age of mass communication and increasing globalisation, a country depends largely on how it is perceived abroad,” it...

Two away series played and two series defeats. While India have failed in their quest to win landmark series away from home in South Africa and in England in 2018, they have improved significantly over the course of the seven Tests.
Colin Munro's 56-ball 90 helped Trinbago Knight Riders to a thumping 67-run win over Guyana Amazon Warriors in their CPL 2018 clash at Queen’s Park Oval.
Former West Indies captain Brian Lara has picked India skipper Virat Kohli and England Test captain Joe Root as the best batsmen in the world.

Ravindra Jadeja is often seen as an automatic choice in the playing XI in Test matches in India but he is often overlooked in overseas conditions with Ravichandran Ashwin getting the nod as the first choice spinner and the think-tank trusting Hardik Pandya to fulfill the role of the all-rounder.
This Indian side has shown a tendency to offer bravado in the face of deficiency, but this issue won’t go away without some serious soul searching and hard work in the nets.
On 6th September 2016, Glenn Maxwell’s blitzkrieg powered Australia to 263 for 3 in 20 overs against Sri Lanka at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium – the highest total in a T20 International. The Australian batsman hit a belligerent 145 from just 65 balls, laced with 14 hits to the fence and nine over them.
Whatever combination India go with, it’s worth remembering India have another proven Test bowler in their squad, who could do with a bit more faith in these conditions.

Despite the visitors’ poor record at the venue, Indian players have produced some notable performances over the years. CricketNext looks back at some of the best.
The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has handed a two-year suspension to original IPL petitioner Aditya Verma's son Lakhan Raja for alleged participation in an unsanctioned tournament as well as a corporate tournament, without prior approval
Ashish Nehra has previously played in all formats of the game and had been a part of the Indian team in two largely successful Cricket World Cups, two Asia Cups, and three ICC Champions Trophy tournaments.
Here we take a look at the five best moments of his career.
In a video posted on the Facebook page of Lord's Cricket Ground, Cook name England legend Gooch as his captain and went on to name a host of decorated cricketers in his lineup. However, there was one oddity in his Dream XI - not a single Indian player made it to his side. With the final draft presumedly in hand, and Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) on board, Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) is slowly beginning to piece together the remainder of his cast for Dune.
According to Deadline, Mission: Impossible – Fallout star Rebecca Ferguson has entered negotiations to join the French-Canadian filmmaker’s adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel of the same name and will portray Lady Jessica, mother to Chalamet’s Paul Atreides.
Ferguson – who’s stratospherically risen since The Greatest Showman – recently landed a role in the presently untitled Men in Black spinoff, directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton), and will portray Rose the Hat in the long-gestating sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, directed by Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game).
As for Dune, it’s been relatively quiet on the desert planet of Arrakis for over a month now. In the midst of summer, though – as mentioned above – the project took a giant leap forward when Legendary Entertainment announced Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet was being targeted for the lead role.
Unfortunately, confirmation of Chalamet’s casting has remained elusive. That said, at the beginning of last month, Brian Herbert, son of the aforementioned Frank and New York Times bestselling author in his own right, revealed he’d just received the fourth draft of the Dune screenplay from the studio.
Additionally, B. Herbert also announced that the script “is for the first movie” – confirming it’ll be split in two – and “cover approximately half of the novel.” Granted, it wasn’t the first time we heard Legendary was planning a two-parter. Half a year ago, Villeneuve corroborated as much at the Rendez-Vous du Cinema Quebecois movie festival.
As for this latest casting coup, it seems to signal that things on Dune are heating up now and as soon as we hear more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
