‘Wanted’ director developing new Stan Lee cinematic universe

When you hear the words ‘Stan Lee’ and ‘cinematic universe’ in the same sentence, your mind is instantly going to wander over to Kevin Feige’s series of Marvel Comics adaptations, which is fair enough when the MCU is the highest-grossing franchise in the history of cinema.

However, Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov is now developing an entirely new interconnected mythology based on the legendary creator’s latter works, with Sawbones and Carnival of Killers now in development for live-action in conjunction with Lee’s POW! Entertainment.

An unexpected director wants to tackle a ‘Fast & Furious’ movie

Justin Lin will be sticking around to helm the tenth and eleventh installments in the Fast & Furious franchise, which are poised to shoot back-to-back and draw the increasingly ludicrous story of Dominic Toretto and his extended family to a close after two decades of high-octane adventures.

That gives Lin the distinction of directing seven entries in The Fast Saga, with Rob Cohen, John Singleton, James Wan and F. Gary Gray taking the reins on one apiece. However, the end of the line for Dom and the crew doesn’t mean that the franchise is over by any stretch.

Joe Manganiello isn’t confident that Deathstroke will return to the DCEU

Is Joe Manganiello the unluckiest person to have ever signed a contract to appear in the DCEU? Looking at the facts, it’s hard to say otherwise.

At one stage, the actor’s Deathstroke was poised to have a massive impact on the superhero series, but circumstances outside of his control kept thwarting him at every turn. Slade Wilson’s Justice League post-credits debut was supposed to see him play a major role in Zack Snyder’s sequels, while he was also set for a solo movie to be directed by The Raid‘s Gareth Evans, on top of playing the villain in Ben Affleck’s The Batman, and he was even part of early concept art for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

Gillian Anderson joins Christian Bale in Netflix’s Edgar Allen Poe movie

Having dropped $55 million just to secure the rights to the movie, Netflix evidently have high hopes for Scott Cooper’s The Pale Blue Eye, which marks the Into the Furnace and Hostiles director’s third collaboration with Christian Bale.

Based on the novel of the same name by Louis Baynard, Bale stars as a veteran detective investigating a string of murders at West Point Academy in 1830, where he’s partnered up with a rookie cadet and aspiring poet named Edgar Allen Poe, who’ll be played by Harry Potter, The Old Guard and The Queens Gambit‘s Harry Melling.

‘Batgirl’ set photo reveals Gotham City Police Department uniform

Ever since the major pieces started falling into place for HBO Max’s Batgirl, we’d been operating under the impression that the streaming service’s first in-house DCEU blockbuster would begin shooting before the end of 2021, even as we got closer and closer to the final month of the year.

As if right on cue, co-director Adil El Arbi confirmed less than 48 hours ago that he was on set for the first day of production, and we know that star Leslie Grace will be in fighting shape after the actress has spent the last few months constantly keeping her fans updated on her training via social media.

Johnny Depp’s ‘Minamata’ finally gets a release date

Despite winning praise for featuring one of Johnny Depp’s best performances in years, biographical drama Minamata has proven to be a point of contention between director Andrew Levitas and studio MGM.

Production initially wrapped in early 2019, and then the movie screened for the first time in February 2020, but it didn’t receive a theatrical release in many international markets until this past August. Levitas blasted MGM for effectively burying the film due to the controversy swirling around Depp’s personal life, accusing them of sweeping his passion project under the rug.

‘Shang-Chi’ star joins Nicolas Cage’s Dracula in ‘Renfield’

Up until the other day, Universal’s dark horror comedy Renfield probably wasn’t even on a lot of people’s radars, but that’s obviously going to change in a major way when you pull off what could turn out to be the casting masterstroke of the century by hiring Nicolas Cage to play Dracula.

From the second the news was announced, the internet went wild at the prospect of seeing the actor dial things way past eleven to play the most iconic vampire in history, but let’s not forget that Nicholas Hoult is technically the lead given that he’s bringing the title character to life.

A gripping sports drama is a slam dunk on Netflix

Ben Affleck may have two Academy Awards and three Golden Globes in his trophy cabinet for his efforts as a writer, director and producer, but he’s spent the better part of 25 years having his acting ability called into question.

If you were to ask most people to pick a side between Hollywood’s best friends from Boston, then a lot of them would agree that Matt Damon is arguably the more talented when it comes to acting, but Affleck remains a bigger star that’s achieved much more on the other side of the camera.

‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ star wants it out before June 2023

Director David F. Sandberg won’t be anything less than completely prepared for the release of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, with production on the DCEU sequel having wrapped at the end of August, even though the movie isn’t coming to theaters until June 2023.

The expectations surrounding the sequel are much greater after the first installment scored the second-highest Rotten Tomatoes score in franchise history behind Wonder Woman, while it’s estimated to be the most profitable entry in the series to boot after earning $366 million at the box office on a budget of under $100 million.

New ‘Doctor Strange 2’ merch has fans thinking Wanda is the villain

Ever since it was first confirmed that Disney Plus series WandaVision would tie directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we’ve been inundated with rumors and theories that Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch would ultimately be revealed as the villain of the Sorcerer Supreme’s sequel.

It does make a great deal of sense, with WandaVision‘s post-credits scene finding the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most powerful character mastering the Darkhold, where she hears her children calling out to her from a reality in which they exist. Throw that onto Olsen’s admission that Wanda can travel through alternate realities at will, and she could be set to wreak some serious havoc.
