Robocop Returns Back On Track With New Director
In further proof that no franchise can ever truly be left alone these days, it looks as though Robocop Returns is back on track. Neill Blomkamp spent years developing a follow-up that was set to act as a direct sequel to Paul Verhoeven’s classic 1987 original, and constantly kept the fans up-to-date with news about the project.
However, much like his proposed Alien sequel, the District 9 and Elysium director ultimately departed Robocop Returns, sending it right back to development hell. It seemed that it would become another one of those reboots that was constantly spoken about without ever getting close to going in front of cameras, but now news has broken that Little Monsters director Abe Forsythe has been hired as Blomkamp’s replacement.
On paper, this seems like a strange hire. After all, Forsythe’s last movie was a critically-acclaimed zombie rom-com led by Lupita Nyong’o, which is a far cry from the established social commentary/sci-fi aesthetic found in both the original Robocop and Neill Blomkamp’s entire filmography.
Forsythe will also rewrite the script, the most recent draft of which was penned by Terminator: Dark Fate co-scribe Justin Rhodes, based on an idea by Robocop creators Ed Neumier and Michael Miner, who are still attached to the pic as producers. The presence of Rhodes may be the cause for some concern though, as even the involvement of James Cameron couldn’t save Dark Fate from being an utter disappointment on multiple levels.
Hopefully, the latest iteration of Robocop will avoid the pitfalls set by the sixth Terminator flick and deliver a long-delayed sequel to a classic 1980s sci-fi that actually turns out to be worth the wait for a change.

Steam now lets you invite iOS and Android devices to join PC multiplayer games remotely
Last month, Valve announced a beta of Steam Remote Play Together, which let you play local multiplayer games over the internet with your friends across Windows, Linux, and macOS computers. Today, Remote Play Together is officially available for everyone, with a what could be a really cool new feature — you can play with your friends using iOS and Android devices as well.
According to Valve, the host player just needs to install and start the game, and friends on PC can join in via Steam Remote Play or on mobile with the Steam Chat and Steam Link apps. Only the host needs to actually own the game, which is nice.
We haven’t been able to test Remote Play Together ourselves with iOS and Android clients yet, so we don’t know if network...

Trump is lying about the ‘new’ ‘Apple’ factory
In advance of Trump’s factory tour today, I took a look at the strange relationship that’s developed between Tim Cook and Donald Trump over the past three years. One of the things that popped up was one specific story that Trump would tell about Apple, in rally after rally and meeting after meeting. The idea was that Trump had somehow induced the company to build a new factory in the US, through some combination of tax cuts and trade policy, which was both very politically useful and also very much not true.
Today, perhaps not surprisingly, he told the lie again.
“We’re seeing the beginning of a very powerful and important plant,” Trump said at the factory. “Anybody that followed my campaign, I would always talk about Apple, that I want...

Mercedes-Benz’s electric SUV will start at $67,900
Mercedes-Benz has finally announced a starting price for its first long-range electric vehicle, the EQC SUV: $67,900. The new SUV, which was announced more than a year ago, arrives in the United States in early 2020.
That price, announced at the 2019 LA Auto Show, puts the base model EQC in a competitive spot as far as the cost of premium electric SUVs is concerned. The Jaguar I-Pace starts at $69,500, while the Audi E-Tron’s price floor is $74,800. The Tesla Model X starts at $84,990.
There are more affordable electric SUVs on the market, though they don’t offer the same kind of luxury experience. Kia’s Niro EV starts at $38,500, while sister company Hyundai’s Kona EV starts at $36,950. The slightly-refreshed Chevy Bolt starts at...

Joe Russo Says A Keanu Reeves Superhero Movie Is In Development
Everyone and their brother has been wanting a piece of Keanu Reeves recently – from the folks at Bikini Bottom and those behind the video game and film industries all the way to the herald canon of comic book cinema. After reports came to the surface earlier this year saying that Marvel has been trying to get The Matrix star attached to pretty much anything, superhero fans around the world have been craving a Keanu-led comic book film.
Well now, one expert of the genre – none other than Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame co-director Joe Russo – is officially slated to work with Reeves.
Along with his brother Anthony, the Russo’s have been trying to get their production company, ABGO, up and running. Currently on the cusp of releasing 21 Bridges this weekend, which stars Black Panther‘s Chadwick Boseman, they’re also working on 2020’s Tom Holland-led film Cherry, as well as the aforementioned Reeves picture.
While promoting 21 Bridges during its recent press junket, Joe went ahead and provided a very tiny update on the latter, which is entitled Past Midnight, telling Inverse that it is still “in a very formative stage,” though he assured fans that it has a “fascinating script.”
Well, from the looks of it, we’ll have to wait quite a long time before we get any official updates on Past Midnight. And an especially long time before we can see a Keanu superhero in action.
But nevertheless, you’ll still have the opportunity to witness Keanu Reeves on the big screen next year with the highly-anticipated sequel Bill & Ted Face the Music, as well as The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. Of course, if those don’t strike your fancy, there’s always the new Matrix and John Wick films to consider.

Facebook and Google surveillance is an ‘assault on privacy,’ says Amnesty International
Facebook and Google’s persistent surveillance of billions of people around the world threatens human rights and free expression, says Amnesty International. In a new report, the NGO argues the companies need to change their business model and stop being reliant on people’s data.
The internet is a necessary part of daily life for people all over the world. The “Big Five” tech companies — Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Facebook — dominate almost all online services. Facebook and Google are particularly powerful when it comes to speech and free expression — two fundamental rights that Amnesty International says are under assault.
