Star Wars Episode 1: Racer zooms onto Switch and PS4
Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, the unwieldily titled podracing video game that was maybe the second best thing to come out of the prequel trilogy after “Duel of the Fates,” has been released for the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. The game was initially supposed to come out in May, but the release got pushed back indefinitely. Now it’s here for $14.99.
Episode 1: Racer is still a great futuristic racing game, which is as surprising now as it was back then. Most Star Wars games around the turn of the millennium were awkward attempts to shoehorn the license into various genres, usually without much success. Racer, however, benefited from more appropriate source material: a movie scene that felt like it only ever existed to sell a...

Thor: Love And Thunder Theory Says Jane Will Become A Valkyrie
Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, was first introduced to the MCU as Thor’s love interest. Initially, she just stumbled into the world of Norse gods before then playing a more active role in Thor: The Dark World, discovering the Convergence of the Nine Realms. In the sequel, Foster comes into contact with Aether, which slowly starts to infest her body and almost kills her. She survives the ordeal and even gets to visit Asgard with Thor, but that was thought to be the end of her story, as Portman left the MCU.
She was reportedly unhappy with Marvel’s creative approach and how they treated Patty Jenkins, who was supposed to direct Thor: The Dark World. But after Marvel Studios’ course correction and corporate restructuring in 2015, they seemed to have patched things up with Portman because she’s back. Additionally, with the franchise being reinvigorated under Taiki Waiti’s direction, the character of Foster is also undergoing an evolution. She won’t just be a romantic cliché in Thor: Love and Thunder, she’ll be wielding Mjolnir herself. Which apparently came as a surprise to the actress as well.
But whether Foster will be the Mighty Thor for multiple films before joining the Avengers or walk a totally different path is still unknown. One theory, however, suggests that this could be a transitory phase, leading to her becoming a Valkyrie.
The comic books have put Foster through a similar transformative journey. When Thor believes himself to be unworthy, Foster wields Mjolnir, becoming the new Goddess of Thunder. But there’s a catch, as she’s suffering from cancer and undergoing chemotherapy. Every time she transforms into the Mjolnir-wielding superheroine, though, the effects of her treatment get negated. But she understands the importance of Thor’s role in defense of the Nine Realms and continues using the enchanted hammer and this sacrifice deems her worthy enough to lift the weapon.
In the heart-wrenching conclusion, Foster transforms one last time to go up against the beastly Mangog. But the battle costs her both Mjolnir and her life. Give that this is Marvel Comics we’re talking about, though, characters don’t always die for good. Odin is moved by her heroism and manages to resurrect her and Foster resumes her life as a human and continues to undergo treatment. It’s unlikely that Waititi will use the same plot device, but the story might follow a similar pattern, with Portman’s role changing from Mighty Thor to Valkyrie.
The evolution of Foster’s story is part of the ongoing comic book series Valkyrie: Jane Foster, which explores her role as the new Valkyrie after the original battalion is slaughtered in the War of the Realms event. Some threads from the movie and comics are already running in parallel, too. Except for Tessa Thompson’s character, all the Valkyries have been wiped out by Hela, as we saw in Thor: Ragnarok. So, the MCU could very well introduce a new squad of Valkyries starting with Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Justice League Snyder Cut Release Date Window Revealed
Just over a month ago, after a prolonged and passionate campaign from fans, Zack Snyder confirmed that his cut of Justice League had been greenlit by Warner Bros. The news left diehards cartwheeling, skeptics shrugging and film stars grousing about having to do reshoots for a 3 year old movie.
In the initial announcement, we learned it would be arriving on HBO Max sometime in 2021. Today, that window has been narrowed a bit and it’s good news for fans. And that’s because Warner Bros. are reportedly looking at debuting the Snyder Cut in the early part of the year.
With financial backing estimated at over $20 million, this is set to be a blockbuster recut in more ways than one. That’s an unprecedented outlay for this kind of project, but one that I’m certain they’ll recoup. The hype that the whole endeavor is already producing has been immense, after all.
Last week, that hype was stoked even further when we got our first sneak peek, and by sneak peek I mean the sneakiest of peeks. There were two shots – Gal Gadot looking fearfully at an ominous mosaic and Darkseid in all his CG-caked glory. I’m sure the more learned among you will be able to read more into it, though.
Quite the summer it’s been at DC Towers. Snyder Cuts here, potentially thrilling revisitations there, (come to think of it, more than one). The only downer has been Wonder Woman 1984’s increasingly forlorn release, having been moved from June to August, to what one hopes is its final starting position in October.
Anyway, this isn’t the place for downers. Uppers, that’s what we’re after – and I’m not talking about speed. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is arriving in the early part of next year, that ought to be all the buzz you need.

Ryan Reynolds Reportedly In Talks For Justice League Snyder Cut Cameo
2020 has sure thrown some curveballs our way and this would be right up there.
Ryan Reynolds is reportedly in talks to make a cameo in the Snyder Cut of Justice League. And the cameo would see him reprise his role as Green Lantern, a part he hasn’t played since 2011’s poorly received film of the same name. At least, that’s according to insider Grace Randolph, who shared the following on Twitter today:
Now that I’ve heard it from a second source it seems word is indeed getting out
and so I can confirm the #SnyderCut cameo I’ve been teasing is indeed Ryan Reynolds for #GreenLantern!!
I’m hearing WB is working on putting the deal together now to make it official!#DC #DCEU pic.twitter.com/CpaMSD99Im
— Grace Randolph (@GraceRandolph) June 23, 2020
With the news that Warner Bros. are also talking to Michael Keaton about his Batman potentially returning for the DCEU, it looks like the studio have chosen to vigorously purse callbacks – and with good reason. Mining the past for nostalgia generally plays well with fans and in the case of Keaton as Batman, it could actually make storytelling sense, too.
With regards to Green Lantern, enough time has passed for the film to be viewed with good-natured embarrassment for all involved – a perception helped greatly by Reynolds’ continued lampooning of it (see: the end of Deadpool 2). On the back of the DCEU’s recent successes, and the actor’s Marvel-propelled superstardom, it looks like the right moment to step back into those blue-green CG shoes.
Alternately, the cameo could be self-indulgent, and depending on how it were played, it may wind up those who want the Snyder Cut to be a serious piece of work. Will they bring a bit of Deadpool into it, sticking to the lighter tone of Whedon’s cut? Or will it be more in-keeping with Snyder’s moodier proclivities? First we’ll have to find out whether Warner Bros. wrap up a deal (it’s not set in stone yet) to get Reynolds on board. We wait with bated breath.
Tell us, though, are you down for Reynolds’ Green Lantern returning in the Snyder Cut of Justice League? Give us your thoughts below.
