Joe Manganiello’s New Superhero Movie Is Coming To Streaming

Joe Manganiello might be the unluckiest man in modern superhero cinema. The actor was initially pegged to play a major role as Deathstroke in Zack Snyder’s Justice League sequels, and was also getting a solo movie with The Raid‘s Gareth Evans at the helm.

On top of that, he was locked as the antagonist of Ben Affleck’s version of The Batman, with Slade Wilson set to tear Bruce Wayne’s life apart from the inside out, while he’d even cleared room in his schedule after being told he was part of the early drafts of what eventually became James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

Instead, Manganiello’s entire DCEU history stretches to a post-credits appearance in each cut of Justice League, and a supporting part in the epilogue of HBO Max’s four hour epic, which has to be a kick in the teeth for someone that’s clearly still holding out the hope of getting something substantial to do as the fan favorite assassin.

Archenemy

Joe Manganiello did headline his own superhero movie last year, but Archenemy only scored a limited theatrical release and brought in just $136,000 at the box office. However, the dark and twisted psychological tale is coming to AMC+ next month, where it deserves to find a much bigger audience given that it puts an intriguingly unique spin on the superhero genre.

The 44 year-old plays Max Fist, a homeless drug addict who claims that he’s an all-powerful being from another dimension that became trapped on Earth, where he befriends a troubled youngster as they team up to eradicate a crime boss and local drug gang that have put them both in danger. Is he really a superhero, or is he just a deranged and violent lunatic? It’s an interesting hook, and subscribers will be able to find out the answer next week when Archenemy comes to AMC’s in-house platform.

3 More Animated Mortal Kombat Movies Reportedly In Development

We’re still waiting on the official confirmation that a sequel to Simon McQuoid’s Mortal Kombat is definitely happening, although the signs are encouraging, fans of the franchise looking for their next fix of fantasy martial arts action don’t have to wait too long, with animated Scorpion’s Revenge sequel Battle of the Realms releasing at the end of August.

Ever since the recent live-action effort hit big at the box office and drew huge praise from audiences, many of whom instantly labeled it as the best video game adaptation ever made, the rumor mill been sent into overdrive about where Warner Bros.’ nascent series goes from here. There’s been all sorts of talk regarding prequels, spinoffs and tie-ins, with insider Daniel Richtman the latest to throw in his two cents by offering that there are three more animated Mortal Kombat movies in the works.

That’s all he has to say on the matter, though, so it isn’t quite clear if he’s referring to the canon comprising of Scorpion’s Revenge and Battle of the Realms, the effort he previously claimed was in the works and would tie in with the live-action reboot or something else entirely, which has also seen Richtman tout a potential Netflix animated series as well.

Either way, as the extensive DC Animated Universe back catalogue has shown, WB aren’t exactly averse to continually mining their biggest brands for new feature length content, so whether it’s connected to Mortal Kombat‘s hugely popular live-action return or not, it feels likely that we’ll be getting plenty more animated adventures to come, provided that Battle of the Realms proves to be as popular as its immediate predecessor.

John Cena Reportedly Wants To Star In An Original Film With Dwayne Johnson

Dave Bautista wants no part of Hollywood’s WWE reunion, having knocked back the opportunity to talk to Universal about a role in the Fast & Furious franchise before making it perfectly clear that he’s got zero interest whatsoever in sharing the screen with his former in-ring adversaries, but John Cena is much more open to the idea.

Having faced off in the squared circle and headlined two consecutive WrestleMania events, Cena and Dwayne Johnson are now both firmly embedded in The Fast Saga. The former’s Jakob Toretto is widely expected to return for the concluding tenth and eleventh blockbusters in the main story, while fans are holding out hope that Johnson will end his self-imposed exile now that his differences with Vin Diesel and Tyrese appear to have been resolved, with the two having already been linked with facing off in the eventual Hobbs & Shaw sequel.

However, insider Daniel Richtman has instead offered that Cena wants to star in an original film opposite his old rival, but the tipster doesn’t divulge what this project could potentially be, what sort of genre it occupies or even if Johnson reciprocates the interest in collaborating outside the Fast & Furious universe, so the statement is as broad as it is vague, and as such shouldn’t be taken at face value quite yet.

John Cena and Dwayne Johnson are huge jacked dudes with plenty of experience in WWE, Fast & Furious, action blockbusters in general, DC Comics adaptations and terrible family comedies, so the similarities are there for all to see. With Fast 10 and 11 set to kick off production early next year, though, that would be the most likely destination for their first onscreen partnership, but we’ll see what happens after that.

Fast & Furious Star Says Fans Should Campaign For Gal Gadot’s Return

The #JusticeForHan movement has finally been vindicated, with Sung Kang making his return to the Fast & Furious franchise in the ninth installment, and his comeback was handled in surprisingly strong fashion for a series that brought Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty back from the dead with the old amnesia subplot.

It turns out that Han never really died at all, and it was all an elaborate plan concocted by Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody, who had previously worked with Gal Gadot’s Gisele. Deciding that if she could trust Han then he could as well, the scheme to fake his demise was put into motion, with Han tasked to protect Anna Sawai’s Elle from being captured or killed.

Gadot returns for flashbacks using footage from previous movies, but it would come dangerously close to jumping the shark if Gisele was also suddenly revealed to have survived her own certain doom. That hasn’t stopped rumors from claiming it’ll happen, though, even if the Wonder Woman star admitted that all of the talk was news to her.

However, having witnessed the power of the fanbase first hand, Sung Kang encouraged Fast & Furious supporters to launch an online campaign to see if they could convince the powers that be to have Gisele return for one of the final two films in the saga.

“Well, hey, anything is possible. If you guys start a hashtag #BringBackGisele, it’s very possible.”

Scheduling is obviously going to be an issue even if Gisele was written into one of the concluding Fast & Furious scripts, with Gadot boasting a packed schedule that sees Wonder Woman 3, espionage thriller Heart of Stone, sci-fi romance Meet Me in Another Life, historical drama Irina Sendler, Apple TV+’s Hedy Lamarr miniseries and a Cleopatra epic with Patty Jenkins all potentially on the docket.
