Also, in all likelihood, the board is likely to conduct a full auction before the next year's tournament gets underway.Never short on fresh content, Netflix regularly release original films either co-produced or fully made by themselves, and 2021 isn’t looking any different. We’re already getting a fairly good idea of what’s on the streamer’s list for next year, which will see the company reportedly commit to a new movie every few weeks, and at least six animated titles. What, then, can we look forward to from Netflix in 2021?
Well, highlights include the animated comedy America: The Motion Picture, which focuses on George Washington, and Richard Linklater’s 1969-set Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Adventure. Elsewhere, Zack Snyder, who also has his cut of Justice League coming to HBO Max, is helming Army of the Dead for streaming, while Andrew Dominik is working on Blonde, a Marilyn Monroe biopic with Ana de Armas. Another big name project, Bruised, comes from Halle Berry, who directs and stars as an MMA fighter.
For younger viewers, we have the likes of Chicken Run 2, an adaptation of the Fear Street books, animation My Father’s Dragon, Nickelodeon’s The Loud House and The Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as Trollhouse: Rise of the Titans. In addition, Guillermo del Toro will deliver his take on Pinocchio, created using stop-motion animation.
Other pictures that look like they’ll be worth your time include thriller Born to be Murdered, the Idris Elba-starring festival hit Concrete Cowboy, Diana: A New Musical, and the big budget Don’t Look Up, a new Adam McKay production that boasts talent such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, and many other familiar faces.

TikTok has filed a petition in a US Court of Appeals calling for a review of actions by the Trump administration’s Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFUIS). The reason, according for the company, is that it hasn’t heard from the committee in weeks about an imminent deadline for parent company ByteDance to sell off US assets over national security concerns.

It’s Mads Mikkelsen, the Danish actor most known as the titular cannibal in NBC’s Hannibal. Production on the prequel threequel has been underway in the UK since September, with Depp having already completed one scene. This is enough to kick his pay-or-play contract into action, so it’s believed the actor will still receive his full 8-figure sum for the movie despite being let go. Assuming the deal is closed and he officially signs out, Mikkelsen won’t have to redo too much material, so filming shouldn’t be held up too much by the switchover.
Nonetheless, Fantastic Beasts 3 has been pushed back from November next year to July 2022. That’ll be nearly four years since the previous film, so maybe that’ll help audiences swallow Grindelwald’s facelift. Let us know your thoughts on Mikkelsen’s casting in the comments.
Dwayne Johnson is easily the world’s highest-paid actor at this point, but he’s been raking in massive paydays almost since the very start of his movie career. For instance, despite only having a minor supporting role in the project, Johnson was paid $5 million for signing on to The Mummy Returns, which is a massive fee for a first time actor.
Of course, that appearance led to his own spinoff in the form of The Scorpion King, where he once again pulled in some serious cash after picking up a check for $5.5 million. The movie itself wasn’t anything particularly special, offering up enjoyable but unremarkable B-level action fare. Still, it did decent enough business at the box office after scoring almost $180 million on a $60 million budget. And now, it seems Universal is keen to hit the reboot button on the property.
The Scorpion King franchise has continued for years now, of course, although you’d be forgiven for never having heard of the four bargain basement sequels that released between 2008 and 2018. And from what Deadline is reporting, this new take is going to be a lot more high profile.
The outlet writes that Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions will relaunch the franchise, with Jonathan Herman on board to pen the script. And while they do note that The Rock’s incredibly busy schedule may make it tough for him to appear in front of the camera, it’s an important project for him and as such, Deadline believes there’s a good chance he’ll be able to find some time to take on a role.
Plot details, meanwhile, are non-existent, but we know that it’ll be a “be a contemporary take set in modern times.” Aside from that, though, we can only speculate as to what The Rock might be cooking up for us here. But regardless of what it turns out to be, with Johnson heavily involved, we’re certainly excited for this new take on The Scorpion King.

It’ll take a brave actor to step into the role of Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3, with the third outing of the Harry Potter prequel series already facing an uphill battle if its to win over fans, and that’s without even considering all of the behind the scenes problems.
True, the franchise got off to a promising start with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but follow-up The Crimes of Grindelwald brought in over $150 million less at the box office than the first film and went on to become the lowest-grossing installment in the Wizarding World. Not to mention it was also the first to land a Rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The pressure’s on, then, for Fantastic Beasts 3 to succeed, but just last week it hit a major stumbling block when Johnny Depp was dropped from the role of Gellert Grindelwald following the verdict of his latest legal battle being announced. Warner Bros. is wasting no time in finding a replacement, though, and according to Deadline, they may’ve now found one.
According to the outlet, Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen is the studio’s number one choice to step in for Depp and director David Yates is said to be a big fan. Talks are now underway and while nothing is official just yet, it certainly seems like this is going to happen.
That being said, we imagine there are other names on WB’s list as well, but whether it’s Mikkelsen or someone else, studio execs will surely have an army of angry Johnny Depp fans to contend with. Indeed, many have already threatened to boycott Fantastic Beasts 3 and though Mikkelsen is a fine actor and would be an excellent choice for the role, a lot of people will have a hard time accepting anyone other than Depp in the part.
