Allison Janney opens up on becoming an unlikely action hero in Netflix thriller ‘Lou’

When asked to picture an action film star, some folks may raise an eyebrow if you were to ever suggest an actress over 60 years of age. By immediately following up with the stipulation that said actress is specifically Academy Award winner Allison Janney, however, you’re sure to be met with nods of understanding and agreement; Janney is, after all, a goddess among humans whose malleable range is finally setting her in the aforementioned role.

Indeed, Janney is set to play the titular role in Netflix’s upcoming action flick Lou, which follows Janney’s rugged, mysterious homebody on a harrowing quest to rescue her neighbor’s daughter from a kidnapper. Aided by said neighbor (Jurnee Smollett) as a vicious storm rages on, the two women race against time while each of their dark pasts comes to light in their pursuit of the young girl.

A half-cocked romantic comedy plants its seed on streaming

One of the most difficult challenges in creating a memorable, overachieving rom-com is to sell the audience on a story that not only makes sense but gives eagle-eyed viewers a reason to smile. And while some films within the genre’s scope have attained their immovable status as cult classics, other lackluster films under the aforementioned banner have succeeded only in falling flat — and 2010’s The Switch certainly comes to mind.

Directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon, The Switch notably attached a certain level of high hopes, considering a handful of prolific Hollywood stars were leading the cast — including Friends star Jennifer Aniston and comedy bigwig Jason Bateman. And if those two glaring names weren’t enough to attract a broader audience, then the likes of Patrick Wilson, Juliette Lewis, and Jeff Goldblum should have been enough to draw significant praise.

Pete Davidson has been known for his very “laid back” fashion sense, but the actor took it one step further when turning up to his own movie premiere for Meet Cute – in a hoodie. The SNL star rocked up to the premiere in a white sweater, with the hood up, dark glasses, and green slacks, much to the bemusement of his co-star Kaley Cuoco.

The Big Bang Theory actress couldn’t help but poke fun at him mid-interview once she saw him arrive on the scene. Whilst talking to ET, the star turned to see Davidson arrive, and took in his outfit before sarcastically stating, “I’m glad Pete dressed up for the occasion,” continuing, “that is so bad.”
