Zipline’s drones are delivering medical supplies and personal protective equipment to a Novant Health Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, the two companies announced today. Importantly, considering the COVID-19 pandemic, the deliveries are entirely contactless. Zipline says this is the first emergency drone logistics operation to help hospitals respond to the pandemic, and it’s also the longest-range drone delivery service that’s been approved in the US.
“We’re likely in for a long-term fight against COVID-19,” Zipline CEO Keller Rinaudo said in a statement. “Using contactless drone logistics will be an important tool in that effort. The work underway here in North Carolina will provide the rest of the country with a blueprint...

Although dozens of states have gradually reopened non-essential businesses over the past few weeks, Regal Cinemas appears to be in no hurry to join the movement. In a solemn Tweet posted on Tuesday evening, the company announced that it currently wasn’t planning to reopen even one of its 564 facilities any time soon.
At this time, we have not made a decision when to reopen. We continue to work with authorities and studios in order to host our audiences and show them the big blockbusters in a safe environment. As soon as we have an opening date, we will share. pic.twitter.com/vtqUALuA5I

In the Tweet, Regal – whose doors have been closed since March 16th – expressed concern not only for its own financial situation, but that of the movie industry in general as well. Promising to work with “studios” to show their audiences “the big blockbusters in a safe environment,” the company expressed its deepest sympathies for the Hollywood system, which has been languishing ever since the global health pandemic put production schedules on hold earlier this spring.
But at the end of the day, the real suckers of this crisis aren’t found on the production side of the business, but over at distribution. Indeed, while these are difficult times for studios worldwide, the biggest ones are able to keep some of their income streams flowing by either selling leftover content to streaming services like Netflix, or uploading them, like Disney and HBO have started doing, on their own.
The new normal has definitely put the established order to the test, sometimes turning former allies into enemies in the process. Take the release of the animated kids film Trolls World Tour, for example. Though initially set to premiere in cinemas across the globe, Universal ultimately decided to hand it over to streaming.
Though this decision allowed them to make money quickly, it seriously jeopardized business relations with the media conglomerate’s traditional distribution channels. But while Regal has joined its rival AMC in boycotting this betrayal, it’s hard to imagine they won’t receive Universal with open arms once people feel safe enough to attend cinemas again. After all, if they don’t, what else are they gonna do?
You can’t keep a good manga down, just look at Battle Angel Alita and the seemingly permanent spot it’s occupied in bookstores and anime shops everywhere for over twenty years. The cult classic series finally got some mainstream attention in the form of 2019’s Alita: Battle Angel courtesy of longtime fan James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez. The live-action adaptation stands as one of the first (or only, depending on who you ask) Hollywood adaptations of a beloved anime to earn the fanbase’s respect, even though that didn’t translate to an equally impressive box office performance.
But that detail won’t be enough to snuff the passion of Battle Angel diehards, many of whom see Disney’s recent acquisition of the property as part of their purchase of 20th Century Fox as an opportunity to keep the franchise going. These fans have now taken to Twitter to campaign for a continuation to the 2019 film, tagging the Mouse House’s official account with requests for a sequel or prequel to adapt more of Yukito Kishiro’s original manga, or at least resolve the movie’s tease of a cliffhanger ending.
Excuse me Mr @Disney, when you are you making the sequel to Alita Battle Angel? And a prequel for that matter?

“It's kind of fun to do the impossible.” ~Walt Disney @Disney we will not stop bugging you. WE WANT ALITA SEQUEL. WE WANT ALITA 2. PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN.

If Disney don’t let 20th Century make a Battle Angel Alita 2 I’m gonna raise hell

Good morning Mr Horn. An evil organization is attempting to lobotomize Americans with brainless movies. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get Disney to greenlight an Alita sequel. Should you fail we will disavow any knowledge of your actions. Good luck, Alan pic.twitter.com/qfT6nUQacG

Here's a link for those who want to request Alita on Disney+. https://t.co/3NhWP3ylqu Click on "Give Feedback" and then "Request a film or show".
It's true that HBO has the rights to play Alita: Battle Angel until at least 2022, so this is only meant to send a message to Disney. https://t.co/lnz2wOpMoo

The World appears beautiful so that the living may love being alive in it. Beauty delights us & cheers us up. Alita: Battle Angel is a beautiful movie. If Disney cares about art and beauty, then a sequel is assured. @DisneyStudios @20thCentury #AlitaSequel #WatchAlita @doc_ido pic.twitter.com/eATt2QOnq4

Help us convince @Disney to greenlight it! Tell people to #WatchAlita and ask them to show @DisneyMovies that they will watch the #AlitaSequel in theatres! @DisneyStudios @20thcentury @JimCameron @JonLandau https://t.co/uHZJsWfNhH

While a D+ prequel isn't what we ultimately want, I see the positive here. If Disney is willing to invest in Alita, build the product value and audience awareness, they may well be setting Alita up for an eventual theatrical trilogy completion.

And let’s not forget the ongoing petition on Change.org for a sequel, which currently boasts over 155,000 signatures and counting.
Alita: Battle Angel released in January 2019, grossing a total of $85.7 million at the domestic box office and $319.1 million internationally against an estimated $170 million budget. Those domestic numbers aren’t great, but with recent reports of Disney expressing serious interest in doing more with the intellectual property – and some accounts even claiming a prequel show may be coming to Disney Plus somewhere down the line – these fans’ voices may have finally reached those in charge. Although the future of Alita: Battle Angel remains uncertain as of now, at least its fanbase is keeping its spirit alive and well.
Although the A-Force moment from Avengers: Endgame’s climactic battle may have felt a little forced and on-the-nose, it did go to show the depth of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s roster of female superheroes, as well as leading to speculation that the movie could be one of the many rumored spinoffs involving the various offshoot teams of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Captain Marvel may be the only one of the studio’s female heroes to headline their own solo movie so far, at least until Black Widow finally arrives in November, but Marvel appear to be making a concerted effort to increase representation across the board. As well as a sequel for Carol Danvers, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is poised to play a huge role in Phase Four and beyond in both the movies and TV shows, while the in-development Disney Plus exclusives Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk all have women in the leading roles.
While this will no doubt rouse some of the trolls who made life so difficult for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot back in 2016, if it happens organically and doesn’t feel as awkwardly shoehorned in as Endgame‘s A-Force scene, then there’s no reason why female superheroes can’t play a role in the MCU that’s just as important as their male counterparts.
Out of all of Disney Plus’ female protagonists, She-Hulk seems poised to play the biggest role in the series going forward, and not just because of her family ties to Bruce Banner. A leaked casting call indicated that Jennifer Walters was set to become a member of the Avengers in the future, and we’ve now heard that the green-skinned lawyer will strike up an unlikely friendship with another incoming heroine.
According to our intel – which comes from the same sources who told us Now You See Me 3 is in development and a She-Hulk show is coming to D+, both of which were correct – similar to the relationship between Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Bruce Banner’s Hulk, Natalie Portman’s God of Thunder and whoever ends up being cast as She-Hulk are also planned to become fast friends in the MCU and help each other out along the way.
Of course, that could instantly be dismissed as a lazy rehashing of Thor: Ragnarok’s buddy movie dynamic, but female superheroes are set to play a bigger role in the MCU than ever before in Phase Four and beyond, and teaming up two of the most powerful ones – such as Female Thor and She-Hulk – could definitely create an interesting dynamic between a super-powered defense attorney and an astrophysicist who finds herself with the power of a Norse god.
