Spider-Man: Far From Home Fan Art Imagines Mysterio With Helmet

In this last quarter of 2018, we’ve seen a fair few pics of Jake Gyllenhaal on the set of the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home, but so far, the actor’s head has always looked bare and exposed, without the trademark fishbowl helmet that comic book fans will know to associate with the character of Mysterio. But while we still haven’t got a proper look at the MCU equivalent of the Quentin Beck headwear, one fan has at least offered their interpretation of how the accessory might look.

Last night, frequent leaker Daniel Richtman ‏took to Twitter with an illustration from the next issue of Empire Magazine that showed Gyllenhaal in full Mysterio outfit, save for the helmet. But if this getup looked a little incomplete to you, Richtman followed that up with a fan edit showing the fishbowl over Quentin’s head, adding that while this isn’t an official image, the helmet artwork is “pretty much how it looks in the film.”

Sure, it’s not quite the same as viewing the prop in live-action form, but it’ll have to do for now, seeing how Sony is still dragging their feet on releasing the first trailer. Though a teaser screened weeks ago at Brazil’s CCXP, it’s starting to look doubtful that a preview will drop before the end of the year.

Nonetheless, we’ve learned a fair amount about the character of Mysterio in the past month, with the cast revealing at Comic Con Experience that Quentin will be teaming up with Peter Parker to fight Elementals across Europe. Based on the comic book history of these two, it seems inevitable that the pair won’t stay friends for long, but we’ll see if the team can at least defeat a few foes together before their eventual break-up when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5th, 2019.

Deadpool 2 Star Josh Brolin Throws Shade At Ryan Reynolds Over Ad Campaign

Once Upon A Deadpool Gets A Whimsical New Poster

As Once Upon a Deadpool’s two-week run in cinemas draws to a close, the official Deadpool Twitter account still has new promotional material to share, including this cutely illustrated Russian poster that was apparently posted at the request of Colossus.

The artwork nicely captures the festive and family-friendly vibe that the PG-13 Deadpool 2 re-release is going for (if only ironically), while showing off most of the core cast, from Colossus to Fred Savage. The image came with an accompanying message explaining that Wade Wilson’s long-suffering mutant friend insisted that the poster was tweeted:

“Colossus insisted we post this version of the Once Upon a Deadpool poster and what big guy wants big guy gets.”

For a re-release with such a limited run in cinemas, it’s clear that a fair amount of effort has been put into the promotional art for Once Upon a Deadpool. Previously shared posters, for instance, have brought us such sights as Wilson and Savage riding on the back of a reindeer, while another showed the pair hanging out with a heavenly band.

Despite the marketing generally going down well with fans, the film itself has a received a pretty mixed response, with many viewers feeling that the new cut of Deadpool 2 simply doesn’t have enough fresh material to justify the second viewing. That being said, the re-release certainly has its defenders, including Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, who argued that Once Upon a Deadpool is “one of the most daring and insane outings this series has seen.”

Nonetheless, if you’d rather the Merc with a Mouth didn’t have to watch his language, you can hopefully see him again in the upcoming X-Force movie, though given the lack of news lately for Drew Goddard’s ensemble flick, we could be in for a pretty long wait.

Wonder Woman 1984’s Cold War Setting May Hurt Its Chances Of Chinese Release

Though filming has reportedly wrapped for Wonder Woman 1984, we still have a long wait before Patty Jenkins’ next film arrives in cinemas thanks to Warner Bros.’ surprising decision to delay the release by 7 months. But to put that setback into perspective, there are currently concerns that the sequel to last year’s Wonder Woman might not make the trip to Chinese theaters at all.

Gavin Feng has been keeping us up to date lately on the various news and hearsay around DCEU movies in China, and in a recent tweet, it’s alleged that current events may impact the distribution of the upcoming superhero movie:

“Some insiders believe trade war has impacted Hollywood business in China. Universal still don’t receive any response about First Man’s censorship. Many believe it’s because COLD WAR background story. Some even worry about Wonder Woman 1984.”

Damien Chazelle’s First Man – which could probably do with an extra market to make some money in – incorporates Cold War elements into its Space Race storyline, and apparently this has caused a problem for the movie in the People’s Republic. And just as the first Wonder Woman was set against the backdrop of World War I, it sounds like 1984 will be drawing on the international tension of its titular year.

While the report is vague enough to suggest that the film could make it past the censors regardless, you have to wonder if this concern might impact the content of the movie. After all, DC’s Aquaman benefited hugely from its record-breaking run in Chinese theaters, taking in a total of $93.6 million in its first weekend alone. And with Diana Prince’s next big screen outing still almost a year and a half away from release, Warner certainly has time to make some adjustments if necessary.

All in all, it’s hard to get a good read on the situation at such an early stage, but for North American viewers, Wonder Woman 1984 will be arriving in theaters on June 5th, 2020.

Hugh Jackman Shares Charming Christmas Message With His Fans

It’s Christmas Day, and Hugh Jackman has a very special message for you. Well, you and his millions of adoring fans.

The Wolverine star has taken to Twitter this week to post a season’s greetings to his followers in the form of a short video (seen below) in which he celebrates what’s technically a white Christmas. Sure, the ground isn’t blanketed in rolls of white snow, but the light dusting on the lawn’s enough to qualify as ‘snow’ in my book, so I’m going to have to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

See for yourself:

This message comes after a superhero-free year for the actor. After all, he said farewell to the claws back in 2017’s Logan and despite much ribbing from Ryan Reynolds (and a few others), he appears to be sticking to his decision to wave goodbye to the role in his own way. Of course, there are still those who’d love to see him reprise as Wolvie in Marvel Studios’ take on the X-Men, but I think it’s going to be tough to top Logan and personally, I’d love to see a version of the character that’s entirely original in the MCU. But that’s just me.

Regardless, looking forward, 2019 could be a pretty big year for Hugh JackmanThe Front Runner has many tipping him for a Best Actor nod at the Oscars and he’ll turn up in both The Missing Link and Bad Education as well. In the meantime, I hope Hugh (and all of you) has a very relaxing, calm and convivial Christmas holiday.

Mark Hamill Reveals If The Joker Died In Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm

It’s now almost a hipster cliche to say that your favorite Batman movie is Batman: Mask of the PhantasmAfter all, it’s the spinoff of a 1990s animated series that sank without a trace upon its small theatrical release back in December of 1993. However, in my opinion, it really is the best Batman movie made thus far.

For one, it tells a wholly original story about a mysterious masked figure killing off Gotham’s most prominent gangsters, while also showing a Year One style Bruce Wayne dealing with unexpectedly falling in love. The film finds him questioning whether life as a masked vigilante is really what his parents would have wanted for him, and the resultant story represents the high point of the Diniverse in terms of style, score and animation.

It’s also got some incredible voice acting, with the highlight being Mark Hamill’s Joker. The character only enters the movie at the beginning of the third act, but quickly dominates the proceedings, with the final sequences in the abandoned Gotham’s World Fair being one of the best Joker moments in any media. After having been beaten half to death, Mr. J realizes that the building’s exploding around them and – certain he’s about to die and take Batman and the Phantasm with him – falls to his knees and launches into the most terrifying and manic Joker laugh Hamill’s produced to date.

Now, in an interview with THR (as part of an excellent retrospective article about the movie), the actor’s spoken about his experiences with the film and his thinking behind that climactic scene in which the Joker apparently dies.

“Sometimes you have to play the scene like he’s dying, but anyone that knows comics knows that he’ll never be completely dead. I was falling off bell towers, out of airplanes, I even landed in shark-infested waters. I thought it was funny when the mainstream media picked up on when they killed Superman in the comics. All of us comic fans laughed, we knew they were just rebooting it and wanted attention, but that made it on the evening news!”

He also commented on the pic’s famous flop at the box office, saying:

“We were living in New York at the time and I was so excited. We got to the theater and there were maybe twelve people! The people that were there were all diehard fans of the animated series and they recognized me.”

Thankfully, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is now widely available. It was recently released on Blu-ray and is included in the remastered box set of Batman: The Animated SeriesIf you’re a Bat fan and you haven’t seen it, be sure to check it out (just get a hold of the uncut Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker while you’re at it, too).
