Netflix’s attention-grabbing new thriller is the #1 movie worldwide

Netflix might regularly be delivering movies that find themselves in the thick of the awards season conversation, or churning out star-studded blockbusters with budgets north of $100 million, but one of the streaming service’s most reliable genres is the trashy B-tier thriller.

Any time the platform releases an original feature with a couple of recognizable names and a relatively high concept, it can almost always be relied on to reach the upper echelons of the most-watched list. That becomes especially true if the project in question captures the imagination of social media, which is exactly what’s happened with The Weekend Away.

James Gunn explains why he turned down a ‘Superman’ movie

When James Gunn was initially fired from Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Warner Bros. and DC Films didn’t waste any time in making the filmmaker an offer to head across town and board Hollywood’s other shared superhero universe.

In fact, Gunn has admitted that he was given the choice of virtually any property he wanted, which included Superman. Of course, he opted to play to his strengths and assemble another ragtag team of dysfunctional misfits, which worked out pretty well for everyone in the end.

Marvel Studios exec hypes upcoming Phase Four slate

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has indisputably reigned as the biggest and most popular franchise in the industry for over a decade, but Kevin Feige and his team have shown absolutely no intentions of resting on their laurels.

In fact, the shared superhero mythology has only continued to grow in scope, scale, and spectacle, with Phase Four shaping up to be the most ambitious stage of the relentless expansion by a distance. A lot of that is down to the advent of the Disney Plus era, not to mention the introduction of the multiverse, so all bets are off as to what comes next for the MCU.

Sebastian Stan compares Anthony Mackie’s ‘Captain America’ movie to ‘Rocky’

Marvel Studios didn’t waste any time in getting the ball rolling for Anthony Mackie’s feature-length debut as the franchise’s new Captain America, with the initial announcement breaking on the very same day he suited up for the first time in The Falcon and the Winder Soldier‘s finale.

The Disney Plus show’s lead writer Malcolm Spellman was revealed to be developing the script alongside Dalan Musson, but we haven’t heard a peep out of the project since Mackie was officially confirmed to be starring in August of last year.

A stupendously stupid Dwayne Johnson blockbuster tears it up on streaming

Dwayne Johnson and video games go way back, but the results have tended to be hugely inconsistent.

2005’s adaptation of Doom was a critical and commercial disaster, while he voiced the lead character and provided the motion capture for the middling SpyHunter: Nowhere to Run the following year. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level brought in huge money at the box office and went down a treat with audiences, though, even if the blockbuster duo weren’t based on a pre-existing console title.
