After months of hype, YouTube superstars Logan Paul and KSI finally exchanged blows today in front of millions of people. The official way to watch this fight was supposed to be a pay-per-view stream on YouTube that costs $10, but it seems most fans found alternate ways of watching the event.
Pirated broadcasts of the boxing match seemed to be everywhere on social media: on Twitter, one top stream had 70,000 people tuning in on Periscope, and there were other ones floating around, too. Live-streaming platform Twitch seemed to be the destination of choice for most people looking for unofficial broadcasts, however, given that the top content at this very moment is the fight. At its height, over a million people were using Twitch to watch...
It hasn’t been a good week for telecommunications companies: security researchers have uncovered security flaws with systems at AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile that could have left customer data accessible to bad actors.
Yesterday, BuzzFeed News reported two flaws that left customer information information vulnerable at AT&T and T-Mobile. In T-Mobile’s case, an “engineering mistake” between Apple’s online storefront and T-Mobile’s account validation API allowed for an unlimited number of attempts on an online form, which would allow a hacker to use commonly-available tools to guess an account PIN or the last four digits in a customer’s social security number, in what’s called a brute-force attack.
A similar problem occurred with phone...
A mixtape of Stephen King’s stories
Automakers around the world have spent the last few years promoting hybrid and electric drivetrain technology in order to show how they’re thinking about the future. But lately, some of them are looking back to the past to promote these new technologies.
Friday was the first day of the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, one of the ritziest car shows in the world. Staged along the California coast, the opening ceremonies featured appropriately outlandish announcements (like the $5.78 million 1,500-horsepower Bugatti Divo). But a few companies also went right for the nostalgia jugular.
Infiniti kicked off the show with its new Prototype 10, an all-electric racer that the company says “recaptures the spirit of early speedsters for an...

The sleek electric racer landed this week at Pebble Beach
As August draws to a close, I’ve been reflecting that this is one of my favorite times of year. It’s not that my birthday is coming up (don’t ask when, and don’t ask how old). It’s because Halloween is just around the corner.
I grew up on scary and spooky movies, whether it was A Nightmare on Elm Street, Poltergeist, or the Friday the 13th series. Later on, I ran across classics like Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, and foreign films from masters like Dario Argento. But no matter how old I got, I never lost my love for the run-up to Halloween. There’s something about the crispness of the air, the turning of the leaves, and the idea of walking through a crowded street dressed… well, dressed as just about anybody.
Maybe it’s the...
Fortnite would not be the phenomenon that it is today without the one-versus-one-hundred concept: conflict is the lifeblood of a battle royale game. While the pastel-colored shooter has arguably put its own spin on the genre through lighthearted additions like shopping carts, the other big draw is the world-building and status of the island. But Fortnite’s win condition is starting to feel at odds with what keeps me coming back to play the game.
Earlier this week, Fortnite captured the attention of players through a mysterious desert occurrence — every so often, a lightning strike emerged from the in-game rifts. Players predicted that it was leading up to something, as the timing of the strikes didn’t seem to be random. Good luck to...
The Nintendo Switch is a versatile device: it’s super portable, and the availability of apps like Hulu means that it’s more than just a gaming device. Now, you can add reading comic books to the list of things you can do with it. An app called InkyPen will launch in November, and will give players the ability to read thousands of comics on the device via a subscription.
InkyPen released a short teaser earlier this week that shows off the app in action. Readers use the controls to scroll in and around the pages in handheld mode or in TV mode. A monthly subscription (priced at $7.99 a month) will grant users access to the company’s full catalog when it’s released in November. According to io9, that catalog will include comics from...
Labor Day is nearing, which usually spells good deals across every category of tech. But in the meantime, there’s a smattering of savings worth recalling from throughout the week. From Amazon devices on the cheap, to exclusive Anker power bank discounts, and a small, but decent eBay coupon, here are the best deals of the week.
The best portable charger that you can stow anywhere is the Anker PowerCore Slim 5,000, and for Verge readers, it’s now $23.99 on Amazon with offer code VERGESL5. Seen in the photo above, it’s slim, as the name suggests, yet with a 5,000mAh capacity, this model has enough power to refill your smartphone from the brink of death.
Speed and capacity are important considerations when selecting a power bank, and if you...
In case you missed it, Marvel halted production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 yesterday, and for good reason. Not only is the irreverent supergroup without a director, but at the frequency and ferocity that Dave Bautista’s attacking the House of Mouse, they may very well find themselves minus Drax the Destroyer, too. Thankfully, then, filmmaker Joe Carnahan has a solution to the many a woe plaguing Disney and Marvel at the moment: “Rehire Fucking James Gunn.”
There’s certainly been no shortage of high profile talent weighing in on the termination of the director, and this isn’t even the first time Carnahan’s sounded off on the matter. Last month, The Grey director urged everyone to sign the petition to rehire Gunn, which has been making the rounds online for some time now.
In this instance, though, Carnahan didn’t mince words. The director of The A-Team took to Twitter late Friday evening and politely proffered “an instant fix for your GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 3 issues.” From there, however, the language got much more colorful. “Rehire Fucking James Gunn,” Carnahan clamored, before concluding: “Problem Solved.”
Unfortunately for Carnahan and the rest of the MCU fandom, I’m afraid the ship to rehire Gunn set sail quite a while ago. Last week, despite talk that the House of Mouse might consider reinstating the filmmaker, The Walt Disney Company put their foot down and since then, Marvel’s presumedly reached out to Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi.
Granted, it’s unclear what project the two parties discussed, but your mind would intrinsically wander to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After all, given that the Wellington, New Zealand native’s busy at the moment, maybe that’s why Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been indefinitely pushed back?
