She starred in one of – if not the most – iconic opening scenes in horror history, and now Scream actress Drew Barrymore has reprised her role as doomed teen Casey Becker for a new comedy skit that imagines what it would be like if Casey survived until 2020.
The sketch, produced for The Drew Barrymore Show, sees the host donning a short blonde wig to recreate her famous look from the 1996 flick. Once again, she’s contacted by Ghostface. But, thanks to modern technology, he’s not so much of a threat to her anymore. Now when he calls and incessantly texts her, Casey knows who it is, so she can just ignore him and go about her life. Yup, she ghosts Ghostface.
It’s funny that Barrymore was only in the first scene of the movie and yet Scream is one of her most famous roles. Some actors might have a problem with that, but clearly she doesn’t, going by her willingness to spoof herself in this skit. In a separate bit on her show, she also got together – virtually, of course – with a load of fellow Scream stars and had them recount how they all died at the hands of Ghostface.
Apart from being a brilliantly directed sequence from horror master Wes Craven, the actress’ involvement in the film’s opening helped legitimize it as more than just a mere slasher. It’s probably a big reason the franchise is as successful as it is, too, with a fifth movie in production right now.
Yes, Scream 5 is shooting in North Carolina, with Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette all back for a face-off with yet another copycat killer. There’s a lot of speculation from fans about who will die in this film’s opening scene as well. Scream 4 tried to one up Barrymore’s cameo by killing off two big name actresses in Kristen Bell and Lucy Hale, so this next movie will probably take a similar high concept approach.
Thor’s journey in the world of the MCU took a surprising turn during the events of Avengers: Endgame. Now, after living through failure and defeat, the God of Thunder will have to embark on a new path and find his place in the future of this cinematic universe.
Thanks to Ragnarok and the last two Avengers films, Odinson is currently one of the most compelling characters in the franchise. But unlike his fellow heroes such as Captain America or Iron Man, his arc has yet to come full circle or at least hit a high concluding note. Now that the original Avengers have all but disbanded and Valkyrie has taken the throne of Asgard, Thor finds himself in a strange position, having no affinity or identity to cling onto.
At the moment, we know that he’ll appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Thor: Love and Thunder. But what role will Chris Hemsworth’s character play beyond these flicks and especially through the next MCU phase?
Well, when you think about it, Thor must have a different mentality altogether after the war against Thanos. After all, Odinson started his journey as a seemingly invincible god who was cocky enough to go look for the Infinity Stones alone, as we saw in Age of Ultron. But not only did he fail to obtain them, he also failed to stop the Mad Titan from wiping half of all living things from existence.
Even in Endgame, a depressed and mentally unstable Fat Thor couldn’t keep up with Thanos’ strength as a warrior. In fact, it was ultimately Tony Stark and his sacrifice that defeated him. And yet, instead of flying off alone again, the God of Thunder chose to accompany the Guardians of the Galaxy.
In a sense, this could be the next big character leap for Thor in the storyline. After all, Odinson has to learn the principle of teamwork and the value of family, just like Tony and Steve did in the first three Phases. And who knows, maybe in time, the former King of Asgard gets to become the leader of the new Avengers team against the next big threat, not only as the last remaining of the Big Three, but also as the wisest and the most experienced of all the MCU superheroes.
The Flash movie has been delayed so many times already, but with all the exciting casting announcements and reports that have come out over the last few months, it may actually turn out to be worth the wait. The Scarlet Speedster’s first solo film will dive deep into the DC multiverse, with Michael Keaton definitely back as his Batman. It’s also set to see the return of Ben Affleck as the DCEU’s own Dark Knight.
That’s at least two Justice Leaguers who will be reunited in the film, and there may be one more. Insider Daniel Richtman has revealed on his Patreon page that Gal Gadot is now attached to appear as Wonder Woman in The Flash. He doesn’t reveal anything about the size or nature of her potential role, but it’s exciting news that she’ll be a part of the production regardless.
Fans have long wondered if Diana would show up, considering her significant role in the Flashpoint comic book event, which will be a major influence on the film. In the comics’ Flashpoint universe, Wonder Woman is a much more militant individual, going to war with Aquaman and the Atlanteans. The movie sounds to be a pretty loose adaptations of the source material, though, so it’s difficult to say how much of this will be lifted to the screen.
Still, giving Gadot the chance to play an evil Wondy would be very cool. She’s already portrayed the character in four previous movies – five, if you count the Justice League Snyder Cut as its own thing – so the actress would probably relish the chance to come at the character from a new angle. Alternatively, maybe Gadot is attached to cameo as the regular Diana, alongside Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, which would be a lot of fun, too. That way we get three of the League together.
The Flash is shooting early next year ahead of its planned release date of November 4th, 2022.
