Vin Diesel Confirms Cardi B Will Return In Fast & Furious 10

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu may have been forced to delete a tweet years later after facing accusations that he was a racist because he said he didn’t care for her music, but there’s a lot of people out there who call themselves Cardi B fans. The polarizing rapper will be seen on the big screen when Fast & Furious 9 arrives this weekend, which is no doubt going to split opinion down the middle.

The 28 year-old made her feature film debut in a minor supporting role as part of Hustlers‘ ensemble, but boarding one of the biggest franchises in the business is an entirely different proposition. Given the sheer size of the roster that comes attached to each new Fast & Furious, it’s likely that Cardi B won’t have too much in the way of screentime, and all we know so far is that she’s playing a character named Leysa, who has some history with Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto.

However, it sounds as though Cardi B could be in it for the long haul, after director Justin Lin lavished praise on the musician for becoming an instant part of the family when she first showed up on set.

“I love Cardi, you know? I mean, it’s amazing she showed up and within a minute she’s part of the family, right? And I love how when I got together with her, her and Vin were talking about the character because she’s actually really embedded into the overall universe, she’s been around for a long time and this is just the first time we are seeing her, so I’m really excited to explore that character of her.”

Not only that, but Diesel went on to confirm that Cardi B’s Leysa will be back for at least one of the tenth and eleventh chapters in The Fast Saga, so it sounds as though the mysterious Leysa could be integral to Dom and the crew’s final pair of adventures.

“We are very much excited to evolve her character and to expand it to the finale. She made it just in time. She came in Fast 9 just in time.”

The Fast & Furious franchise is known for roping in singers, rappers, martial artists and athletes from all over the world to play one-and-done parts in the series, but it sounds like Cardi B is sticking around until the bitter end.

Anya Taylor-Joy Thought The Witch Had Ended Her Career

Anya Taylor-Joy is now firmly established as one of the fastest-rising stars in Hollywood, having recently landed a Golden Globe win for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film thanks to her acclaimed turn as Beth Harmon in Netflix’s smash hit The Queen’s Gambit, but the 25 year-old has revealed she thought her career was over before it had even gotten started.

When the actress made her feature film debut in Robert Eggers’ supernatural period piece The Witch in 2015, she only had a handful of television episodes under her belt, and was now the lead in an atmospheric chiller. Of course, Taylor-Joy won rave reviews for her performance, with the movie itself also garnering widespread critical acclaim and commercial success after earning $40 million at the box office on a $4 million budget, but she revealed in a new interview that she was less than confident in the buildup to its release, and even considered quitting acting.

“Robert Eggers showed us the film maybe two hours before the audience screening, and I was devastated. I thought I’d never work again, I still get shivers thinking about it. It was just the worst feeling of, ‘I have let down the people I love most in the world. I didn’t do it right’. And I’m quite verbose, I like to talk, I like to communicate. I did not talk, I just cried. I couldn’t handle seeing my face that large. I know it sounds crazy now, but yeah, I was.”

Evidently, there was nothing to worry about, and her impressive work only served to open up more doors than ever before. Further outings in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split and Glass, as well as comedic Jane Austen adaptation Emma and The New Mutants put her firmly on the map, with The Queen’s Gambit taking her career to yet another new level.

Next up for Taylor-Joy is Edgar Wright’s neon-soaked psychological thriller Last Night in Soho, a second collaboration with Eggers in The Northman, a role in David O. Russell’s star studded next film alongside such luminaries as Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Rami Malek, Robert De Niro, Mike Myers and Chris Rock. That’s without even mentioning that she’s playing the title character in George Miller’s Mad Max: Furiosa, so The Witch worked out pretty well in the long run.

Transformers Producer Says Peter Cullen Will Voice Optimus Prime For As Long As He Wants

Peter Cullen is one of the most prolific voice actors in the business, racking up well over 200 film, television and video game credits, but he’s arguably always going to be best known as the voice of Optimus Prime across the majority of Transformers media, and it’s long since gotten to a stage where it’s strange to hear the leader of the Autobots speaking in a voice that isn’t Cullen’s.

The 79 year-old has lent his vocal talents to a huge number of characters including Winnie the Pooh‘s Eeyore, the titular primate in the 1976 King Kong remake, the camouflaged alien antagonist in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s action classic Predator and countless beloved TV shows like The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tom & Jerry and countless more, but Optimus Prime is always going to be his career-defining role.

At the event to celebrate the first official title, plot and character details surrounding next year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, longtime franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed that Cullen will continue to be employed as the iconic Cybertronian for as long as he wants, and the only way he’ll be replaced is when he decides that he doesn’t want to do it anymore.

“Peter Cullen brought this character to life with his amazing voice back in 1984. Is he returning? Absolutely. There’s, there’s no discussion without him really, you know, unless he didn’t want it. That would be the only way he would not be in here. I know Optimus is near and dear to him. Steven and I are going to be talking soon about some of the stuff that he’s interested in bringing to the table and, and vice versa. And so, yeah, he’s on board.”

Rise of the Beasts will take Cullen up to seven live-action and one animated thematical outings as Optimus Prime, in addition to seven Transformers shows and eleven video games, so nobody knows the gigantic alien robot better than he does. It’s a distinct blend of warmth and gravitas that he brings to the part, something that’s made his voice instantly recognizable, even if there’s a huge number of fans that don’t have a clue what he looks like.
