Russia’s shotgun-firing drone is designed to shoot down enemy drones
A video surfaced in recent days of a particularly scary concept — a drone with a shotgun mounted in its airframe. But it doesn’t look like it’s designed to hunt people: the video is a demonstration of a Russian device that’s designed to take on smaller aircraft, namely other drones.
The drone seems to have begun development back in 2016 (via Foxtrot Alpha) from a group of students at the Moscow Aviation Institute. While there have been instances of people mounting firearms (and chainsaws) to drones, there are some drawbacks — the recoil from a gunshot makes it impractical for actually being an effective weapons platform.

Two security researchers and self-described “white hat hackers” found a trove of unencrypted location, camera, and other data on a wrecked Tesla Model 3, according to a new report from CNBC. Unexpectedly on a Friday night, Valve has surprise launched a teaser site featuring a brand-new virtual reality headset, called the Valve Index, that appears to be a device of its own making and not one in partnership with its longtime VR partner HTC. The teaser site spotted by Ars Technica offers no information other than that the Index’s supposed release date is May 2019.

Tesla Model 3 hack shows new cars can snitch on owners after a wreck
Two security researchers and self-described “white hat hackers” found a trove of unencrypted location, camera, and other data on a wrecked Tesla Model 3, according to a new report from CNBC. And while it’s not a problem unique to Tesla, the example serves as a stark reminder that newer cars can become a security risk for former owners, regardless of whether they’re sold or wrecked.
The two researchers say they bought a totaled Model 3 in late 2018. When they accessed the car’s computer, they found unencrypted data from “at least 17 different devices,” according to the report. Google goofs by accidentally leaking new Nest Hub Max smart display
Google made a big goof today when, in what seemed like a relatively minor update to the connected home section of its online Google Store, it accidentally leaked the existence of a new Nest product. In the image, captured before it was taken down by Android Police, you can see Google touting the benefits of the new Nest Hub Max, as it’s called. According to additional marketing images, it seems like the device has a 10-inch HD display, a built-in Nest Camera, and stereo speakers.

Dumbo Review
Tim Burton’s Dumbo will hopefully be the outlier in this whacky parade of recycled classics Disney has set loose: a film whose problem doesn’t come from a money-grabbing, copy-and-paste approach, but rather from a series of creative departures that detract from the original’s children’s tale heart.
Burton’s live-action reimagining of the 1941 Disney classic seemed like a pretty good idea. With goofy oversized ears that act as both an apparent burden and eventual gift, Dumbo stands perfectly alongside the misfit characters the director has highlighted with a kindhearted spirit for decades. But in adding nearly twice the amount of runtime from the 64-minute original (and several underdeveloped human characters to carry that load), Burton and screenwriter Ehren Kruger somehow manage to lose sight of those enormous elephant ears – it doesn’t take long to figure out who is and who isn’t the star of this show – and in doing so, lose much of what they have to say.
The film starts out with veteran Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) returning to the Medici Bros. Circus from World War I without an arm to two torn-apart families. He finds his daughter and son, science wiz Milly (Nico Parker) and young Joe (Finley Hobbins), without their mother – she died of illness while he was away – and his fellow carnies – among which he used to be a famed trick horseman – discouraged by economic hardships.
In order to keep the circus alive, the ringmaster Max Medici (Danny DeVito) has sold Holt’s horses and replaced them with a pregnant elephant. He believes the baby will bring in the crowds they desperately need. We know that it will, eventually, but when the baby arrives with its blue eyes and big ears, everyone is horrified. That is, with the exception of Holt’s kids, who quickly discover that the elephant, with a little help of a feather, can fly.
This computer-generated incarnation of Dumbo is a glowing spectacle of cuteness, and at times, the signal of a promising future for these new-old Disney tales. The problem is that most of those times are not when we want them to be in the Dumbo story. While the design of the pachyderm’s appearance – especially with his eyes and facial characteristics – is nearly flawless, the majority of the flights are made awkward by the passengers the script unfortunately throws onto Dumbo’s back.
The primary one is Colette (Eva Green), a French aerial artist that amusement park entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (a rather uninspired Michael Keaton) wants to pair Dumbo with for an electric main event at his own big top in Coney Island. As the story spins out of control, and turns into a conglomerate escape-and-rescue mission, Vandevere becomes the villain – a switching of roles between Keaton and DeVito from their last Burton collaboration in Batman Returns – though the threat feels dull with a crew of unintriguing characters.
Lost underneath all of these idiosyncratic, yet unappealing plot lines is the adorable little elephant and the powerful story that everyone has come to see. While Dumbo steals every scene that he is in, it’s remarkable to see how many he’s completely absent from. It’s also quite frustrating seeing him being used more as an actual vehicle, rather than a vehicle for emotional insight. He learns his lessons eventually, but ironically for a much longer film, it seems to be a Cliff Notes version
Burton and Kruger, who infamously wrote three of the five Transformers movies, didn’t take a cue from the simplistic nature of their source material – or seemingly any cue for that matter. As far as I’m concerned, they could’ve changed the animal, given it some sort of oddball trait, and created a brand new character; it may have been less infuriating. To put it simply, the only thing throughout the film that keeps the idea of Dumbo in your head are the ears. If that’s the case, something’s surely wrong.

Jai Courtney Confirms Captain Boomerang’s Returning For The Suicide Squad
Before he helms Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn is directing The Suicide Squad for DC. We’ve been told that this will be more of a reboot than a straight-up sequel to David Ayer’s 2016 movie, but another star of that film has now confirmed that they’re set to return for the second Task Force X mission.
While promoting his new movie Storm Boy, Jai Courtney was asked by Business Insider about the next Suicide Squad and the Australian actor revealed that he’ll be back as Captain Boomerang in the anti-hero team-up flick, which he promises is going to shoot this year.
“We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time. There’s not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure.”

Courtney is just the latest of the original squad to be revealed to be returning. Viola Davis will be back as mastermind Amanda Waller while Margot Robbie is surely a shoe-in for another go at her fan favorite role of Harley Quinn. That said, Joel Kinnaman isn’t expected to return as Rick Flag. The biggest casting change, though, is the fact that Idris Elba is expected to replace Will Smith in the role of Floyd Lawton/Deadshot.
Gunn is also expected to fill out the team with some new characters pulled from the comics, including Killer Frost and King Shark. His Guardians star Dave Bautista is rumored to be following him to the DC universe to take on the role of Peacemaker in the movie, too.
Despite the comments that it’s a total reboot, then, it sounds like The Suicide Squad will be more like something in the middle – one of the leads will be recast and there will likely be a huge stylistic change, but it sounds like fans can still consider the first movie to be in canon with this one. The sequel is due to film in Atlanta, Georgia this September before releasing on August 6th, 2021, so be sure to stay tuned for more.

Someone Has Now Made A Video Of That Avengers: Endgame Thanus Theory
Avengers: Endgame is fast approaching, but wow, that Avengers: Infinity War left audiences on quite the cliffhanger. What with half the universe’s living organisms turned to dust and all. Even some of our favorite heroes couldn’t withstand the power of those darn Infinity Stones. Those few left are scattered, scared and scarred. How will the remaining defenders of Earth defeat Thanos and his mangled torso in Avengers: Endgame? Well, according to the internet, a certain insect-like man could use his power to defeat the Mad Titan with one, swift grow.
How, you ask? Simple: tiny Ant-Man enters Thanos’ big purple butthole, expands and destroys the CGI Josh Brolin from the inside-out. This is what has become known colloquially as “The Thanus Theory,” and it’s been all over the social media, making its rounds through memes and drawings.
People want to visualize this. People want this to happen. People almost seem like they need this to happen. So much so that some brave soul finally made a video and posted to Twitter, to immediate delight and raucous cheers. Twitter user Daniel Patterson posted the aforementioned clip which almost seems like a demo reel for his eventual takeover of Marvel Studios.

Personally, I think that if the Russo brothers don’t sneak at least one reference to this theory into the movie after seeing the above concept video, they’re going to lose the entire audience and nobody will ever watch another superhero film again. I repeat: if nobody mentions Thanos and his giant lavender ass in this flick, audiences will riot.
Heck, even X-Men: The Last Stand threw a “I’m the Juggernaut, bitch!” in there to quell internet nerd rage, and we all know that Paul Rudd enjoys emphasizing the concepts of “ass”es and “butt”s. Come on, Marvel. The internet has given you a softball. All Avengers: Endgame has to do is knock it out of the park…or up the alley, so to speak.
