The Marvels Star Is Hyped To Be Part Of The MCU’s Team-Up Sequel

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to extend an unassailable lead as the most successful franchise in the history of cinema, Kevin Feige is only going to keep taking more risks. The brand is almost completely bulletproof at this point, with the mere presence of the studio’s logo enough to convince audiences that the outfit’s latest project is well worth checking out.

The Marvels may be the sequel to a billion-dollar hit that ranks as the MCU’s second highest-grossing origin story ever behind Black Panther, and third biggest box office hit that doesn’t feature Tony Stark, but refitting the Captain Marvel sequel as an epic team-up movie that takes relative newcomers Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani and technically elevates them to title hero status alongside Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is still a surprising change of pace.

Production is now underway in the United Kingdom, with The Marvels coming to theaters in November 2022. Parris and director Nia DaCosta are currently on the promotional trail for the upcoming Candyman reboot, and in a new interview the actress could barely contain her excitement and playing such a pivotal role in a hotly-anticipated blockbuster.

“I’m floating on cloud nine. I’m really excited to be able to team up with Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan. It’s really cool to all be in one place. And then to have Nia DaCosta, who directed Candyman, also come over to The Marvels with us has been a really special experience. Just having the point of view of a woman, of a Black woman, and Nia’s so smart and her perspective and her visual aesthetic, it’s been really exciting.”

Parris’ Monica Rambeau was one of WandaVision‘s breakout stars, grounding the more fantastical elements of the narrative and occupying the middle ground between Wanda’s fabricated reality and SWORD’s efforts to bring her down. She’s got plenty of previous with Carol Danvers, too, which should provide one of The Marvels‘ meatiest subplots given that her mother’s best friend was largely absent while she was both growing up and grieving.

Matt Reeves Says The Batman Is The Dark Knight’s Most Emotional Movie

As a brooding nocturnal vigilante who witnessed the murder of his own parents, and then subsequently used that trauma and combined it with the thing he was most afraid of to inform an entire life dedicated to dressing up as a flying mammal, prowling the streets and rooftops of his hometown beating criminals to a pulp, there’s plenty going on under Bruce Wayne’s cape and cowl.

He’s a complex fellow to say the least, and that’s something Matt Reeves is hoping to use to his advantage in The Batman. There’s a recurring line of thought that most of the actors to have played the role over the decades tend to be much better at embodying one side of the title hero’s personality than the other, or neither if you’re George Clooney.

Ben Affleck and Christian Bale were great as Batman, but most folks would probably agree that nobody brought the eccentric billionaire head of Wayne Enterprises to better life than Michael Keaton. It’s a tough balancing act, but in a new promo video screened at CinemaCon Reeves explained how his reboot is set to take a different approach to the Caped Crusader.

“I felt that we’ve seen lots of origin stories. It seems things go further and further into fantasy, and I thought, well, one place we haven’t been is grounding it in the way that Year One does, to come right in to a young Batman, not being an origin tale, but referring to his origins and shaking him to his core. You can have it be very practical, but I also thought it could be the most emotional Batman movie ever made.”

The Batman is in an interesting position narratively, in that it’s not an origin story, but Robert Pattinson is still a rookie with just one year of experience under his belt. That hopefully means we don’t have to see Thomas and Martha Wayne gunned down for the umpteenth time, but it also gives the leading man a relatively blank slate on which to craft his take on the crimefighter from the ground up.

We can’t be too far away from seeing a brand new trailer with the blockbuster less than seven months away from release, and when it arrives we’ll be able to get a much better handle on how Reeves is putting his plan in motion.

Man Of Steel Star Would Love To Work With Zack Snyder Again

Warner Bros. may have severed all ties with the filmmaker and ended their fifteen-year creative partnership following the release of HBO Max’s Justice League, but every on-camera talent to have worked with Zack Snyder tends to have nothing but positive things to say about their experience, despite the Army of the Dead director admitting his former home studio don’t share the same sentiment.

Even during 2021 alone, a fruitful period for Snyder that saw his four-hour DCEU epic and the launchpad for Netflix’s apocalyptic undead universe released within the space of two months, the praise was coming in from all corners. Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Harry Lennix, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto and more had nothing but praise for the 55 year-old, so he’s clearly somebody that cultivates strong relationships with his cast and crew.

We can now add another name to that list, after Man of Steel‘s Michael Shannon admitted in a new interview that he’d love the opportunity to team up with Snyder again, whether it was as part of the DCEU or otherwise.

“That’s an interesting question. I really loved working with Zack Snyder, and I’m not sure, after everything he’s been through with Warner Bros. and whatnot, if he’s going to be returning to that stuff or not, but I would love to work with him again, definitely.”

It’s been eight years since Man of Steel was released and yet Shannon is still fielding questions about it, so the Superman origin story clearly made a lasting impression on people. The two-time Academy Award nominee hasn’t really played in the mega budget sandbox since his turn as General Zod ended in neck-snapping controversy, but maybe Zack Snyder could tempt him back into the fold.

After all, refitted Star Wars spinoff Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead 2 are both in development at Netflix, so there’s ample opportunity for Shannon and Snyder to be reunited.

New Report Says Venom: Let There Be Carnage Won’t Be Delayed Again

Another day, another question being asked about the status of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. A great deal has changed since Tom Hardy’s second outing as Eddie Brock was first slapped with an October 2020 release date, to the extent that instead of being the sophomore installment in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, it’s technically the first in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

The most recent trailer omitted a locked-in debut entirely in favor of the vague “in theaters this fall”, which instantly set alarm bells ringing. Sure enough, shortly afterwards Let There Be Carnage was pushed back three weeks to October 15th, but chatter nonetheless started almost immediately that Sony weren’t done quite yet.

It was only a couple of days ago that scuttlebutt began sweeping across the internet, positing that Let There Be Carnage may end up taking the January 2022 slot currently occupied by Jared Leto’s Morbius, which would in turn lead to another domino effect hitting Sony’s shared mythology, something they’d admittedly be used to by now.

However, a new report detailing the incredible success of the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer dropped in a brief mention of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and mentioned the possibility of another delay, but it was downplayed by talk that “a studio insider says rumors the film will move further to 2022 are not true”.

That’s far from a confirmation that we can all breathe easy and expect Venom: Let There Be Carnage to arrive on time, because as we’ve seen on plenty of occasions over the last eighteen months, anything can happen between now and October.
