The Batman Sequels Will Reportedly Focus Heavily On Bruce And Alfred’s Relationship

One of the most important aspects of the Batman mythos is Alfred Pennyworth, loyal and trusted butler to Bruce Wayne. Over the decades, the character has been portrayed as a kindly father figure, wise old sage, hardened ex-solider and everything in between, but up until the Dark Knight Trilogy, the dynamic between the two never factored all that heavily into the live-action movies.

Michael Gough was one of the few constants to stick around through the original quartet of comic book blockbusters, but his contributions were largely limited to exposition or a wry one-liner here and there. Michael Caine made for an excellent foil to Christian Bale across Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, painting his Alfred as a man conflicted about his charge’s life choices, even though he knows there’s nothing he can do to change his mind.

We’re now hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Ben Affleck would be returning to suit up in The Flash long before it was confirmed – that The Batman sequels will reportedly place a greater emphasis on the relationship between Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader and Andy Serkis’ Alfred.

There’s only a 22-year age gap between the two actors, much less than the 41 that separated Bale and Caine, while Gough was at least four decades older than Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney when they shared the screen. That already presents an entirely different way to explore the connection between the orphaned billionaire and his confidant, with The Batman franchise poised to paint the Bruce/Alfred alliance in an entirely new light that audiences have become accustomed to seeing.

The Batman Director Shares New Look At Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight

As you may have noticed, yesterday was Batman Day, with fans everywhere hopping onto social media to pay tribute to one of pop culture’s most enduring icons. The occasion wasn’t lost on filmmaker Matt Reeves, who’s more invested in the Dark Knight than most these days as he continues putting the finishing touches on The Batman.

We’re just six months away from Robert Pattinson’s debut under the cape and cowl, with a new full-length trailer coming at DC FanDome in a few weeks. It’s been over a year since we saw the first promo, and in that time the hype and expectations have only continued to rise, especially when The Batman already has two HBO Max spinoffs in development.

As you can see below, Reeves apologized for his cluttered workstation, but still managed to offer the merest glimpse of Pattinson’s Caped Crusader showing off one of his many Bat-gadgets.

Of course, it was a deliberate move on Reeves’ part to choose a frame where the leading man is largely out of focus, but you can guarantee that it’s being dissected and analyzed all across the internet to try and glean any sort of information. The Batman suffered from an incredibly tortured production due to the pandemic, but it’s been relatively plain sailing since shooting finally wrapped, and that trailer can’t come soon enough for Bat-fans all over the world.

Netflix Is Adding 16 New Movies/TV Shows This Week

Every week, Netflix bolsters the content library with a raft of new film and television titles, but only a lucky few will end up cracking the platform’s Top 10 most-watched list. That doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty worth checking out, but over the next seven days there are two in particular guaranteed to draw in a massive audience.

The first is Grown Ups, for the sole reason that it’s an Adam Sandler movie. The star is arguably Netflix’s biggest draw, to the extent that anything with his name attached is a lock to hit big. Subscribers have literally spent billions of hours streaming Happy Madison content regardless of whether it’s brand new or decades old, so there isn’t really any other outcome than a spot on the Top 10. As per Decider, another fifteen titles are heading your way over the next seven days, though, and you can check out the full list below.

Released September 20

This week’s other major release is Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass, the latest episodic effort from the horror auteur and creator of The Haunting of Hill House, as well as sequel series Bly Manor. The trailers have promised an eerie, atmospheric and terrifying trip to a remote island being plagued by mysterious happenings, and the filmmaker’s track record for things that go bump in the night is second to none.

Other than Grown Ups and Midnight Mass, there isn’t too much that jumps out as must-see, but the tastes and preferences of Netflix customers are unpredictable at the best of times, so don’t be surprised if a couple of newbies break out from the pack.

The Batman Composer Shares Epic New Clip From The Score

Michael Giacchino is widely regarded as one of the best composers working today, and a quick glance at his filmography shows that he’s also one of the most in-demand. He’s become a regular collaborator of many big names and even bigger brands, with The Batman marking his fifth time teaming with Matt Reeves after Cloverfield, Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and sequel War for the Planet of the Apes.

On top of that, Giacchino has scored seven Pixar movies, two Mission: Impossibles, the Jurassic World series, Jon Watts’ Spider-Man trilogy, Doctor Strange and successor Multiverse of Madness, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek and its two follow ups, Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit and many more.

The Academy Award winner was celebrating Batman Day yesterday just like the rest of us, and he took to social media in order to share a brand new clip teasing what he’s got in store for the project, which you can check out below.

It certainly sounds atmospheric and epic enough to do justice to the Dark Knight’s latest reboot, and you’d imagine that Reeves never considered anyone other than Giacchino as his composer. After all, he must be doing something right if The Batman director, Brad Bird, Bad Robot and Marvel Studios remain keen to enlist his services on a regular basis. Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer both put their own unique and memorable spin on the Caped Crusader’s soundtrack, so Giacchino has high standards and expectations to live up to.

Tom Hardy Asks Fans Not To Spoil Venom: Let There Be Carnage Credits Scene

The internet is buzzing over Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘s post-credits scene, even though nobody’s revealing what it is. Of course, rumors have already been making the rounds that may or not be correct, but we’ll all find out for ourselves when the movie lands over a year behind schedule on October 1st.

Early reactions to the symbiotic sequel have been overwhelmingly positive, and while the pandemic means Let There Be Carnage doesn’t stand a chance of matching its predecessor’s $850 million haul, it’s nonetheless poised to be a major success for Sony. That’s good news for the studio, who’ve been hit harder than most by the pandemic because they’re the only one of the ‘Big Five’ outfits that don’t have an in-house streaming service to fall back on.

Inevitably, most of the speculation is focusing on Venom crossing paths with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, but ahead of a preview screening leading man, producer and co-writer Tom Hardy urged those in attendance not to give the game away ahead of time, as per ComicBook.

“There is something, possibly, at the end of this movie that you might see that has become something of a tradition in these movies. What you see here, when you leave here, let it stay here. Will you promise me that whatever you see at the end of this movie, during the credits, you will let it stay here and not tweet it?”

That doesn’t mean people aren’t going to do it anyway, so it would be a wise idea for those wanting to remain in the dark to steer away from anything and everything related to Venom: Let There Be Carnage for the next couple of weeks. Whether it’s the first step towards that Spider-Man crossover or not, it’s safe to assume that the majority of people buying a ticket to see the movie in theaters will be sticking around until the bitter end.
