Scarlet Witch And Rocket Almost Had A Road Trip Subplot In Avengers: Endgame
As we learned from Avengers: Endgame, there are a multitude of different timelines out there, in which events played out similarly yet differently to our own. Well, the same thing goes for the movie itself, as Marvel junked many ideas for the big event film early on in the process – ideas that could’ve totally changed the story, in many cases.
We’ve now learned about a new one, thanks to co-writer Christopher Markus. ScreenRant caught up with Markus and Stephen McFeely at Comic-Con and asked them about early ideas for Endgame that didn’t make it into the final product. Markus revealed that there were many more “boring” subplots that got removed and one involved Scarlet Witch and Rocket going on a road trip.
“There weren’t terribly outrageous ones, there were a lot more boring ones. You can go to the Triskellion – it’s a building… There was an iteration where Wanda was alive, she hadn’t been blipped… Wanda and Rocket drove a car from the Triskellion to Doctor Strange’s house, then used the doorway to go to Kamar Taj and get [the Stone].”
While seeing Wanda and Rocket together, thereby giving us yet another odd couple crossover, might’ve been fun, a car journey like this would have undoubtedly changed the pace of Endgame, and probably not for the better. Markus went on to say this is exactly the reason why it never made it into the movie.
“It was like “really? We’re putting in a cross, inter-state car journey in this fast-paced action movie?.” Athen wiser heads prevailed.”
It’s also interesting to note that Wanda survived the Snap in initial drafts of the storyline. Not that Scarlet Witch was too short-changed in the finished version, as she got to give Thanos her all in the big climactic battle and shared a touching scene with Hawkeye over their shared losses at Tony Stark’s funeral.
Phase 4 will also be very Wanda-centric. Not only will she be getting her own Disney Plus series in WandaVision, but the surviving Maximoff twin will also return for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We’ll have to wait a while for more Rocket, however, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has yet to be given a release date.

The Eternals May Introduce A Major Marvel Villain Into The MCU
The Eternals was officially announced at last weekend’s Comic-Con, with the movie’s main cast brought together for the first time. We now know that Angelina Jolie (Thena), Richard Madden (Ikaris), Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), Brian Tyree Henry (Phaestos) and more will make up the ensemble team of immortal heroes. However, Marvel didn’t give us any details about the villains of the film: the Eternals’ rivals, the Deviants.
We might not know how the Deviants will be handled for the bulk of the pic, but we have learned which antagonist will be set up for the sequel. We Got This Covered has been told by a source close to the studio that the movie’s post-credits scene may feature Maelstrom. It seems that Marvel has big plans for the character, too, as according to our intel, he’ll be one of several major antagonists rolling around the MCU in its next phase.
Of course, things can always change given how far out we are, but at the moment, this is one idea that Marvel’s playing with as they definitely want him in the franchise – whether he debuts in The Eternals or another film. And given that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard the character’s name mentioned in relation to the MCU, we have good reason to believe he’s on the way.
In the comics, Maelstrom is a unique being as he’s the offspring of an Inhuman father and a Deviant mother. He has a passionate hatred of the Eternals for what they did to his mother’s people so, assuming that the heroes defeat the Deviants in this first movie, it’d make sense for Maelstrom to be out for revenge come its post-credits sequence. That said, our source wasn’t able to 100% confirm Maelstrom will appear in the credits scene. Instead, we were told that it’s very likely he’ll be teased at some point during the film to plant the seeds for a bigger role down the road.
The Eternals is the second Phase 4 movie out the door, though it’ll no doubt seem like an age until it arrives in theaters on November 6th, 2020. With production gearing up to get underway soon, though, we should be hearing a lot more about its plot, and possibly Maelstrom’s involvement in it, before long, so stay tuned.

Ridley Scott’s Alien Headed Back To Theaters For 40th Anniversary
It’s hard to believe it’s been 40 years since Ridley Scott’s Alien, the first and arguably best entry in this enduring sci-fi franchise, arrived in theaters. But it truly has been four decades and to celebrate, 20th Century Fox put out a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray package earlier this year.
However, it seems that the studio isn’t stopping there as we’re now hearing that the classic flick will be headed back to theaters courtesy of Fathom Events. As as is often the case with these things, it’ll be a pretty limited run, with the movie playing on October 13th, 15th and 16th. That doesn’t give you a ton of time to catch it, but you’d be wise to get in on the action as Alien is one flick that’s definitely made even better when viewed on the big screen.
Besides, it might not be a bad idea to rewatch the original film that started it all. In the years since Alien and its similarly beloved 1986 follow-up Aliens debuted, the franchise has given us a few more sequels and spinoffs, none of which have reached the same heights as Scott’s first entry.
As for what lies ahead for the property, well, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp wanted to do a timeline-altering reboot that disregarded all of the events that followed on from the first two films but unfortunately, that project was shelved. There was also that report by The Wall Street Journal last August which said that Disney (the property’s new owners) wanted to “scale back production of costly movies that don’t fit its family-friendly, franchise-focused formula,” which doesn’t exactly bode well for the Xenomorph.
Nonetheless, if you’d like to revisit the franchise at its dread-inducing peak, be sure to head on over to Fathom Events’ website via the link below and book your seat for a screening of Alien this fall.
