Tom Holland knows who bought Avengers Tower

When we’re talking about an intricately-connected superhero mythology that spans both film and television, one that’s roped in some of the biggest names in the business to star in projects with budgets that run to hundreds of millions of dollars, the occupier of a vacant building wouldn’t appear to be one of the many burning questions that fans have.

However, ever since Spider-Man: Homecoming established that Tony Stark had sold Avengers Tower ahead of the team’s move to a facility upstate, debate has raged over who put in the best offer. Several candidates come up more often than not including Norman Osborn’s Oscorp and Kang the Conqueror variant Mr. Gryphon, with a Loki Easter Egg teasing that the latter’s Qeng Enterprises had done just that in an alternate timeline.

Kevin Feige confirms Charlie Cox will be the MCU’s Daredevil, but doesn’t say when

Ever since Netflix canceled Daredevil in November 2018, fans have kept their fingers firmly crossed in the hopes that when the character was inevitably reabsorbed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Charlie Cox would retain the role.

We’ve heard rumors to that effect literally dozens of times over the last three years, and things really began to heat up when his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home was widely taken to be a foregone conclusion. Now, it looks as though his supporters are getting exactly what they wished for.

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ producers say they got to do everything they wanted

Whether it’s shoehorning Venom into Spider-Man 3 against Sam Raimi’s better judgement before disagreements led to him abandoning a fourth installment, overstuffing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to the detriment of the story or briefly withdrawing Tom Holland from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony have cultivated a reputation for being a little too hands-on when it comes to the studio’s most lucrative asset.

However, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have revealed that they’ve effectively been given free rein to do whatever they want in the animated sequel, which is no doubt partly due to the first installment winning rave reviews and winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Tom Holland wants to be the Iron Man to the MCU’s next Spider-Man

One of the very few criticisms aimed at the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise is that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has always been reliant on mentors and father figures, even though the rebooted series started with Uncle Ben already out of the picture.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark was a massive influence on the latest live-action Spidey, and his shadow loomed large over Far From Home despite his death in Avengers: Endgame, and that’s set to continue through next week’s No Way Home. Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan has also been a source of comfort and advice, while Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is about to step into the breach.

Oscar Isaac trends for being 2 fan favorite superheroes at once

Oscar Isaac’s first foray into the superhero genre didn’t go too well, with the actor admitting that he had a miserable experience playing the titular villain in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, which was greeted by critics with little more than a shrug of indifference.

However, the actor is doubling down on cult favorites after it was revealed that his Spider-Man 2099 will be playing a major supporting role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller confirming that his sole request before he agreed to a bigger part was that they didn’t make him boring.

An underrated Samuel L. Jackson thriller threatens the Netflix rankings

It would be stating the obvious to say that Samuel L. Jackson makes so many movies you’d need to be a dedicated completionist to track down every single feature film the actor has ever lent his name to, especially when his list of credits is fast closing in on the 200 mark.

As a result, he’s appeared in a great number of underrated, unsung or forgotten projects that don’t get the recognition they deserve, and we can definitely include 2008’s Lakeview Terrace on that list. Jackson delivers an incendiary performance in a suburban thriller that boasts Will Smith as one of the producers, and it’s fully deserving of being called a hidden gem.

Tom Holland confirms he’s starring in Fred Astaire biopic

Tom Holland may be best known for his tenure as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man, but the actor’s background actually lies in musical theater after he trained as a dancer and landed the title role in the stage adaptation of Billy Elliot back in 2008.

Of course, you may have seen his incredible performance on Lip Sync Battle where he brought Rihanna’s “Umbrella” to unforgettable life and left audiences with their jaws firmly on the floor, so he knows how to bust a move or two. The 25 year-old is looking to broaden his horizons outside of the MCU, and he’s now confirmed to the Associated Press that he’ll be playing the legendary Fred Astaire in an upcoming biopic.

It turns out we may have our answer as to why, with a new promo clip teasing the impending release of the latest full-length trailer offering us our first look at Pinkett-Smith caked in old age makeup, indicating that much more time has passed inside the Matrix than in the real world, which you can see below.

Tom Holland trolls Anthony Mackie over ‘Captain America 4’

The long-running but entirely friendly feud between Marvel Cinematic Universe co-stars Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie has generated plenty of hilarity over the years, with the two taking shots at each other on a regular basis.

Admittedly, the franchise’s freshly-minted Captain America does it on a more regular basis than his web-slinging counterpart, but Holland definitely administered the sickest burn. A few years back, Mackie admitted that he hasn’t seen Spider-Man: Homecoming, to which his opposite number replied that he hasn’t seen Falcon’s solo movie either.

A star-studded historical epic is battling its way up the Netflix charts

Thanks almost entirely to the success of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, which rang up $460 million at the box office and won five Academy Awards from twelve nominations including Best Picture and Best Actor, the early 2000s saw the big budget historical epic back in vogue for the first time in decades.

Within the space of a few years we’d seen The Last Samurai, Alexander, King Arthur and The Alamo, while Scott returned to the well twice more with Kingdom of Heaven and Robin Hood, but the only spiritual successor that managed to earn more money at the box office than Gladiator was Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy.

Tom Holland says he’ll step down as Spider-Man when the time is right

Tom Holland recently echoed sentiments made by on and offscreen mentor Robert Downey Jr. when he admitted that he doesn’t want to be playing the role of Spider-Man once he reaches 30. That’s understandable when he’ll have been suiting up for over a decade at that point, but there’s also the small matter of Sony teasing another trilogy.

Provided the franchise sticks to the two-year intervals that separated Homecoming, Far From Home and No Way Home, the actor would be 31 by the time a hypothetical sixth solo movie arrived in theaters. Of course, money speaks louder than anything else in Hollywood, so a fat pile of cash would no doubt convince him to break his word.

Steven Spielberg teases that he’s developing a Western

The internet was locked in a heated debate last night after a viral tweet saw fans trying to name the best three features that Steven Spielberg has directed since the turn of the millennium. Given that the in-development semi-autobiographical drama The Fabelmans will be his fifteenth feature since 2000, there’s plenty to choose from.

As fate would have it, many critics are lauding the West Side Story remake as one of the legendary filmmaker’s best efforts in decades, and while it was initially greeted with skepticism when Spielberg was announced to be helming a retread of a project that’s already gained classic status and won eleven Academy Awards from twelve nominations, the majority of doubts have now been assuaged.

Netflix is adding 23 movies and TV shows this week

Netflix tends to drop at least a couple of high-profile originals on a weekly basis, and while there are certainly a couple of in-house projects on the way between now and Sunday that should be under consideration for being added to your watch-list, there’s nothing that really jumps out as a heavy hitter.

The platform appears to be in a bit of a holding pattern this week, with many subscribers already focusing on the release of The Witcher‘s second season on December 17, and whether or not they’re going to get reacquainted with Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia before or after they’ve seen Spider-Man: No Way Home.
