Why solar is likely to power the Home of the Future
Right now in America, there are about 2 million homes with solar panels. Considering there are about 90 million single-family homes, that doesn’t seem like a lot. But consider this: we’re now on track to start adding a million new solar-powered systems each year. It’s taken a while to get here, but solar is increasingly becoming a popular option to power the Home of the Future.
The number of homes with solar “will tick up pretty quickly,” says Justin Baca, vice president of markets and research for Solar Energies Industries Association. The panels are growing cheaper, growth is happening at double-digit rates each year, and some key policymakers are becoming enthusiastic: California recently passed a requirement that new homes include...

Alcatel has made another budget phone with a tall-and-slim 18:9 display
They’ve never become the dominant form factor, but tall-and-slim smartphones with screen ratios that add more vertical space are not uncommon. The latest example is from French brand Alcatel, which today unveiled its latest budget device: the Alcatel 7.
The 7 costs $179.99 and is available exclusively from carrier MetroPCS. As you’d expect for the price, this is not the most exciting fare, with a 2.5GHz MediaTek processor (an octa-core MT6763), 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a healthy 4,000 mAh battery. There are dual rear-facing cameras (one, 12-megapixel; the other, 2-megapixel) and a single, 8-megapixel front-facing lens. There’s also a fingerprint sensor and the option of face unlock.
The most interesting feature though...

Samsung has a new SmartThings hub and router with Plume’s mesh Wi-Fi tech
Samsung is overhauling its SmartThings product line today, with two key new offerings: a brand new hub, which can now wirelessly connect to your router, and a new Wi-Fi router that includes mesh networking tech from Plume.
The router is the bigger deal. It’s a dual-band model that’s sold in a three-pack and, like other mesh routers, is meant to have units placed all around your home to deliver better Wi-Fi coverage. This is Samsung’s second try at a mesh SmartThings router, but this time around, it’s licensing mesh networking tech from Plume. Plume has a lot of buy-in from major cable companies already, so presumably the tech is well-tested and — for Samsung to have gone and paid for this integration — probably better than whatever...

Venom Battles Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man In Awesome Fan Trailer
We’re so close to the release of Venom that you can practically smell the toxicity in the air. And although we’ll undoubtedly get a live-action adaptation of the sinister symbiote worthy of the antagonistic moniker – due in large part to typically magnetic work from Tom Hardy – whether or not everyone’s favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be stopping by, does remain to be seen.
The latest intel on the situation, according to director Ruben Fleischer, is the titular web-head will not be apart of the cantankerous Klyntar’s first solo venture. Naturally, however, that hasn’t stopped the fandom from envisioning what Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock locked in battle with various Spider-Men could look like.
After all, Hardy did have a choice word or two for the current portrayer of the eponymous web-slinger, Tom Holland, last month at SDCC, and seeing as such a showdown has even been teased by Fleischer himself, it might just become a reality one day. Until then, though, we’ll have to make due with this awesome concept trailer.
For those of you who don’t know, a new fan theory is doing the rounds and is suggesting that none other than Andrew Garfield could reprise his role as Peter Parker and make a cameo appearance in Ruben Fleischer’s Venom. While it’s certainly sparked some serious debate online, Stryder HD has taken the concept one step further now and compiled footage from The Amazing Spider-Man, Venom, Spider-Man 3 and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter into a trailer where such an encounter’s envisaged.
If you ask us, we wouldn’t count on seeing any version of Spidey show up in the film, but either way, it won’t be long now until all is revealed. And that’s because Venom – starring Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson – is scheduled to invade your local multiplex on October 5th, later this year.

Idris Elba Fuels James Bond Speculation With Cryptic Tweet
The internet went wild the other day when it was reported that EON’s top choice for the next James Bond was longtime fan pick Idris Elba. The prolific star’s known for his rugged charm and grit, so it’s clear that he’d make an amazing 007. But unfortunately, it turned out that the reports were nothing more than rumors made up by some overeager fans. Or were they?
Though they’ve since been debunked, Elba himself’s now fueling the speculation with a cryptic Tweet he posted earlier today. Taking to the social media platform, the actor shared a photo of the top half of his forehead (yeah, we don’t get it either) along with the caption: My name’s Elba, Idris Elba. Clearly referencing the iconic Bond line, it’s unknown if this is just him having fun with his fans, or he’s genuinely hinting at something, but it’s certainly got people talking once again.
If nothing else, it just goes to show that there’s a real hunger out there to see Idris Elba play the character once Daniel Craig hangs up his holster after Bond 25. And with any luck, EON will genuinely take this into account when it comes to casting the next 007.
After all, we know that the producers are open to having a black, or even female, Bond after Craig, and it wouldn’t surprise us at all if they did indeed go with Idris if they decide to head down the former route. At 45, he’s certainly getting on in age, but he could still have at least 3-4 films in him if he were to pick up the Walther PPK and assume the role.
Regardless, the 25th installment in MGM’s legendary James Bond franchise remains on course to hit U.S. theaters on November 8th, 2019. And after that? Well, we can’t say just yet, but with any luck, outing number 26 will have Mr. Elba suiting up to bring 007 to life.

New Poster For The Nun Rips Off The Exorcist
Given the classic status of William Friedkin’s The Exorcist, you’d think Warner and New Line would be looking to distance The Nun from that kind of pressure, but as you’ll see in the poster below, the fifth installment into The Conjuring universe is practically being invited into MacNeil manor.
Scheduled for a September 7th release later this year, The Nun likely has the disciple of horror in your life chomping at the bit, and rightfully so. The Conjuring 2 spinoff, directed by Corin Hardy (The Hallow), will finally see Valak the demon steer its own full-length feature, and if the marketing’s anything to go by, we should indeed start “praying for forgiveness.”
However, before we get down on bended knee to the Defiler, we’ve just received unarguably the best piece of advertisement for The Nun yet, in the form of an intimidating new poster – which you can check out below:
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to unearth the similarity between this tidbit of promotional art and the aforementioned Exorcist. Obviously, the most glaring parallel between The Nun one-sheet and Bill Gold’s iconic image is Father Lankester Merrin (Max von Sydow) and Father Burke (Demián Bichir). Both can be seen toting an all black briefcase – albeit in opposite hands – and some sort of fedora.
As stated above, look for The Nun – which will see Bonnie Aarons reprise her role as the titular abbess – to haunt your local multiplex on September 7th. The only question that remains, is, will it live up to the comparison we mentioned above, or is this all a marketing ploy and the film will merely besmirch the good name of The Exorcist? Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Chadwick Boseman Trolls Chris Hemsworth Over Not Going For Thanos’ Head
It’s Chris Hemsworth’s own bad luck that not only does the script of Avengers: Infinity War dictate that his character makes the last fatal error of the entire film, but it also provides the most memorable and meme-able of lines to summarize this screw-up. We dread to imagine the flack that Chris Pratt would receive if Star-Lord’s famous slip-up could be condensed into a passage of dialogue as simple and catchy as “You should have gone for the head.”
Alas, it’ll probably be a long time now before people stop reminding Hemsworth of the God of Thunder’s latest blunder, and apparently, even his colleagues are still ribbing him for his failure to kill Thanos at the last possible moment. Just take co-star Chadwick Boseman for example, who had the cheek to mention Thor’s mistake in the midst of a belated birthday message.
The Black Panther star tweeted the following just one day after Hemsworth turned 35:
“Shoulda gone for his head, bro. It was literally right there. Just sayin. Happy belated Born Day, @chrishemsworth!”
Damn. As if getting a face full of burning candles on his birthday wasn’t bad enough, Hemsworth now has to put up with this mockery, and from the esteemed ruler of Wakanda, no less.
Thor’s ill-advised decision to strike the Mad Titan’s torso has come up in more than one discussion with Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo, and the pair certainly aren’t letting the poor guy off the hook. An interview from earlier this year, for instance, saw Joe plead in defense of Peter Quill’s mistake, before changing the subject somewhat to criticize the son of Odin for his foolish pride.
“I would argue that the fan base could be equally upset with Thor, who chose to throw that ax into Thanos chest and not his head. He did so because he wanted to tell Thanos that he got his revenge.”
That being said, the filmmaker also went on to express his hope that such flaws in these characters will make them all the more engaging and identifiable.
“Had he gone for a kill shot, that snap would not have happened. These are choices that characters who are feeling immense pain make and hopefully, the audience can learn to empathize with those characters because they can grow through stories. Stories can teach us things and that we should try to see every choice from the perspective of the character that made the choice.”
Because of Thor’s choice, Avengers: Infinity War concluded with half of all life in the universe disintegrating. Needless to say, that’s a lot to have on your conscience, so you probably shouldn’t expect the God of Thunder to be in the chirpiest of moods when Avengers 4 continues the saga on May 3rd, 2019.
