First Dark Fate Reactions Call It The Best Terminator Movie Since T2
It’s almost inevitable that every valuable property in Hollywood is going to be rebooted eventually, but the producers behind the Terminator franchise seem to be trying especially hard in this regard. The upcoming sixth outing for the series, Terminator: Dark Fate, will be the third hybrid of reboot we’ve seen in ten years, but given that it’s set to be the spiritual successor to James Cameron’s iconic sci-fi sequel Judgment Day, hopes are high that it’ll be a success.
Of course, it’s not like we haven’t had high hopes before only to be incredibly disappointed. After all, both Salvation and Genisys were touted as having the potential to spawn new storytelling opportunities and ultimately, new franchises, but both movies failed to deliver. The potential was definitely there, but each film faltered in its execution as neither McG nor Alan Taylor proved to be capable of pulling off a successful Terminator flick.
Thankfully, though, Deadpool director Tim Miller seems like he was up to the task, as the first reactions for Dark Fate hit the web tonight and for the most part, they’re pretty positive, with most agreeing that it’s the best Terminator movie since the second one. Then again, that’s not saying a whole lot, but you can check out the responses from a few critics down below and see what they had to say.
#TerminatorDarkFate is easily the best Terminator movie since T2. Has some fantastic action and loved how the film features 3 female protagonists that all kick-ass. So awesome seeing Linda Hamilton back as Sarah Connor. pic.twitter.com/15Yb6cC18W

I've been a fan of Mackenzie Davis since seeing her in 'Halt and Catch Fire'. But she takes it to another level in #TerminatorDarkFate where she kicks all kinds of ass. If you like her work in Dark Fate, go back and watch #HaltandCatchFire. pic.twitter.com/P5gnqoXjFL
— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) October 21, 2019
Oh the film, you ask? It’s solid. Super well articulated action. Linda Hamilton is aces. Easily the best sequel since T2. #DarkFate takes The Force Awakens’ “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality to Cameron’s films and turns out it ain’t broke.
— Haleigh Foutch (@HaleighFoutch) October 21, 2019
Is #TerminatorDarkFate the best since T2? Yup. Linda Hamilton’s return makes a BIG difference, Mackenzie Davis kicks all the ass, & Natalia Reyes is an excellent anchor. Gabriel Luna’s Rev-9 is a winner too. Physicality, VFX, fights – all spot on! Glad they gave this another go. pic.twitter.com/4Q1FNN49Hw

TERMINATOR’s thought of as Arnold’s franchise. DARK FATE makes it clear he wasn’t the key ingredient that made it work. It was Linda Hamilton. She’s incredible in this, and the movie’s very solid. (I recently defended all the TERMINATOR sequels, so make of this what you will.) pic.twitter.com/3JSsac7LrL

I was skeptical of TERMINATOR: DARK FATE. Thought the trailers were not great. But I would up enjoying it quite a bit, and the difference maker (vs the other post T2 sequels) is Linda Hamilton. It’s always been HER story and Hamilton adds the needed weight here.

Terminator: Dark Fate is basically Terminator: The Force Awakens. A satisfying, exciting reboot that’s essentially the best parts of T1 & T2 in a blender. Davis, Reyes & Hamilton are excellent, the action wows & while it’s familiar, it’s easily the best T3 yet. Terminator is back pic.twitter.com/W1emrXIq5C

#TerminatorDarkFate is the best of the TERMINATOR sequels after T2. Easily among the year’s most entertaining action films, it’s thrilling, intense & non-stop, but also a sweet story about making things right. Arnold is great & Linda rules, but Mackenzie Davis THROWS DOWN pic.twitter.com/8TQ4Gpkkdr
— Erik Davis (@ErikDavis) October 21, 2019
#TerminatorDarkFate is better than you think it’s going to be. Its trying hard to be the Force Awakens of Terminator movies, and mostly succeeds. But it’s lacking Cameron’s innovation, evolution and directing. Arnold is fantastic, the best of his post T2 Terminator appearances.

Excited to report Terminator: Dark Fate is the best sequel in the franchise since T2. It's a "return to basics" movie — reminiscent of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in that way — but the new heroes are fantastic, it's great to see the legends kicking ass, and the action is great. pic.twitter.com/aAHSXhFyA4

Said to be the beginning of a new trilogy for the franchise, Terminator: Dark Fate blasts into theaters on November 1st. And while these first reactions are certainly exciting, it’s important to remember that they only represent a small portion of critics and may not be in line with what the general public think. Still, they’re a good start for the film and we’ll see for ourselves if they’re on the mark in just a few weeks.

Thor: Love And Thunder Star Natalie Portman Weighs In On Martin Scorsese’s Marvel Criticism
Thor: Love and Thunder star Natalie Portman was recently in attendance at the 6th annual Los Angeles Dance Project Gala where she took a moment to respond to Martin Scorsese’s recent claim that the Marvel movies don’t qualify as cinema.
The legendary director’s comments managed to cause quite a stir in the MCU fandom, especially after the filmmaker doubled down on his stance at a subsequent event supporting his new feature The Irishman. Already, the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Love and Thunder helmsman Taika Waititi have weighed in on Scorsese’s remarks, and now Portman has shared her thoughts with The Hollywood Reporter, arguing that “there’s room for all types of cinema” and “there’s not one way to make art.”
The Jane Foster actress went on to suggest that the MCU movies provide valuable escapism for the filmgoing public:
“I think that Marvel films are so popular because they’re really entertaining and people desire entertainment when they have their special time after work, after dealing with their hardships in real life.”

No doubt the debate over the MCU’s validity as art will continue for a while yet, especially now that Francis Ford Coppola has weighed in on the matter with comments that make Scorsese’s criticisms seem almost tame by comparison. Speaking to the French press over the weekend, the Godfather director denounced the Marvel franchise as “despicable” and “the same movie over and over again.”
Nonetheless, the superhero saga continues. And while Portman herself has had some criticisms of her own about her experience working on 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, the actress will be coming back in a big way with the release of Thor: Love and Thunder on November 5th, 2021. In the meantime, you might want to check out Scorsese’s The Irishman when it hits theaters on November 1st of this year, because hey, it’s still okay to like both.

Superbad Super Fan Gets Arrested For Using McLovin Fake ID And Seth Rogen Loves It
Points for style, but none for intelligence.
Earlier this weekend, police in Iowa City arrived at a bar to find 20-year old Daniel Alfredo Burleson sitting down with a drink in his hand. When they approached the underage man and asked for his ID, Burleson, clearly intoxicated, fumbled around his wallet before determining that he didn’t have one. However, one of the officers spotted something that looked an awful lot like an ID.
But, it wasn’t the one he was looking for.
Instead, the picture was of Christopher Mintz-Plasse from 12 years ago, with the name “McLovin” attached to it. Burleson, the officers noted, didn’t look at all like a 22-year-old Hawaiian organ donor; so he was taken into custody.
The ID, a replica of the one used in Greg Mottola’s classic comedy Superbad, was purchased off of Amazon and clearly states that it is not a valid form of identification. Nevertheless, the 20-year old was allowed into the bar, and now, the establishment may lose its liquor license and get shut down.
While that news certainly isn’t great (at least for the owners), Burleson has become a sort of local hero, whose popularity increased tenfold once Seth Rogen himself retweeted the story.
My work here is done. https://t.co/OxlR08Re8u
— Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) October 16, 2019
Rogen was one of the co-writers and producers of the comedy, as well as one of its stars. Ironically, he plays a police officer who is fooled by the actual “McLovin” ID and goes on a series of antics with his partner (Bill Hader) and the young fraud Fogel (the aforementioned Christopher Mintz-Plasse).
I don’t know about you, but does this story make you want to watch Superbad again? If so, be sure to check the film out on Netflix as soon as possible.

Sebastian Stan Defends The MCU After Francis Ford Coppola Bashes Marvel Movies
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to be one of the world’s most popular movie franchises, the much-beloved series continually receives criticism from critics, moviegoers, and occasionally, filmmakers themselves. Chances are, you’re probably familiar with the comments made by famed director Martin Scorsese, the visionary behind such classics as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas. Just last week, he referred to theaters as amusement park attractions and declared that MCU movies aren’t cinema.
It didn’t take long for other Hollywood figures to rush to Marvel’s defense, with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn pointing out the irony behind the entire incident — Scorsese bashed MCU films without having seen them, which is not unlike what happened when religious groups and conservatives lambasted The Last Temptation of Christ after it hit theaters in the late ’80s.
The incident began to die down, but it looks like it’s been reignited thanks to another famous Hollywood director. Francis Ford Coppola, the man behind Apocalypse Now and The Godfather trilogy, recently went on record saying Marvel movies are despicable. As you can imagine, that particular sentiment wasn’t well-received by fans, but one MCU actor has come to the franchise’s defense — Sebastian Stan.
During a panel that took place earlier today at Fandemic Tour Houston, the Winter Soldier himself said even though Coppola is a personal hero of his, he doesn’t agree with the director’s feelings toward the franchise.
“He’s one of my heroes and I was listening to him and meanwhile, I just spent the day with all of you,” Stan explained. “People have been going up to me like ‘Thank you so much for this character,’ ‘This movie helped me out so much,’ ‘This movie inspired me. Now I feel better. Now I feel less alone,” so how can you say these movies are not helping people?”
Chances are, the debate about the MCU’s reputation within the intersection of arts and culture will continue to rage on for some time. Personally, the staff here at We Got This Covered would prefer if every movie got its fair shake, and we’re hoping that more industry figures come to the franchise’s defense.
