Another new ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ poster arrives as tickets go on sale
The internet is gripped in an uneasy sense of excitement and panic now that tickets for Spider-Man: No Way Home have gone on sale, with virtually every website operated by a major theater chain having crashed under the weight of demand.
Of course, this is exactly the outcome we’ve been expecting ever since Sony leaned into the hype by announcing an entire Spider-Monday, dedicated solely to the tickets now being available for purchase. If you haven’t been able to get your hands on one just yet, then fret not, for the studio has unveiled a brand new theatrical poster.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ breaks the internet after tickets go on sale
Well, we all knew this was going to happen. So much hype has built around Spider-Man: No Way Home that even something as straightforward as buying a ticket to see the movie on opening day was never going to be easy, especially when Sony announced an entire Spider-Monday full of festivities.
Fans all over the country stayed up late, patiently waiting for the clock to strike midnight so they could guarantee their attendance at one of the earliest showings of the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster, and many of them have been left disappointed.

An awful action reboot is taking out the competition on Disney Plus
What happens when you adapt a popular video game series for the big screen, only to see it widely panned by critics despite making decent money at the box office? Obviously, you reboot it and make it exponentially worse and watch it earn less.
Timothy Olyphant has been open in admitting that the only reason he signed on to 2007’s Hitman is because he’d just bought a house and Deadwood had been canceled, so he was open to anything. The painfully mediocre actioner managed to do a solid turn after bringing in $101 million during its theatrical run against a $24 million budget, but a 15% Rotten Tomatoes score killed any franchise potential.

Watch: Henry Cavill confirms he’s wrapped ‘Enola Holmes 2’
We’ve long since resigned ourselves to the fact that the speculation surrounding Henry Cavill’s future, or lack thereof, as the DCEU’s canonical Superman will always be lurking in the background whenever the actor’s name comes up, but he’s been keeping himself busy even without the prospect of slipping back into the spandex looking as though it’s forthcoming.
Having wrapped Season 2 of The Witcher earlier this year, Cavill has since dived into a world of blockbuster espionage he’s become familiar with after The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Mission: Impossible – Fallout to shoot Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle, while he’s also got John Wick director Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot and The Rosie Project on the horizon.

A acclaimed midlife crisis comedy is toasting to streaming success
Hollywood has largely seen Mads Mikkelsen typecast as a villain, whether that’s the utterly forgettable Kaecilius in Doctor Strange, Casino Royale‘s calculated Le Chiffre, the sinisterly charming Hannibal Lecter or his upcoming turn as Johnny Depp’s replacement in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
While there’s no denying that the actor is very good at being the bad guy, he’s also an all-round phenomenal talent that doesn’t really get enough opportunities in Hollywood to show what he can do. Thankfully, he returned to his native Denmark to headline Another Round, which turned out to be one of the best dramatic comedies to come along in years.

‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ prologue shockingly praised for scientific accuracy
Given that we’re talking about a franchise that began with a wealthy and eccentric entrepreneur using DNA discovered in fossilized amber to genetically recreate dinosaurs, bring them back from extinction after 65 million years to use them as the basis of a tourist attraction, Jurassic Park has hardly been lauded for its realism.
Each new installment in the blockbuster series veers further and further into outlandish territory, whether it’s a T-Rex rampaging through San Diego in The Lost World, an invisible Indominous Rex in Jurassic World or Jimmy Buffet managing to flee a rampaging reptile attack without spilling a single drop of his dual-wielded margaritas.

A record-breaking box office bomb is rebounding on streaming
Up until yesterday, it didn’t matter how many A-list names or Academy Award winners came attached to the project, virtually every movie aimed at older audiences to hit theaters since March of last year had flopped at the box office.
Denzel Washington, Clint Eastwood and Will Smith couldn’t save The Little Things, Cry Macho or King Richard from commercial disaster, but Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci bucked the trend in spectacular fashion this past weekend by landing the biggest opening weekend for a drama since 2019.

‘Spider-Man’ fans debate if they’d rather see Noir or 2099 in live-action
Next month’s No Way Home marks the seventh live-action Spider-Man movie, and his tenth appearance overall if you include Tom Holland’s supporting roles in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, but they’ve all been modern-day tales focusing on Peter Parker.
While that’s to be expected given that the iconic superhero’s origins and history are so well known in every corner of the globe, Sony’s animated Into the Spider-Verse gave us a tantalizing peek into what a Spidey blockbuster could look like when another iteration of the web-slinger is the focus.

‘Eternals’ director shares photo from parking lot test screening
Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster Eternals may have wrapped shooting in February 2020, just weeks before the world was ground to a standstill by the effects of the pandemic, but the intergalactic epic was still hit hard by the worst global health crisis in generations.
Not only was the movie delayed by an entire year as a result, but it hasn’t been able to fly as high at the box office as it would have done under normal circumstances, even if a haul of almost $370 million after three weeks is still an impressive return for the standards of the time, never mind for the worst-reviewed installment in MCU history.

James Gunn reveals Baby Groot wasn’t the most popular character in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’
Audiences instantly fell in love with Baby Groot from the second they were first introduced to the reborn version of the sentient tree, with the little guy dancing his way around an action-packed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 prologue and capturing the imagination of fans all around the world.
It also conveniently allowed Disney to merchandise the ever-loving sh*t out of the adorable critter, while he stole just as many scenes as he did hearts during his innocently hilarious reactions to the intergalactic adventures that unfolded around him. Based on the reception to Baby Groot, you’d have thought he would have far and away been Vol. 2‘s most popular character.

An existential sci-fi muses its way up the streaming charts
Denis Villenueve has become Hollywood’s go-to guy if you’re looking for blockbuster sci-fi that goes light on action scenes and set pieces, but heavy on existentialism, moral quandaries and stunning cinematography.
Blade Runner 2049 bombed at the box office despite being a direct sequel to one of the greatest efforts the genre has ever had to offer, but the same fate thankfully didn’t befall literary adaptation Dune, which is sitting on a worldwide tally of $374 million to fully justify the decision to give Part Two the green light.

‘Licorice Pizza’ sets impressive pandemic-era box office record
While the box office has finally started to rebound after far too long in the doldrums, almost every single movie that can be called a certifiable hit is a big budget franchise-driven blockbuster, with independent cinema still struggling to gain a commercial foothold.
Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci scored a $14 million three-day weekend and $22 million five-day holiday frame, but that was still more than enough to see it score the highest-grossing debut for a straightforward drama since Greta Gerwig’s Little Women hit theaters in December 2019.

A gripping legal drama is making a solid case on streaming
Director Destin Daniel Cretton admitted he had concerns over helming Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings when his background was almost exclusively in low budget drama, before a conversation with Black Panther‘s Ryan Coogler swayed his decision.
The filmmaker’s previous movie before boarding the biggest game in town saw him tackle the true-life tale of Walter McMillan, who enlisted the help of a young and unproven defense attorney to overturn his murder conviction. The end result was Just Mercy, a moving portrait of a flawed justice system and the effort it takes to right a serious wrong.

James Gunn roasts fan who says ‘Batman’ is better than ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’
James Gunn is one of the most Twitter-happy filmmakers out there, whether he’s trolling fans over the missing Guardians of the Galaxy Easter Egg they’ve been searching for to no avail since 2014, shutting down false rumors regarding his projects or ranking the Spider-Man movies from best to worst.
As you’d expect given his status as a public figure with an itchy Twitter finger, plenty of people try and get a rise out of him by deliberately trying to rile him up. Obviously, the fact that he was initially fired from Vol. 3 for tweets he made a decade previously means that he’s learned his lesson to keep controversy as far away from his social media as possible.

James Gunn celebrates Karen Gillan’s birthday with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ BTS images
Fans were shocked when the Guardians of the Galaxy cast made their first appearance as a unit at 2013’s San Diego Comic-Con, which culminated in Karen Gillan whipping off a wig to reveal that she’d shaved her head completely bald to get into character as Nebula.
However, the actress has since resorted to the standard bald cap for each of her subsequent appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is just as well because it would be a real hindrance to her career outside of the superhero series were she to wait on her long locks growing back before signing on to another project.
