James Gunn Reveals Which Comics Influenced The Suicide Squad
Whenever a new superhero movie begins production, the comic book readers among us can’t help wondering which tales influenced the filmmakers. More often than not, writers and directors merely pull inspiration from various stories rather than strictly adapting one specific work. And based on the information recently brought to life, The Suicide Squad will be no different.
If you’ve already seen 2016’s Suicide Squad – and you probably have – then you should be aware of how David Ayer factored several different runs into his goulash of sorts. Though the John Ostrander era was there to thank, it became obvious how much Ayer looked to the New 52. After all, his inclusion of Harley Quinn and Diablo owed thanks to those books, not to mention nods to the Kicked in the Teeth arc.
James Gunn, however, may be even more eclectic in this sense. In a recent Instagram discussion, which you can view below, he admitted that while he did take more modern books into account, a lot of his flick will pay respect to what Ostrander and Kim Yale did back in the 1980’s.
Actually, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given how Gunn’s social media reveal of the film’s full cast made use of the same font utilized by those very comics published during the ’80s. Still, I wouldn’t doubt it if he’s been reading some New 52 and Rebirth material because, again, we have Harley Quinn in the mix.
Now that you have this knowledge at your disposal, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to head to either your local comic shop, bookstore or library to begin boning up before the movie arrives. Come to think of it, now is a good time to mention that DC is launching a new Suicide Squad series this December, as it’ll reunite the Injustice creative team of writer Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo.
The Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 6th, 2021.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Promo Shot Separates Darkness From Light
If The Last Jedi proved one thing, it’s that there exists a tangible connection between Kylo Ren and Rey.
They’re sworn enemies, of course, with one coached under the watchful eye of the Resistance, while the other is essentially the prince of darkness, having defected from Han and Leia to spearhead the First Order. But we wouldn’t be all that surprised to see Kylo and Rey’s Force bond explored further this Christmas with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Speaking of which, a new promo shot for Episode IX has arrived hot off the presses. It features those two central characters wielding their respective lightsabers – Rey with the sky-blue; Kylo with the by-now infamous crossguard ‘saber. No sign of the double-edged lightsaber seen in the most recent trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, which teased a possible turn to the Dark Side for Daisy Ridley’s hero.
Fear not, though; there’s reason to believe Dark Rey is the product of Palpatine, who reportedly projects some sort of Force vision (or dream) in an effort to court Rey over to the Dark Side of the Force. Whether it has much of an effect on the budding Jedi master is another question entirely, though we’re quietly confident that Mark Hamill’s Force ghost will be able to keep our Resistance hero on the straight and narrow. She’ll need all the help she can get, too, what with reports suggesting that Emperor Palpatine will tout an entire fleet of Death Stars in The Rise of Skywalker.
Should that be true, well, the odds of survival may well be seven hundred an–you know what, don’t tell us the odds. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker takes flight on December 20th. And you won’t want to miss it.

Marvel Rumored To Be Introducing A Female Ghost Rider Into The MCU
We know Marvel Studios is actively exploring a possible route to bring Ghost Rider into the MCU.
Johnny Blaze and the fabled Cosmic Ghost Rider have already been tipped for the über-franchise, but a new rumor is circulating today which suggests the Powers That Be currently have their eyes trained on Bella Thorne, star of Paradise City and the Scream TV series, to play a gender-swapped Ghost Rider – Alejandra Jones, in all likelihood.
Now, before we wade into the weeds, let us begin by clarifying that this is little more than a 4Chan rumor, and should be treated as such. The fate of Ghost Rider is still up in the air, particularly in the wake of Hulu’s cancellation of the doomed live-action series. Nevertheless, this tidbit suggests Bella Thorne’s Ghost Rider will hail from a different universe entirely when she is briefly introduced in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Perhaps more than any other MCU film before it, the Doctor Strange sequel looks set to indulge in alternate timelines and musings over what could be, so if there was ever a window to name-drop a female Ghost Rider, this is it.
With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it feels as though the shackles are really off; Scott Derrickson and his team have likely been given the keys to a very big (and very confusing) sandbox, where the laws of time and space have no meaning. Besides, now that Avengers: Endgame has effectively cemented the Quantum Realm’s place in the MCU, there’s no telling what Marvel Studios has planned for Phase 4… and beyond.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on this Bella Throne tidbit as more information comes to light though, so be sure to stay tuned.

Elgato makes an extendable rigging system for streamers and creators
Earlier this year, Elgato announced a lighting rig that can attach to a desk so YouTube creators, Twitch streamers, and other online content makers can more easily light their home setups.
Today, Elgato is taking that idea a step further by announcing the Multi Mount, an extendable, multi-purpose rigging system creators can use for their lighting, cameras, mics, or whatever they want to mount.
The basic $49.99 Multi Mount can be extended all the way up to 45 inches, clamps to a desk, and has a center ball head with a one-fourth inch screw that you can mount gear on.
If you want to pay for more accessories, you can make the Multi Mount do more: a $39.99 “flex arm” that can bend at three different spots...

The NBA 2K League expands beyond the NBA with new Shanghai team
The NBA 2K League kicked off in 2018 with an interesting premise: a group of professional teams, each affiliated with an NBA squad, playing a virtual rendition of the sport. Now, after two seasons, the league is looking to expand beyond the NBA with a new club based in Shanghai. The Chinese team will be the first in the league based outside of North America and the first not operated by an NBA team.
The currently unnamed squad will be owned and operated by Gen.G, a multigame e-sports organization that currently has teams in PUBG, Fortnite, League of Legends, and also owns the Seoul Dynasty of the Overwatch League. The Shanghai team will join the league in 2020, and it will be based out of Gen.G’s Los Angeles office. Like all other 2K L...

YouTube just made it way easier for creators to search and filter comments
YouTube has introduced an updated filtering system for managing comment sections, with the goal of making it easier for creators to find questions and separate comments by subscriber count.
Creators can receive thousands upon thousands of comments on their videos, making a robust filter system instrumental for engaging with viewers. A better search system is the top feature request the company gets from creators, according to YouTube’s blog post on the subject published earlier today. The new filtering options now list include:
- Response status: has the creator already responded to this comment?
- Contains question: does the comment contain a question?
- Subscriber count: does the commenter have at least 1,000, 10,000, 100,000, one...
