Though Chloé Zhao’s The Eternals is still just over ten months away from reaching theaters, it seems that Marvel was subtly teasing this year’s cosmic MCU adventure at least as far back as 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.
This new find comes courtesy of Reddit user Initial_XD, who spotted a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it reference to Jack Kirby’s run on The Eternals just floating around in the background of Taika Waititi’s film. In the still below, you’ll notice a green ship to the right of Valkyrie that bears a clear resemblance to a design from the comics.
Perhaps this inclusion was meant as nothing more than a fan-pleasing Easter egg, though it also wouldn’t be the first time a seemingly inconsequential reference has quietly foreshadowed bigger things in the MCU. For all we know, this might be the only time we ever see this quirky-looking vessel on our screens, but feel free to speculate that it means something more.
In any case, while subtle little Easter eggs are all well and good, Marvel will eventually have to be a lot more direct in promoting their next big property. At the moment, the MCU marketing is all about Black Widow, but once that film drops on May 1st, The Eternals will be the next movie on the agenda, and right now, your average filmgoer could probably tell you next to nothing about this particular corner of the comic book universe.
Of course, we only need to look to the Guardians of the Galaxy movies to know that Disney is fully capable of turning one of Marvel’s lesser known properties into a major blockbuster series, but we’ll see if Kevin Feige and his team can repeat this success when The Eternals hits theaters on November 6th.

Two of our favorite time travelers are set to return in this year’s Bill & Ted Face the Music, the third installment of the franchise, following its predecessors Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991).
One of the new additions to the upcoming 2020 film is the inclusion of the main characters’ daughters and today, we’ve got a newly-released image which showcases Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted Logan meeting up with none other than their own flesh and blood.
The groovin’ and movin’ family has expanded and Bill and Ted’s daughters plan on aiding them in their latest venture through time and space. From their humble beginnings in that cramped, stuffy garage, the two buds have been through a lot. They have plenty of tales to tell and songs to sing, but the world needs them once again.
You see, a messenger from the future shows up and informs the two jammin’ heroes that their music has to be used to save humanity. Prompted by the news of this responsibility, Bill and Ted set out to save the world and fulfill a prophecy.
As they zip through history, confront Death (again) and bump into a handful of other notable figures, their daughters are there to help them on their way. The young ladies take after their dads in more ways than one as well, with Bill’s daughter Thea taking her name after Ted and Ted’s daughter Billie likewise getting her name from Bill.
Keanu Reeves, who’s gained new notoriety after starring in the recent John Wick franchise, reprises his role as Ted, while Alex Winter returns as Bill and William Sadler’s back as Death. Elsewhere, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) portrays Thea and Brigette Lundy-Paine (The Glass Castle) plays Billie.
It’s now been close to three decades since we’ve seen Bill and Ted in action and with the hype now starting to build as more and more looks at the film are being revealed, we’re beyond eager to find out what they’ve been up to. And we’ll get to do just that when Bill & Ted Face the Music arrives on August 21st, 2020.
With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker proving to be not everything fans hoped it would, there’s an increasing call for Disney to release a director’s cut of the movie, following stories of Lucasfilm heavily meddling with J.J. Abrams’ vision for Episode IX. Things reached a peak earlier this week when fans got #ReleaseTheJJCut trending on Twitter and now, one of the film’s stars is jumping aboard the bandwagon.
Dominic Monaghan joined the Star Wars universe in Rise as Beaumont Kin, a member of the Resistance. Though he admits that he wasn’t a major part of the production, the former Lost star knows firsthand just how much additional footage was shot that never made it into the theatrical version of the movie. As he told The Hollywood Reporter, this is why he’s fully behind the idea of an Abrams cut.
“Like a lot of Star Wars fans, I’m hoping there will be a director’s cut so we’ll get to see more and more of the stuff that was filmed. I wasn’t there all the time, but even in the short time that I was there, there was so much stuff filmed that didn’t make it to the theatrical version… Oh, man, there was so much stuff!”
When asked for more specific details on the unused material he’s aware of, Monaghan pleaded the fifth, but he did promise there’s some amazing stuff that fans haven’t seen yet. And the actor hopes at least some of it will make its way onto the DVD/Blu-ray release in a few months’ time.
“I think this is probably more of a question for [director] J.J. [Abrams] because Star Wars is such a geek fest, obsessive thing that you don’t want to start revealing Easter eggs too soon. But, I remember texting J.J. at the end of certain days and saying, ‘Oh my God, I can’t wait to see that.’ It was just extraordinary to even just be involved in that scene, and unfortunately, with the time constraints, they didn’t make it or they changed things around. So, I’m hoping that if and when the DVD comes out that maybe they’ll add extras or they’ll have deleted, additional scenes.”
It’s a fact that Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy enforced a few ideas of her on TROS, including the inclusion of Palpatine. It’s reported that this led to a lot of head-butting between the director and the producer, with the studio vetoing many of his wishes – such as a Finn and Poe romance. We also know that Disney nixed this thanks to Oscar Isaac not holding back.
Obviously, major changes like this were surely never filmed, but like Monaghan says, a whole lot was, so there must be the makings of a superior version of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker out there and right now, it looks like we might have another “Snyder Cut” campaign on our hands soon.
The dead speak! Or, more accurately, the cut characters speak!
As most of us saw recently, Rose Tico was hardly in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which some people see as Disney catering to the louder critics of the divisive Last Jedi. Now, we’re hearing from Kelly Marie Tran herself that Rose was definitely supposed to be in more than 76 seconds of the film, and was actually supposed to do something during the final battle.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tran was asked about all things Star Wars, from hugging Chewie to Canto Blight. Most pertinent to Rise of Skywalker though was her response to working on the massive Battle of Exegol, with the actress saying:
Yeah, it was probably one of the biggest sets I had ever been on. It was incredible to see what the stunt teams did. It was also insane to be running across this platform — which I know you only see for a second in the movie — but we shot it so many times. I remember having bruises on my knees the next day because we kept running and then we would fall onto our knees and do some more shooting stuff. I don’t think that’s in the movie. It was definitely organized chaos as stormtroopers were flying, people were on horses…. It was pretty insane.
We already knew about the huge edits that the pic went through and we’re now hearing rumors of inner turmoil at the House of Mouse as well, with creators, producers and fans all unhappy for different reasons. A fair amount of people are very upset at the lack of Rose in Skywalker, though, and understandably so.
Personally, I’m just really let down that, instead of trying to give her more depth to assuage deeper complaints about her character that they just chickened out and cut her completely, for the most part. Cowards, all of em!
Am I a huge Rose stan? Not particularly. In hindsight, while I still don’t like decent chunks or aspects of The Last Jedi, at least it did try some interesting stuff. It was more emotional than this last one, too, which rang almost entirely hollow for yours truly. Why add new stuff when you can develop all the rich content you already have at your disposal? “Nah screw it just throw the Emperor back in there,” is what we imagine Lucasfilm said. And it resulted in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker closing out the saga with a whimper rather than a bang.
