Fans try to defend a record-breaking blockbuster that still failed miserably

If you ever need concrete evidence as to why the video game genre is regularly labeled as cursed, then look no further than the fact the two most recent movies to hold the title of highest-grossing console-to-screen adaptation ever made both ended up losing money. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time even held onto the record for six years before Warcraft arrived, and yet neither of them turned a single penny of profit during their respective theatrical runs.

It was blatantly obvious that producer Jerry Bruckheimer viewed the would-be franchise as his next Pirates of the Caribbean, albeit set in sandier climes, but even a $336 million haul at the box office wasn’t enough to prevent Mike Newell’s $200 million adventure from ending up in the red once Disney had crunched the numbers.

Streaming crowds haunted by a classic hailing from a horror dream team

Everyone knows that any sort of success in the horror genre will lead to the title in question being sequelized, rebooted, reinvented, and rebranded until the end of time, but the expanded Creepshow franchise has arguably never gotten any better than the 1982 original.

Naturally, that’s to be expected when king of the zombie movie George A. Romero directed five short films based on stories written by Stephen King, which is a gruesome twosome if ever there was one. Unsurprisingly, the majority of attempts to recapture the magic of “Father’s Day”, “The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill”, “Something to Tide You Over”, “The Crate”, and “They’re Creeping Up on You!” haven’t come close, but it’s not for a lack of trying.

Linda Hamilton had an ‘existential crisis’ shooting brutal bomb ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’

The last time Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Cameron, and Linda Hamilton worked together on a movie, the end result was one of the greatest blockbusters in the history of cinema, one that ranks as an all-time classic in both the sci-fi and action genres. With that in mind, it’s little wonder everyone was so hyped for their reunion in Terminator: Dark Fate, but things couldn’t have gone much worse.

While Deadpool director Tim Miller’s direct sequel to Judgement Day did land some of the best reviews the franchise had seen in almost 30 years, a catastrophic box office performance ultimately saw the sixth installment in the series lose upwards of $120 million for Paramount. In the years since, Miller has admitted that he dropped the ball big time, and Hamilton agrees.
