Marvel Studios Explains The Difference Between The Blip And The Snap
With a hero/villain as fantastic as Mysterio, fans knew they were in for something special when Spider-Man: Far From Home came to theaters. Mind-bending plot twists, action, romance…it has it all. The second of (possibly) nine Spider-Man flicks also introduced the world to two new catchphrases. We’ve already got the new Spidey-sense, Peter Tingle covered, but the Blip is the one that needs some explaining.
As all fans of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame know, the big event where Thanos wipes out half the universe has always been called the Snap. That’s in the Mad Titan-less real world. In the MCU, a new name has come out of the ashes: the Blip. In FFH, that’s what the kids in Peter’s high school are calling the tragedy.
During a recent chat with Fandango, Marvel Studios’ big man Kevin Feige has come forth with an explanation of the difference between the two. The interviewer asked him about the term, inquiring about where it came from and if the naming of it came fast for Feige. His response?
“It came pretty fast. We always referred to it as the Blip, and then the public started referring to it as the Snap. We think it’s funny when high school kids just call this horrific, universe-changing event the Blip.”
He then continued, explaining how one term was for the disappearances, and the other was for when they came back.
“We’ve narrowed it down to, the Snap is when everybody disappeared at the end of Infinity War. The Blip is when everybody returned at the end of Endgame…and that is how we have narrowed in on the definitions.”
So, there you have it. Having just seen the movie Saturday night with my kids, I was under the assumption that fans would have to start referring to Thanos’ Snapture as the Blip, but it looks like we’re still good.
Only time will tell if Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s Peter Tingle and the Blip become a thing in the real world or not, but personally, I’m pretty tired of “ghosting,” a word that was used quite a bit in the film. Maybe blipping will become the hip, new way to ignore people? Fingers crossed.

Disney’s Freeform Slams Racist Trolls Over The Little Mermaid Backlash
You’d think humanity would be better than this by now. MJ and Flash Thompson are no longer white in the MCU, and nobody cares. We had our first black president, and everything worked out just fine. Will Smith even nailed it as the Genie in Aladdin. But here we are again and now, even The Little Mermaid isn’t safe.
This time, the completely unnecessary controversy is surrounding Halle Bailey. She’s the talented actress who plays Skylar Forster in Grown-ish, the spinoff of ABC’s Black-ish. If her name’s unfamiliar to you though, that’s all about to change, as Disney has cast the African-American youngster as Ariel in their upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
Many celebs and websites have shown their support for the actress, including Disney’s TV channel Freeform, and in response to all the haters online who can’t seem to get behind Bailey as Ariel, they’ve posted the following message:
An open letter to the Poor, Unfortunate Souls:#TheLittleMermaid #Ariel #MyAriel pic.twitter.com/XYJSXKt2BU
— Freeform (@FreeformTV) July 6, 2019
As unfortunate as it is, the backlash we’re seeing is more or less expected these days. Sites are running articles covering the hashtag #NotMyAriel and it’s going a little nuts on the trending charts right now. A quick scan through the Twitterverse though will show you that the majority of the usage is coming from people who are mad about all these people who are allegedly mad that Ariel isn’t white.
In other words, it would seem the media is inflating the severity of the backlash. Despite that, and only being able to count on two or three hands the number of actual racist tweets there are, a little racism is still racism, and it’s ugly.
At the moment, Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid is set to begin filming in early 2020 and though this backlash is unlikely to die down anytime soon, you can always get away from it by checking out some Halle Bailey Ariel fan art, or how Idris Elba might look as King Triton. Now that’s a casting choice we’re sure everyone can get behind, right?

Disney Fans Are Absolutely Loving The First Mulan Trailer
Disney, more than usual, seems to be dominating the internet lately. The reasons range from controversial to roaringly good, but we’re here to give you some of the latter.
The first trailer for the live-action remake of Mulan has hit the web today and with it, some of our favorite things: fan reactions. Unlike the pot-stirring casting of Halle Bailey (nope, still not Berry), fans of the original Mulan are in for a controversy-less treat. The fact that Mushu, hopefully still being voiced by Kevin Hart, wasn’t present is sure to kick up a little dust, but overall, this is a clean little teaser that sticks to the original animated tale. And the fans seems to agree.

You and me both, Jared. You and me both.
The reports that Li Shang won’t be in the remake already made waves last year when the news broke and there’ll be no doubt even more motion in that ocean before the film’s 2020 release. After all, Disney gave us an unintentional hero to the bisexual community with their 1998 animated hit, with many fans pointing out how Shang looked at Mulan the same way he looked at Ping, her male alter-ego.
From what we understand, the story is set to somewhat follow the original, with the exception of a few things. For one, Mulan will go by Hua Jun when she poses as a man, not Ping. And instead of getting the hots for Shang, she’ll fall in love with rival soldier Chen Honghui, played by Yoson An. Taking Shang’s place (only as commander), meanwhile, will be Commander Tung, played by Donnie Yen. And what epic tale about a young Chinese maiden would be complete without Jet Li, who’ll star as the Emperor.
