Netflix Just Added One Of Michael B. Jordan’s Best Movies

Before Michael B. Jordan became an international superstar in mega hits like the Creed series and Marvel’s Black Panther, he starred in the equally heartbreaking and eye-opening biographical drama Fruitvale Station. If you’ve never had a chance to see the emotional film, you won’t have to do much to seek it out and give it a watch, as it’s just landed on Netflix this week.

Ryan Coogler’s feature directorial debut is based on the events that led to the tragic 2009 death of a young Oakland man at Fruitvale Station. Jordan plays the role of Oscar Grant during the last day of his life, with the movie told through a series of flashbacks that show his struggles with living clean and doing the right thing by his family.

The pic scored an impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and most critics agreed that Jordan’s performance was utterly mesmerizing and powerful, with some even likening his acting to that of a young Denzel Washington. It went on to be nominated for dozens of awards and won quite a few of them, too.

Fruitvale Station

It goes without saying that Fruitvale Station may make for an important watch during a time when racial injustice is once again a major talking point in the wake of the murder of citizens like George Floyd and Breonna Taylor earlier this year, both of which have incited significant protests across the country.

If you’re looking for something light-hearted, of course, this movie isn’t going to scratch that itch in the slightest. That said, you can always head over here and take a look at some of the other stuff coming to Netflix throughout the remainder of November. But if you’re up for some heavy drama, Fruitvale Station is as good a choice as any.

Amber Heard Breaks The Silence On Aquaman 2, Slams Online Petitions

Fans have been petitioning for a long time to see Amber Heard replaced with someone else in James Wan’s upcoming Aquaman 2. But now that Johnny Depp has lost his libel case against The Sun and also his role in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, they’re more adamant than ever that Warner Bros. remove his ex-wife from the film.

Of course, to date, all we’ve heard about the company’s plans for the actress has been nothing more than disperse hearsay. That hasn’t stopped folks online, though, as the petition to have her fired from the hugely anticipated sequel has almost reached a million signatures. But as is often the case, it seems the plea will fall on deaf ears, as Heard has now broken the silence on the situation and confirmed that she’ll definitely be back for Aquaman 2.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, here’s what the actress had to share:

“I’m super excited about the amount of fan love and the amount of fan appreciation that Aquaman has acquired and that it has garnered so much excitement for Aquaman and Mera that it means we’ll be coming back,” Heard tells EW. “I’m so excited to film that.”

She also addressed the aforementioned petition, saying that it has “no basis in reality” and that she’s excited to get started working on the sequel in 2021.

“Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality,” she added. “Only the fans actually made Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I’m excited to get started next year.”

Obviously, even if there were discussions taking place to have Heard removed from the film, it’s not like the actress would divulge that. But we’ll take her at her word here until the studio says otherwise.

That doesn’t mean that they still won’t reduce her role in the movie or possibly get rid of her after Aquaman 2, as both of those options have been rumored to be in play. For the time being, though, it seems Amber Heard will indeed return for James Wan’s sequel. No matter how large that petition ends up growing.

But tell us, do you think the actress should be invited back for the pic? Sound off in the usual place and let us know.

Sean Connery’s Widow Reveals The James Bond Star’s Final Wish

Movie icon Sean Connery died late last month at the ripe old age of 90. The The Rock, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and Zardoz star was a Hollywood titan, drawing huge audiences, working with the best directors of all time (who else worked with Alfred Hitchcock and Michael Bay?) and picking up a well deserved Oscar for his performance as Jim Malone in The Untouchables. But it’s his tenure as James Bond that made him a star: he starred in seven 007 films between 1962 and 1983 and turned the character into a pop culture colossus.

In the wake of his death we learned that Connery had been suffering dementia in the last years of his life and that he went out peacefully in his sleep. Now Michelle Roquebrune, who Connery was married to for 40 years has revealed his last request. According to an interview with her in Metro:

“We are going to bring Sean back to Scotland – that was his final wish. He wanted his ashes to be scattered in the Bahamas and also in his homeland.”

In addition, the Connery family has plans to hold a memorial service in Scotland, though are waiting for the COVID-19 restrictions to lift before doing so. As one of Scotland’s favorite sons this makes perfect sense. Despite spending his old age in the Bahamas he was always had Scotland in mind and was a prominent supporter of Scottish independence from the United Kingdom.

He was famously a longtime member of the Scottish National Party (where, apparently by coincidence, he was member 007). Connery went on to financially support them  from the Bahamas, only stopping when the law was changed to prevent overseas funding of political parties. Scotland’s First Minister and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon said she was “heartbroken” when she learned of his death, and paid tribute to him:

“Sean was a global legend but, first and foremost, he was a patriotic and proud Scot. His towering presence at the opening of the Scottish Parliament was a sign of his dedication to his country. He was a lifelong advocate of an independent Scotland and those of us who share that belief owe him a great debt of gratitude.”

In the meantime, fans are launching a campaign to rename Edinburgh Airport after Sean Connery, with the petition already having picked up thousands of signatures.

RIP Sean Connery 1930-2020

Star Wars Reveals When Palpatine Learned Luke Was Anakin’s Son

The new Star Wars book that celebrates the 40th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back reveals when Palpatine finally figured out that Luke was Darth Vader’s son.

As we know, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Master Yoda, and the remaining Republic loyalists went into a lot of trouble to hide the circumstances in which Padme Amidala died. The sole reason was to keep the supposedly Force-sensitive twins, Luke and Leia, from the Emperor’s reach. As such, neither Palpatine nor Vader knew about the identity of the Rebel Alliance hero who blew up the Death Star until The Empire Strikes Back.

Of course, other canon sources have confirmed that the former Chosen One learned about Luke soon after the events of A New Hope, though according to the latest revelation in From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back, which retells the events of the film from the perspective of other characters, the apprentice kept this information from his master.

In the chapter dedicated to Darth Sidious, we see the dark lord moments before he summons Vader to discuss Luke, witnessing several disturbances in the Force. One of them, in particular, shows him a vision; Vader’s fantasy of overthrowing Palpatine, but instead of being in his black suit and respirator, he appears as a much older Anakin with Padme and Luke by his side, the latter of whom strikes down the Emperor.

It is here when Palpatine finally learns the truth. He also acknowledges that while Vader’s relentless hunt for the Rebel Alliance leadership may have been a little over the top, it now made more sense since the apprentice was looking for a way to overthrow Sidious.

The recent tie-in Star Wars book also reveals that as Palpatine talks to Vader about Luke, he senses his “struggle to control his desires,” confirming his suspicions that the seemingly loyal apprentice is indeed hatching schemes of his own.

George Lucas Could’ve Introduced Baby Yoda In His Star Wars Sequel Trilogy

If George Lucas had stuck around to produce his Star Wars Sequel Trilogy or even hadn’t sold the franchise to Disney in the first place, things would’ve turned out very differently for the last three movies in the Skywalker Saga.

As diehard fanatics of the galaxy far, far away will tell you, the creator had plans to produce another trilogy when he was done with the Prequels, a story taking place years after the Battle of Endor and depicting the heroes of the Rebellion in the age of the New Republic. Now, a new book that compiles interviews and details about the production cycle of the Prequel Trilogy, titled The Star Wars Archives: Episodes I-III 1999-2005, has revealed a lot of things about Lucas’ planned treatments for the continuation of the story.

This new narrative would depict Princess Leia’s struggles to establish the New Republic and fight the insurgence of Darth Maul and his galaxy-wide crime syndicate. That’s right, the Sith Lord-gone-rogue, alongside his apprentice Darth Talon, would’ve served as the Sequel Trilogy’s main villain. But what’s interesting here is that the interview also reveals Master Luke Skywalker’s storyline, explaining his search to find “two and three-year-olds” and train a new generation of Jedi.

While it’s certainly a stretch of the imagination, it’s not completely unreasonable to assume that George Lucas would’ve brought the Child into his trilogy. After all, Yoda became one with the Force in Return of the Jedi, and what better way to commemorate his character than creating a new character in the same mysterious species as him?

Another thing that gives this theory credibility, meanwhile is the creator’s inclination to incorporate child-friendly elements into the story. The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy demonstrated this via Jar Jar Binks and an adolescent Anakin Skywalker. So, perhaps that’s what he was aiming at with Luke’s storyline in the Sequel Trilogy as well.

Catwoman Will Reportedly Be In Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Zack Snyder loves to tease fans over what’s coming in HBO Max’s Justice League revamp. Just this week, the director has given us a glimpse of the movie’s Martian Manhunter and he’s even dropped a hint that none other than Catwoman could appear in the Snyder Cut. We previously hadn’t heard anything about this, but the filmmaker recently shared a comic book panel of Batman and Selina Kyle in a romantic embrace on his Vero account. That’s got to mean something.

Following this, We Got This Covered reached out to our sources and we have heard that, yes, Catwoman will reportedly appear in some capacity in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. This intel comes from the same place as much accurate DCEU info in the past – including our report that the Snyder Cut was happening in the first place. We don’t know exactly how Selina will factor into the film as yet, but BatCat fans will be pleased to know she’ll show up somewhere.

What with reshoots going on behind closed doors, Snyder is making the most of his opportunity to expand his movie. It’s been confirmed that he’s brought back Jared Leto as the Joker, alongside Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke, so a bunch of Gotham’s most notorious residents will be appearing in the flick. As we’re not hearing any news on a Catwoman casting, it could be that she’ll turn up for a brief cameo, with a stand-in in her iconic catsuit, but that’s just conjecture at this time.

Obviously, it won’t be Zoe Kravitz in the part, seeing as she’s busy working on The Batman in the U.K. and Matt Reeves’ movie is part of a completely different continuity. Getting in Ben Affleck’s real-life partner Ana de Armas as Selina would be fun, but that seems unlikely for this project. Hey, maybe that could happen in Justice League 2, if that actually gets the greenlight.

With more and more DC icons due to appear in it, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is becoming the gift that keeps on giving. We’ll finally see it on HBO Max sometime in the first half of 2021.
