Nintendo Switch update lets you transfer game downloads to an SD card

Photo by James Bareham / The Verge

The Nintendo Switch’s 10.0.0 firmware update, which is available now, adds the ability for you to transfer your downloaded games directly from system memory to an SD card, or vice versa, to free up storage. The update also allows you to remap buttons on your controller and illustrate your user profile from a new collection of new Animal Crossing: New Horizons icons.

Transferring data directly between the console’s internal and external memory is a feature people have been asking for for a while. Previously, if you filled up your internal storage and you wanted to offload games and updates to an SD card, then your only option was to redownload them. This new feature should make it much quicker and more convenient. According to the patch...

The $579 RedMagic 5G is the first phone with a 144Hz display

You can’t claim to be a flagship phone in 2020 without having a high-refresh-rate display, and a new benchmark has now been set. RedMagic, a sub-brand of ZTE sub-brand Nubia, is putting its latest gaming phone up for global pre-order today, making the RedMagic 5G the first phone you’ll be able to buy with a 144Hz screen. That’s the standard refresh rate for high-end PC gaming monitors.

The screen is a large 6.65-inch 1080p OLED panel, and the RedMagic 5G feels even larger than that spec suggests due to the slight bezels up top and bottom. They’re pretty unobtrusive, though — think Galaxy S8 kind of size — and they mean the phone has no notch or hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera, which is definitely a plus for gaming.

Cate Blanchett Reportedly Eyed For Villain Role In The Flash Movie

The Flash movie just can’t seem to catch a break. The troubled production has gone through multiple screenwriters and directors and if that wasn’t enough, star Ezra Miller is in serious hot water after a video surfaced last week of him choking a fan.

His future as the titular superhero is now in doubt. The Flash could use some good news and according to our sources – the same ones who said Viola Davis would be returning for The Suicide Squad and that Black Mask would be gay in Birds of Prey – Cate Blanchet is being eyed to play the villain in the movie.

She would play Mirror Master, a character described as someone with considerable technical expertise and skills involving the use of mirrors. Mirror Master can use mirrors to produce effects such as hypnotism, invisibility, holograms and the ability to travel through dimensions.

The character sounds like a cross between Mysterio and Doctor Strange for all of you Marvel fans. To no surprise, the character is usually a man. However, the villain is played by a woman, Efrat Dor, on The Flash television series.

It doesn’t really matter if it’s a man or a woman for two-time Oscar winner Blanchett. She’s already played a man in a movie. Presumably, her version of the character would be female. Based on her work as Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, this casting would be a no brainer.

Blanchett seems to have had a wonderful time making Ragnarok and she isn’t afraid to jump from serious dramas to fun blockbusters.

But the potential for adding the actress is perhaps moot at this point following Miller’s incident last week. Andy Muschetti is currently the director attached to bring The Flash to the big screen and he and Warner Bros. may end up writing Barry Allen out of the movie entirely and instead focus on a Wally West story arc.

Miller’s time as the character may soon be over. But the potential to add an actor of Blanchett’s caliber is the sort of injection this production could use.

James Gunn Reveals That Baby Groot Dropped 50 F-Bombs In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

Baby Groot may be adorable, but he’s a mean little critter, too. He takes out his fair share of Ravagers alongside Yondu and Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2and we know he’s a got a dirty mouth. When Rocket translates for him towards the end of the film, he tells Yondu “Welcome to the frickin’ Guardians of the Galaxy. Only he didn’t use frickin.” The raccoon then speaks to his young pal and says, “We need to have a real talk about your language.”

It seems Baby Groot’s love of cursing goes even deeper than we realized, though. As part of a discussion about the use of F-words in PG-13 movies with fans on Twitter, Guardians director James Gunn joked – we think – that Groot “drops about 50 f-bombs in Guardians 2.”

It’s a fact that Gunn writes out Groot’s dialogue in English before switching it to “We Are Groot” and variations thereof. Voice actor Vin Diesel is then the only other person who gets to see the English version of Groot’s dialogue so that he can say his lines with the right attitude and meaning behind it. And apparently, most of the time Baby Groot speaks in the sequel he was dropping the F-bomb.

Groot retains his swearing ways into his teenage years, too. In Avengers: Infinity War, Groot snaps back at Star-Lord when Quill gives him an order, causing all the Guardians to react in shock at whatever it was he said. He may have grown up a little given his tough experiences in Infinity War and Endgame, though, so we’ll have to see whether he still has this trait in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Speaking of which, Gunn recently confirmed that plans for the threequel haven’t changed despite the MCU Phase 4’s sliding schedule. It’ll be a while away, then, but the follow-up to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is definitely coming. F**k yeah.
