It’s safe to say Cyclops didn’t get the respect he deserved in the Fox X-Men movies. From the 2000 original onwards, he was the straight-laced butt of the joke, with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine taking every available opportunity to clown on him and flirt with Jean Grey right under his nose.

The low point came in X-Men: The Last Stand. Actor James Marsden had taken a role in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns over at Warner Bros., and so in a supremely catty retaliatory move, Fox unceremoniously killed off Cyclops in the first act. He went on to reprise the role in Days of Future Past, with Tye Sheridan stepping in to don the visor in Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, but the character never got his deserved moment in the spotlight.

Every time Emily Blunt gets asked a question about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you can almost see her dying just a little bit more on the inside. If things had gone according to plan, the actress would have reported for duty in the superhero franchise over a decade ago, but the widely-panned Gulliver’s Travels got in the way.

Blunt was the first choice to play Natasha Romanoff in Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2, but due to a contractual obligation she had with 20th Century Fox, the studio essentially didn’t leave her any option but to turn down the part of Black Widow. To be fair, it’s not as if The Devils Wear Prada star has been shy about her feelings on the film she ended up making instead, with “I didn’t want to do Gulliver’s Travels” the exact words to have come out of her mouth.

‘Ant-Man 3’ promo art reveals Cassie Lang’s rather uninspiring superhero name

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be the first major MCU release of 2023, and looks set to conclude the pint-sized trilogy in style. This will also be the first film of Marvel Studios’ Phase Five, with Jonathan Major’s villainous Kang the Conqueror set to wreak havoc across the whole universe for the next year or two.

Along for the ride are familiar Ant-Man faces Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfieffer, though the youngest member of the team will be a fresh one. Cassie Lang, who was a young girl in the first two Ant-Man movies and played by Emma Fuhrmann in Avengers: Endgame, will now be played by Big Little Lies and Detective Pikachu‘s Kathryn Newton.
