Labor Union President Says Disney Should Be Ashamed Over Black Widow Lawsuit
The battle between Scarlett Johansson and Disney is far from over, and while there’s been an air of mud-slinging over the accusations being tossed back and forth, the various reports to emanate in the aftermath have painted a fairly clear picture of what exactly is going on.
The actress believes she’s entitled to further remuneration after Black Widow was awarded a Disney Plus Premier Access release, causing her to miss out on performance-related bonuses that could reach as high as $50 million. The Mouse House offered a rebuttal and in effect called the two-time Academy Award nominee greedy by publicly revealing she’d already taken home $20 million from the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster.
It’s all a matter of principle of course, and the finger of blame is being pointed at Disney CEO Bob Chapek, with both his predecessor Bob Iger and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said to be dismayed over the whole situation. The Screen Actors Guild has now weighed in, with SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris offering her scathing assessment on the standoff, which you can read below.
“Disney should be ashamed of themselves for resorting to tired tactics of gender-shaming and bullying. Actors must be compensated for their work according to their contracts. Scarlett Johansson is shining a white-hot spotlight on the improper shifts in compensation that companies are attempting to slip by talent as distribution models change. Nobody in any field of work should fall victim to surprise reductions in expected compensation. It is unreasonable and unjust. Disney and other content companies are doing very well and can certainly live up to their obligations to compensate the performers whose art and artistry are responsible for the corporation’s profits.
Additionally, we are deeply concerned by the gendered tone of Disney’s criticism of Ms. Johansson. Women are not ‘callous’ when they stand up and fight for fair pay, they are leaders and champions for economic justice. Women have been victimized by pay inequity for decades, and they have been further victimized by comments like those in Disney’s press statements. These sorts of attacks have no place in our society and SAG-AFTRA will continue to defend our members from all forms of bias.”

It’s going to be interesting to see how this all pans out in the end, and what sort of domino effect it could have on talent all across Hollywood, as well as the streaming model in general. Platforms like Netflix and AppleTV+ are increasingly paying top dollar out of the gate so these disagreements don’t arise, as evidenced by the recent $200 million deal made by the latter for only the first installment of Matthew Vaughn’s planned Argylle franchise, but the Black Widow battle is far from over, and Johansson isn’t going to go down without a fight until she gets what she feels is fair compensation.

The Suicide Squad Fans Are Furious Over [SPOILERS] Death
As the name would imply, The Suicide Squad isn’t one of those superhero movies where the main characters save the world with nothing more than a few cuts and bruises. It’s right there in the title, but fans have still been shocked by the sheer volume of stars that failed to make it to the end of the opening credits, never mind the final act of the film.
It’s not as if James Gunn didn’t warn us, after the filmmaker revealed a long time ago that almost everyone dies. He certainly kept his end of the bargain, and we’re dropped right into the thick of it from the second The Suicide Squad begins, which instantly wipes out half of Task Force X in a sea of blood, bullets, exploding heads, ripped off faces, detachable arms and everything in between.
However, one death in particular appears to have stuck with people more than the rest, as social media was flooded with incredulous responses to the demise of Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag, which you can check out below.
@JamesGunn hate the movie because why would y’all kill Colonel Rick flag like that he deserves more and John cena I hate him and that why he die this made me cry and I don’t understand why y’all would do such a thing but guess I’m never going to watch these movies ever again

Kinnaman was one of very few returning stars invited back from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, and even then the actor admitted that he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to work out a myriad of scheduling conflicts to commit to the project in the first place. Evidently, a compromise was made that saw Flag taken out by John Cena’s Peacemaker just as the climax kicks into high gear, eliminating the group’s moral compass in the process.
Expect the unexpected from The Suicide Squad, and while Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn always felt like a safe bet to survive, Gunn keeps you guessing right up until the very end about the rest of the roster.

James Gunn Says That The Suicide Squad Almost Featured Superman
Following his firing by Disney from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Warner Bros. almost instantly swooped in to offer James Gunn any property of his choosing. While the studio were keen to nudge him in the direction of Superman, the filmmaker settled on The Suicide Squad instead, and the reviews would indicate it was a smart choice.
As it turns out, though, one of the earliest ideas Gunn toyed with involved pitting Task Force X against the Man of Steel, which would have been fascinating to see. In the end, we discover Idris Elba’s Bloodsport has hospitalized the Big Blue Boy Scout after shooting him with a Kryptonite bullet, but in a new interview translated from German to English, The Suicide Squad‘s architect admitted he toyed with having the team fight the all-powerful superhero.
“When I started writing The Suicide Squad, one idea was that they would fight Superman. The Suicide Squad has to catch Superman for some reason. That was all, just a vague idea. It’s gotten out of hand or is being controlled by someone. And then this group of lousy super villains has to face the most powerful hero in the world.”
It’s an intriguing prospect for a number of reasons, not least of all whether it would’ve seen Henry Cavill reprise his role as the DCEU’s canonical Superman. Recent reports have claimed the actor isn’t under contract at all, and that may have informed Gunn’s thinking as he pivoted away from the concept and onto the notion of Corto Maltese and Starro.
Another roadblock may have been the R-rating, because fans are still debating Man of Steel‘s ending that saw Kal-El snap Zod’s neck eight years ago, and given the name of the film, The Suicide Squad would have required several members of the roster to meet a grisly demise at Superman’s hands, something that would have stirred up even more debate, discussion and arguments. As it stands, everyone’s perfectly happy with what we ended up with, but maybe the pitch will circle back around eventually.
