AptX Adaptive is Qualcomm’s latest solution to bad Bluetooth audio
If you stream music from an Android phone to a pair of wireless headphones, there’s a very good chance your devices are relying on a compression algorithm known as AptX, which is supposed to squeeze high-quality sound into the limited bandwidth provided by a Bluetooth connection. But existing AptX options have their limits, so Qualcomm — the company behind AptX since 2015 — is introducing a new version that’s supposed to grow and contract the size of audio data to meet the demands of whatever and wherever you’re actually streaming.
The new version of AptX is called AptX Adaptive, and its key feature is the ability to compress audio at a variable bitrate. That means if you’re in an environment with a lot of competing wireless signals,...

Awesome Infographic Lays Out Every Record Set By Avengers: Infinity War
Much in the same manner that the Mad Titan (Josh Brolin) massacred half of all life in the universe, Avengers: Infinity War annihilated the competition at the box office and now, you can reference each and every record obliterated by the fourth biggest release of all time, courtesy of this handy, punctilious infographic (seen down below)
During a roughly four-month-long theatrical run, Avengers: Infinity War, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, amassed many a ticket booth touchstone. Most notably, the nineteenth entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe opened to an unprecedented $250 million-plus stateside and subsequently became the fastest film to reach the $1 billion plateau, which, in turn, assisted the third supergroup installment in becoming only the fourth motion picture ever to conquer the elusive $2 billion plateau – behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.06B), Titanic ($2.18B) and Avatar ($2.78B).
What’s more, the culmination of a decade-long effort to unite Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on the big screen helped the studio exceed $17 billion – and counting – hauled in at the worldwide box office. Not to mention, Marvel can now lay claim to four of the top ten highest-grossing movies of all time in the form of Black Panther ($1.34B), Age of Ultron ($1.40B), Marvel’s The Avengers ($1.51B) and, of course, Infinity War ($2.04B).
While the theatrical run of Avengers: Infinity War is undoubtedly one for the record book, the next time you’ll be able to catch the titular supergroup on the big screen – well, what’s left of them, anyway – is in Avengers 4, which is slated to be an even bigger box office smash, if you can believe it. The twenty-second MCU installment is currently scheduled for a May 3rd release next year, and we can’t wait to see the kind of numbers it pulls in.

Downton Abbey Movie Adds Seven More To Its Cast As Production Gears Up
The Crawley family is headed to the big screen, as the long-rumored Downton Abbey movie is officially a go.
That’s the news that almost brought the internet to a standstill last month, when the producers behind the series announced a summer start date and confirmed that most, if not all of the original cast – Dame Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville included – will be making their return.
Series creator Julian Fellowes is the brains behind the film’s script, and we understand he’ll co-produce this period drama alongside Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge. Plot details are practically non-existent at this early stage of the creative process, which is totally understandable, but Downton fans can at least rest assured that, yes, one of TV’s greatest ever dramas is about to receive the send-off it deserves. And not only that, but it seems as if there are going to be a heavy helping of newcomers involved.
Deadline is reporting that Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips and Stephen Campbell Moore have all boarded the project this week. Details on who they’re playing haven’t been revealed, but they’ll join what’s already a stellar ensemble, one that may make room for Dan Stevens as Matthew Crawley as well.
It’s going on three years since we bid adieu to the residents of Downton Abbey, and ever since, talk of a full-blown film has only gained more and more momentum, eventually leading us to the moment when ITV made things officially official. Brian Percival, whose credits include The Book Thief and About A Girl, and who directed the series’ pilot, will helm the feature when it premieres sometime in 2019, and as soon as we hear more from the Abbey, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Another Villain Rumored For Spider-Man: Far From Home
At this point, it’s looking increasingly likely that Marvel is rounding up a who’s who of incredible villains for Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Up first was the casting of Jake Gyllenhaal as Quentin Beck (AKA Mysterio), which came hand-in-hand with the news that Michael Keaton’s Vulture will be returning for the 2019 sequel. And that’s not all.
Not only has Numan Acar been tipped to play the Chameleon, but we’ve since learned that Far From Home may feature yet another Spidey staple – Hydro-Man. It doesn’t stop there, either, as we’re now hearing from MCU Cosmic that an additional antagonist may show up to give Peter Parker trouble as well, and he goes by the name of Mark Raxton aka Molten Man.
First appearing in Amazing Spider-Man #28, way back in 1965, Raxton’s involvement remains strictly as a rumor for now, as we understand the character was spotted as part of an upcoming LEGO set for Far From Home. Of course, we all know how often toys and merchandise seem to reveal spoilers only for them to turn out to be wrong in the end, but it’s interesting to note, as MCU Cosmic tells us, that Molten Man has connections to Spencer Smythe, another character who’s been linked with the sequel.
And while we’re on the topic of villains, another familiar face recently spotted in the UK capital where Far From Home is shooting is Jake Gyllenhaal, suggesting that the actor’s now filming his scenes for the pic. How exactly he’ll factor into the plot remains unknown at this early, early stage, but from the looks of things, this next film is likely to see Peter continue in his struggle to balance his duties as Spidey with his obligations as a student, all while keeping his identity a secret. Let’s just hope he’ll be able to handle it all when Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into theaters on July 5th, 2019.

Venom Director Says The Violence Level Will Be Pushed To The Max
Though we’re still waiting to hear news about the upcoming Venom movie’s MPAA rating, it sounds like the alien symbiote’s first standalone picture will at least offer as gruesome a spectacle as any PG-13 flick can deliver, with director Ruben Fleischer insisting that the film’s violent content will be “pushed to the hilt.”
The age rating for the Tom Hardy-led feature has been a source of sustained interest and a little concern for fans of Eddie Brock’s comic book outings as of late, since these haven’t always been the most child-friendly of escapades. While recent superhero flicks like Deadpool 2 and Logan have offered further evidence that the R-rating isn’t taboo for the genre or a dealbreaker at the box office, there’s a distinct possibility that the potential MCU connections of Fleischer’s film – not to mention the movie’s responsibility of kicking off a new cinematic universe – will result in Venom getting saddled with the more commercially appealing of the two ratings.
Nonetheless, the director assures us that the movie will succeed in carving out a distinct and appealing identity for itself, in terms of tone if not gore. Speaking to The LA Times, here’s what he had to say:
“I feel like the casting, the aesthetic and the character himself all combine to make something that just feels different. Tonally it doesn’t remind you of other movies. It doesn’t feel like we just tried to do what everyone else is doing…. The DC universe is so aggressively dark and the Marvel universe has become so light. It was kind of exciting to craft something that just felt a little bit more real and grounded and in our world.”
Indeed, a real-world film calls for a real-world performance, and Fleischer maintains in this same interview that Tom Hardy’s compellingly down-to-Earth lead turn will be another reason to check Venom out and is sure to surprise audiences. That’s certainly exciting to hear, and we’ll find out if the director can make good on this hype when the film comes out on October 5th.

Dave Bautista Auditioned For Multiple Star Wars Movies
Since stepping away from his career as a professional wrestler, Dave Bautista has found huge success as a Hollywood star, appearing in movies such as Spectre, Blade Runner 2049 and, of course, the Guardians of the Galaxy films. It turns out he could have been part of the Star Wars saga as well, though. That is, if he wasn’t rejected twice.
While speaking with Flickering Myth to promote his new movie Final Score, Bautista admitted that appearing in Star Wars would have achieved a lifelong goal, but it sadly wasn’t to be on either occasion.
“I’ve actually auditioned for a couple of Star Wars [movies] and they’ve turned me down. It was always a dream of mine to be in a Star Wars film.”
This is interesting news, as we’re curious to know which character Bautista was up for. It’s fair to say the actor’s usually cast at least partially for his hulking stature, so it stands to reason that he auditioned for a couple of roles that either ended up being, or could have been, recognizable for their size. However, none immediately spring to mind.
Perhaps things worked out in the end, though, as it turns out the man known for playing Marvel’s Drax the Destroyer isn’t a big lover of the modern entries in the Star Wars franchise anyways. However, he did enjoy at least one of them.
“I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of the latest installments. I particularly loved Rogue One. I thought it was a really great film and I love that they went a little bit dark with it. I thought it was really interesting.”
Hearing that Dave Bautista has a problem with how Disney’s treating one of its franchises is becoming a regular thing nowadays. Since the removal of director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the actor’s not held back on social media – even threatening to quit if Gunn’s script is thrown out. It’s possible that his standpoint has resulted in the stalemate that’s left Guardians 3 on hiatus, too, and it’ll be fascinating to see how the situation continues to unfurl from here.
