The Flash Movie Will Reportedly Feature 3 Versions Of Barry Allen

The latest batch of set photos to make their way online as production continues on The Flash indicated that we’re going to be getting at least a double dose of Barry Allen, after Ezra Miller was seen filming with a double. Whether or not somebody else is filling that role or the leading man is playing both remains unclear, but it’s to be expected when the Scarlet Speedster’s solo debut is hinged on the multiverse.

As you may have noticed, the idea of alternate realities is the comic book genre’s current favored storytelling device, and as long as either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or DCEU don’t run it into the ground in double quick time, the possibilities are endless. We’re now hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Ben Affleck would be back in the movie long before it was confirmed – that The Flash might even feature a third Barry Allen.

As for the identity of the actor to complete the trio of claret-clad speed freaks? According to our information it’ll be none other than Grant Gustin, finally repaying that favor after Miller dropped by the Arrowverse for a Crisis on Infinite Earths cameo. The small screen Flash has been rumored before, but this would signal that Andy Muschietti’s blockbuster is set to flit between many more timelines than just the two where Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton respectively reside as Batman.

Trying to predict any project where the multiverse is a factor is close to impossible, but visiting countless Earths and encountering a revolving door of Barry Allens provides equal scope for drama, comedy and action in The Flash, not to mention that fans would lose their minds were Gustin to show up.

Kate Beckinsale Still Wants That Underworld/Blade Crossover

This might sound a little harsh, but Kate Beckinsale is a great action star that generally tends to appear in mediocre action movies. The actress has kicked plenty of onscreen ass over the years, and is never anything less than totally watchable, but the projects that surround her tend to leave a lot to be desired.

She headlined all five entries in the Underworld franchise and was the best thing about the series by a mile, offering a steely mix of combat expertise and emotional vulnerability, but none of the vampire/werewolf mashups could be called great cinema. Similarly, she was good value in the overcooked and underwhelming Van Helsing, and appeared to be the only member of the cast having fun in the Total Recall remake.

Beckinsale proves it yet again in Amazon’s new release Jolt, which is about as formulaic as high concept action gets from both a narrative and visual perspective, but she’s an absolute riot as the violent and creatively foul-mouthed Lindy. She deserves a vehicle truly fitting of her talents, and in a new interview the 48 year-old admitted she’d still love to do the Blade crossover she was once touting for Underworld.

“I really wanted them to do an Underworld/Blade mashup. What a duo that would be. I would definitely do that, but I think they just wanted to reboot Blade as Blade so they didn’t go for it.”

Underworld: Awakening

While that almost certainly isn’t going to happen given that Wesley Snipes hasn’t suited up as the Daywalker for seventeen years, and Mahershala Ali’s Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot only just hired a director, it would have been catnip for fans of the leather-clad fantasy subgenre a decade or so ago. Ties to Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil and forgotten flop I, Frankenstein were also previously mooted for Underworld, but it looks like both the brand and Blade crossover are both dead in the water.

Watch: Batfleck Returns In New Flash Set Video And Photos

The Flash movie is finally going before cameras, and as production presses ahead on the Scarlet Speedster’s first solo movie in the UK, more and more set photos and videos are emerging, teasing the excitement that’s to come. So far, we’ve got glimpses of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne and Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen talking to himself, and these latest pics reveal what we’re pretty sure is our first look at Batfleck’s return.

We’ve known for over a year or so that Ben Affleck would be reprising his own version of the Dark Knight alongside Justice League co-star Miller in The Flash. This Monday, set pics started circulating online which depict the Caped Crusader riding the Bat-cycle through the streets (of Gotham, most likely). Though the suit is completely different from what we’ve seen him don in past DCEU films, the cut of the cowl and the overall vibe means this has to be Batfleck (or at least the actor’s stunt double).

See for yourself in the photos/video below:

This new suit seems to suggest that director Andy Muschietti is keen to put his own stamp on Ben Affleck’s Batman and not just repeat what Zack Snyder did with him in previous appearances. We’ve been told to expect a bit of a mentor/student relationship between Bruce and Barry in The Flash, though we’re currently not clear how much screentime Affleck will actually have. After all, we’re pretty sure that the bulk of the story will take place in the Keaton universe, which Barry ends up in after going back in time in an attempt to prevent his mother’s death.

But, at the very least, these photos promise that Batfleck will definitely get some action in the movie and appear in costume, which we’re not sure the mature Keaton-Bat will. Remember, as of right now, this is the last confirmed role for Affleck in the DCEU, so it’s feasible it could be the final time we see him in the franchise.

The Flash is due to race into theaters on November 4th, 2022.

Zack Snyder Says He Was Surprised By Army Of The Dead’s Success

As an active presence on both Twitter and his beloved Vero, Zack Snyder is fully aware of the fervent following generated by his work, especially when it came to his fable original vision for Justice League. While you could cynically boil the existence of HBO Max’s four-hour superhero epic down to a marketing ploy designed to cause an increase in subscriber numbers, it would have never been given the green light in the first place if the appetite wasn’t there.

The filmmaker’s output tends to be fairly polarizing among critics and general audiences, but his supporters will back him to the hilt, as evidenced by the numerous campaigns surrounding the SnyderVerse and the fact his Justice League holds the highest audience score out of any DCEU blockbuster on Rotten Tomatoes.

So, when he took his talents to Netflix and directed Army of the Dead, it was virtually guaranteed to be a massive success. The undead actioner lived up to the hype, scoring some of the best reviews of Snyder’s career and becoming one of the platform’s ten most-watched original movies ever.

However, in a recent interview he revealed the the success of the genre-bending zombie effort came as a surprise to him, despite a prequel having already been filmed before Army of the Dead was even released, as well as an animated companion series.

“We were talking to Netflix about the success so far and we were all laughing. For me, honestly, I was like, ‘Ah, this will be a fun genre romp’, and I had a feeling we could do it well and that people would enjoy it and that it would be big on the service, but what it’s become has been very exciting for us because we really love this world too and to see it grow is really fun.”

Netflix and Snyder were at the very least confident Army of the Dead would hit big seeing as two companion projects were already deep into production by the time the franchise-launcher arrived, but at least they now know for sure that there’s a huge audience eager to see where the universe heads from here, with a sequel also having been announced.

Kang Will Reportedly Get To Wear The Blue Mask In [SPOILERS]

He Who Remains may have gotten a grandstanding introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Loki‘s Season 1 finale, but we technically haven’t met Kang the Conqueror yet. After the sole occupant of the Citadel at the End of Time was killed by Sylvie we’ll be seeing him sooner rather than later, though, along with countless other variants.

Having been declared the sole victor of a multiversal war that threatened to destroy the fabric of time itself, He Who Remains was evidently a hugely powerful being, who also happened to be the most benevolent of the variants, which is bad news for the entire franchise and the heroes who dwell within it.

A multitude of Kangs more than likely means a number of different looks, and we’re hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Captain America 4 with Anthony Mackie was in development long before it was confirmed – that when Jonathan Majors returns in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, he’ll be sporting much more comic-accurate duds.

According to our information, the classic blue mask with snazzy purple trim will be Kang’s ensemble of choice when he terrorizes Scott Lang and the rest of his Quantum Realm-hopping associates in Quantumania, which could yet pay off the theory that the Time Variance Authority calls the alternate dimension home.

The third installment in Paul Rudd’s solo series isn’t coming to theaters until February 2023, and while there are at least seven feature films and six Disney Plus shows coming between now and then, meaning we’ll no doubt be seeing Kang the Conqueror more than once in the interim, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will position him as the main antagonist of the film, and reportedly give him his classic look for good measure.

A Mediocre Chris Pratt Movie’s Been Dominating Netflix All Week

Since Chris Pratt first hit the Hollywood big time thanks to his star-making performance in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, he’s very rarely strayed from the charming, charismatic and quick-witted template that served him so well in his mainstream breakthrough.

In fact, the overwhelming majority of his live-action movie appearances since then have either seen him board or a pre-existing franchise, attempt to launch a new one or reboot a big name property. The actor will have been credited in fourteen films between 2014 and the end of next year, and only low budget Western The Kid stands out as a small scale project.

The 42 year-old lent his vocal talents to two LEGO movies, five installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Jurassic World trilogy, $150 million sci-fi romance Passengers and Amazon’s mega budget The Tomorrow War, so he doesn’t really do intimate drama. Even The Magnificent Seven remake came packed with star power and a blockbuster budget, which is probably why it’s been performing so well on Netflix for the last week.

magnificent seven

As a general rule of thumb, Westerns don’t tend to be particularly expensive to produce, but that obviously changes when you’re talking about an action-packed retread of a classic with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in the lead roles. Antoine Fuqua’s re-imagining is a solidly entertaining slice of escapism, but still doesn’t really offer enough to justify its own existence.

It isn’t a patch on the all-time great 1960 original, never mind Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, but it’s proven to be a huge hit with Netflix subscribers after spending the bulk of the last seven days hovering in or around the platform’s Top 10 most-watched list.

Here’s How Leslie Grace Could Look As HBO Max’s Batgirl

It’s been a long time coming, but the Batgirl movie is finally becoming a reality, and will go down in the history books as the first installment in the DCEU to be released exclusively on HBO Max. Of course, there’s no guarantees that it’ll even be official canon, but with the multiverse incoming everything technically takes place within the same timeline in one way or another.

Joss Whedon was the first to try and crack the story, and looking at how his reputation has been torpedoed since then, it’s probably for the best that he never got Batgirl off the ground. Birds of Prey and The Flash writer Christina Hodson penned the script, continuing to establish herself as one of the franchise’s go-to scribes, with directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah making the surprising choice to jump straight from the smash hit Bad Boys for Life into a superhero streaming story.

After beating out contenders that included Isabela Merced, Zoey Deutch and Haley Lu Richardson, In the Heights star Leslie Grace was hired to play the title heroine, in what will be just her second feature film appearance. New fan art from Arkin Tyagi has now imagined how the actress could look in a comic-accurate costume, which you can check out below.

Having spent years mired in development hell, Batgirl has exploded into life in the last few months, and a reported plot leak could even offer some potential details as to where the story is heading. Production is expected to kick off before the end of the year with an eye to debuting the HBO Max comic book blockbuster either in late 2022 or early 2023, and you’d expect it to come packed with franchise potential.

Army Of Thieves Reportedly Doesn’t Have Any Zombies

Yesterday saw the first teaser trailer for Army of Thieves arrive, and it looks to be an entirely different type of film from Army of the Dead. The connective tissue is there, but the prequel looks to be much more of a self-contained story that happens to take place in a world where the undead uprising has caused chaos and havoc in Las Vegas.

It’s an interesting approach to world-building, but that’s to be expected when Zack Snyder is involved. At various points, the filmmaker has compared Army of Thieves to The Italian Job, Ocean’s Eleven and a romantic comedy. Based on both the footage and the fact it takes place six years before Army of the Dead and on the other side of the planet, there doesn’t seem to be much direct connective tissue either, other than the presence of leading man and director Matthias Schweighöfer, as well as the exact same vault he knows how to crack in the recent Netflix smash hit.

We’re now hearing from our sources – the same ones who told us Netflix were giving The Witcher a spinoff long before Blood Origin was announced – that Army of Thieves isn’t going to feature any zombies at all. Of course, news clips were seen in the debut promo so the events at large are going to be referenced at points, but shuffling hordes of the undead will reportedly have no bearing whatsoever on the actual narrative.

Netflix and Snyder are keen to build out the Army of the Dead universe as much as possible, and tackling a variety of different stories in other genres that don’t have to rely on the tropes and archetypes of the zombie genre is definitely one way to go about it.
