Frustrated film fanatics lament the movies that were announced, but never made

History is littered by planned sequels, remakes, reboots, and assorted other adaptations that never made it out of development hell, but it’s a great deal more frustrating when projects are officially announced (and occasionally even given a release date), only to fall by the wayside and never make it to the big screen.

Jerry Bruckheimer recently resurrected the National Treasure 3 speculation by revealing a script would be on its way to Nicolas Cage shortly, a surprising turn of events when the leading man himself admitted that the opportunity had probably passed by a full 15 years after Book of Secrets.

Much was made in the buildup to Spider-Man: No Way Home of the Statue of Liberty getting a facelift to act as a tribute to Captain America, which was even referenced in Hawkeye, but turning the iconic landmark into an homage to the star-spangled superhero didn’t really factor into the multiversal spectacular at all.

Sure, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin kicked the ever-loving sh*t out of each other inside the upturned shield once it had toppled to the ground below, but besides that climactic ass-kicking between hero and villain, it was little more than window-dressing.
