On August 17th, Brydge will begin selling a new lineup of Surface accessories that have the “Designed for Surface” badge, meaning that they were made in collaboration with Microsoft. The lineup includes keyboards for the Surface Pro and Surface Go, but the most intriguing product in the group is the $99.99 W-Touch standalone trackpad. It’s apparently the first standalone wireless trackpad made for Windows 10.
The W-Touch is like a Magic Trackpad 2 that’s built for Windows 10 instead, coated in a striking black with an aluminum build. It has Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity and it supports Precision drivers and multitouch gestures, like pinch to zoom, and multifinger swipes to switch desktops. Even though Avengers: Endgame came out close to a year ago, the world is still talking about it. The climax to a story that started with the 2008 film Iron Man, it set a new standard for superhero movies that might never be topped again. And now that the film can be viewed on Disney+, audiences are experiencing the magic all over again.
For these reasons and more, it’s not surprising that even some previously unseen behind-the-scenes photos can make the news. Two of them, showing Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo and Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, recently surfaced online and together, they give viewers an impression of what making a Marvel movie is really like.
One pic shows Hemsworth standing underneath the Avengers ‘A’ sign wearing his trademark Endgame costume. This costume is not comprised of a sexy space viking suit, but a dirty, worn-out cardigan and some sweatpants. The character’s manes return, longer and more untamed than they have ever been before, and he sports a sizable belly.
The other photo, meanwhile, sees Ruffalo posing underneath the same sign while wearing a dotted motion capture suit. As its name suggests, the suit tracks his motion in order to provide a reference for the animators and VFX artists. It’s required clothing whenever The Hulk appears on screen, something he does more in Endgame than in virtually any other Avengers film.
As far as appearances go, Hulk and Thor probably changed the most throughout Avengers: Endgame. The Hulk changed for the better, as Banner was able to master his physical transformation without sacrificing his personality or mental capacity. Thor, meanwhile, went south – far south. Blaming himself for failing to beat Thanos, he gained weight and drowned his sorrows in beer and Fortnite.
That being said, expect him to be back to his usual self when he returns in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
Every week sees some cool movies being added to Netflix, but this week’s crop was particularly exciting. We got a couple of 90s classics, an all-time great and some big nostalgia hits. Let’s jump right in and look at the highlights.
Looming over everything is the Jurassic Park trilogy, comprising 1993’s Jurassic Park, 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park and 1999’s Jurassic Park III. Obviously, the real cinematic treat there is Spielberg’s original. Now approaching its thirtieth birthday, the blockbuster smash has aged like a fine wine and somehow, its CGI is still impressive even after huge technological strides in the intervening years. If you haven’t seen it before, grab some popcorn, crank up the subwoofer, turn down the lights and enjoy two hours of lawyer-munching, Samuel L. Jackson-eating, goat-destroying perfection.
As for the sequels? Well, I have a soft spot for The Lost World, but it’s a shadow of the first movie despite several cool setpieces. Jurassic Park III, meanwhile, is perhaps best skipped. It’s not terrible, but it’s simply a bit bland.
Beyond that hot dino action, we also got Michel Gondry’s iconic Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet in career-best performances. The endlessly creative movie is about a couple trying to wipe their memories of one another after a break-up. It was a hit when it released in 2004, won a bunch of awards and showcases how good Carrey can be in a relatively restrained dramatic role.
The first Mad Max from way back in 1979 also landed this week. To those who’ve only seen Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller’s low-budget, grimy and vicious original might come as a shock. It’s a mean little feature, set in the days just after civilization collapses. With Mad Max: The Wasteland set to shoot fairly soon, maybe now’s a good time to catch up with Max’s indie DIY roots?
On the nostalgia side, meanwhile, is The NeverEnding Story, a 1984 children’s movie that’s a cultural touchstone for a generation. Hot tip, if you want tears to well up in the eyes of a Gen-Xer, sidle up to them and whisper one word in their ear: “Artax.”
Finally, we also got 1993’s Dennis the Menace which is… well… I got nothing to say about this. I guess Walter Matthau is pretty fun in it, though.
My advice is to go with the dinosaurs on Netflix and follow it up with a Jim Carrey chaser. You won’t be disappointed.
Before Joss Whedon took over Justice League in 2017, Darkseid was supposed to be the main villain in the movie. The director ultimately decided to scrap this idea though and center the story around Steppenwolf, but since the Snyder Cut will bring back all those plot points, we’re excited to see the heroes go toe-to-toe with one of DC’s most iconic villains.
After years of campaigning, we’re finally going to see the long-anticipated Snyder Cut on HBO Max next year. The movie will supposedly incorporate all the elements that Zack Snyder initially envisioned for his version of the pic, too. What’s more, it’ll run for over three and a half hours. That’s plenty of time for the director to redeem the convoluted and messy theatrical cut. After all, one of the things that absolutely ruined the movie for fans was the rushed pacing.
But getting back to things that make us really excited about the Snyder Cut, the arrival of Darkseid will surely shake things up for the Dark Knight, the Man of Steel and the Amazonian Goddess and present them with an even bigger challenge. When it comes to these godlike beings, though, the World’s Greatest Detective lacks the power and stamina to keep up, especially Ben Affleck’s version who’s basically an older Bruce Wayne on the verge of retirement.
That being said, a new fan poster on Instagram shows the Caped Crusader preparing to face the Dark God on his turf and it looks every bit as epic as you’d imagine.
Of course, we still don’t know how Darkseid will make his debut or what his ultimate goal is for that matter. A previous report suggested that he’ll be back to exact revenge after his defeat at the hands of Ares and Zeus, but that remains to be confirmed. Whatever it is that Snyder has planned, we’re sure that Batfleck will somehow manage to hold his own as he usually does.
Tell us, though, are you excited about the arrival of Darkseid in the Justice League Snyder Cut? And what do you expect to see from him in the movie? Sound off below.
In these strange times we live in, when most theaters remain closed and finding new content to consume is harder than ever, streaming services have really stepped up their game. Be it Netflix, Hulu, Prime, Disney Plus or any of the other big players, each platform has been doing their best to ensure that folks have a steady stream of movies/TV shows coming down the pipeline to keep them entertained.
Netflix, in particular, have done an exceptional job in this regard. And while they’re usually pretty good about making sure that their subscribers have something new to feast on each and every day, today – August 9th – has seen an impressive streak come to an end.
You see, since July 28th, Netflix has delivered at least one new piece of content per day. Be it a movie or TV series, there’s been at least one – and usually, more – new arrival on the platform. But today, there’s nothing. Not a single thing.
To be fair, July 28th wasn’t too long ago and the streamer has had longer streaks of delivering fresh content. But still, they went on an impressive run right at the end of last month that lasted up until today. Don’t expect the drought to remain in place for long, though.
Indeed, tomorrow the new material will resume flowing down the pipeline again and almost every day for the rest of August will have at least a few new additions. In fact, this week alone there’s over 25 movies and TV shows to look forward to. And with originals like Project Power and classic films like Nightcrawler, Casino Royale and Les Misérables all on their way to Netflix, subscribers will have more than enough to keep them busy.
