An MCU threequel we knew was coming and a Disney Plus series we really didn’t confirmed to be in development at Marvel Studios

Even with the strikes braking Hollywood to a standstill, Marvel Studios is still powering along behind the scenes as it brings even more new projects to the table. Naturally, even though Kevin Feige and company keep things as locked down as they possible can, we still hear rumblings about what the House of Ideas has cooking, and so news that a movie sequel and a Disney Plus series have officially entered development has now reached our ears.

And, you know what, while one of them is not much of a surprise, the other very much is. According to the latest issue of Production Weekly, Marvel Studios is getting cracking on Doctor Strange 3. Considering that Multiverse of Madness came oh-so-close to crossing the coveted $1 billion mark at the box office in 2022, it’s not exactly a shock that Marvel’s cooking up a threequel for Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer. Especially given the recent rumors about the comic book event the film is potentially adapting.

On the other hand, the news that a Wiccan TV series is in the works is a much bigger deal. Yes, it seems that WandaVision is getting yet another spinoff in the form of a show all about Billy Maximoff aka Young Avengers team member Wiccan. Joe Locke is rumored to be playing the part in Agatha: Coven of Chaos but this has yet to be announced by the studio at this time. We had previously received the barest whispers that such a series was occurring, but now we know for certain a production with this title is underway.

It’s important to note that these two projects are in the works, not shooting, so don’t expect them to get going in the immediate future. Still, at least we know they’re coming eventually. Doctor Strange 3 is believed to be secretly scheduled for 2026, but a Wiccan show would probably stream a lot sooner than that.

‘This is a very new take on who they are and what brings them together’: ‘Thunderbolts’ director teases a different kind of MCU team-up

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in desperate need of a win following the disappointing performances of several Phase 4 and 5 installments. In the pipeline is one of the franchise’s most enigmatic projects to date, Jake Schreier’s Thunderbolts, featuring all of our favorite anti-heroes. No one really knows what to expect from the upcoming film, but the director promises a “very new take” on and a “deeper understanding” of the familiar characters and what brings them together.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Schreier lifted the lid ever so slightly on the star-studded Marvel project, teasing “something different” that is “probably not what people are expecting.” The Paper Towns director spoke about the excitement of working with such a renowned group of actors, including names like Harrison Ford, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour and his Beef teammate Steven Yeun.

“I think, look, obviously one of the first things that struck me about it was just what an incredible cast had been assembled. And I mean, who wouldn’t want to work with that cast in any form? So I think I’m just really excited about each of them.”

Besides getting to direct Yeun, Schreier also got to team up with Beef scribe Lee Sung Jin for the project. The prospect of bringing a winning team back together was as enticing as anything, which will hopefully be reflected in the final product. “I’d want to work with them over and over again for my career. When you find something like that, you just want to keep doing it,” the director offered.

In the comics, the Thunderbolts are made up of supervillains who try to replace the Avengers by disguising themselves as heroes. Of course, eventually, they really are reformed. It’s impossible to not immediately trace the parallels with other comic book stories, particularly DC’s The Suicide Squad, but with James Gunn out of the picture at Marvel Studios, it’s up to Schreier and Lee to actually keep their promises and deliver something we have not seen before.
