Robert Englund Wants To Voice Freddy In A Nightmare On Elm Street Animated Movie
At 72-years-old, Robert Englund is probably getting too old to still be playing his most iconic role, Freddy Krueger, in A Nightmare on Elm Street. In fact, the last time he put on the claws and burn makeup (save for a cameo appearance on The Goldbergs in 2018), it was for Freddie vs. Jason way back in 2003. But there is one other way he could still play the character.
While promoting his upcoming docuseries, True Terror, which will debut on the Travel Channel next month, Englund expressed interest in the possibility of an animated version of Krueger, saying:
“Now, if they did a really expensive animated version, a graphic novel animated version, I would love to go do the voice for it. Yeah, that would be fun to do.”
A Nightmare on Elm Street in animation would be an interesting idea, no doubt. We don’t often get R-rated animated content, but with the emergence of shows like Big Mouth and Bojack Horseman on Netflix, there’s certainly a market for it. The only hang up would be with the rights. The original director, Wes Craven, passed away in 2015 and the franchise is currently owned by the Craven estate. But they are taking pitches for new iterations, so who knows?
Of course, the last attempt was the forgettable 2010 reboot starring Jackie Earle Haley. New Line was hoping it would reinvigorate the franchise, but the only memorable aspect to that film was seeing a young Rooney Mara in it.
Englund would be interested in doing a cameo in a remake or reboot, too, and he even has a suggestion of which sequel he’d love to appear in.
“If, for instance, they remade Part III [Dream Warriors], which is the biggest hit of the franchise, I would love to be invited to do a cameo. I think there’s a tradition in horror movies and in remakes for the cameo. It’s a certain kind of valentine to the fans and I know that there’s a part in [Dream Warriors where] the great Priscilla Pointer… played this sort of skeptical dream therapist in the group sessions. I think it would be fun for me to play that part if there was a remake… To have me not believe in collective nightmares. Having played Freddy, everybody’s favorite nightmare, I think it would be fun for me to play a guy that doesn’t believe in nightmares.”
It actually might be the perfect time to remake A Nightmare on Elm Street as well. The 2018 Halloween was a massive success and there’s two more sequels on the way. And with Elm Street’s competition, Friday The 13th, currently in a legal battle, the time really seems to be right now.

Paranormal Activity Producer Offers An Update On Upcoming Sequel
Ever since it was announced that another Paranormal Activity was in the works, many have wondered when the next chapter in the frightening franchise would terrify audiences once again. There’s been little news on the upcoming film’s development, but one of the producers has now offered an update. Unfortunately, though, it’s not terribly positive.
Love them or despise them, the Paranormal Activity franchise has been one of the most successful in the entire genre of horror. The first movie back in 2007 only cost a meager $15,000 and brought in $194 million. Altogether, the six films have grossed a combined effort of $890 million, which is higher than the likes of Halloween, Predator, Scream and Final Destination. Not all of them have been well-received though, and the property did start to experience some fatigue with their last few entries. Still, it seems enough time has passed and fans could very well get behind another chilling chapter.
In fact, it was announced last summer that a new found footage fright-fest was on its way and then in November, a release date was revealed. But since then, there’s been no activity on the paranormal film series. During an interview with Bloody Disgusting though to promote The Invisible Man reboot starring Elisabeth Moss, Blumhouse producer Jason Blum gave the following status report:
“The answer is, I don’t know. I guess we’re about to find out, but I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know. It’s something that we’re talking about, but I don’t know what it’s going to wind up being… We’re writing the treatment. That’s it.”
The film is still in the very early stages, of course, and with them being only at the treatment stage of pre-production, there’s a good chance that the actual shoot won’t be anytime soon. But given how quickly these movies can be put together, that shouldn’t be much of a problem.
In any case, the seventh Paranormal Activity flick is scheduled to arrive on March 19th, 2021. Until then, fans can enjoy other Blumhouse titles like Fantasy Island, which is in theaters now and The Invisible Man, which opens in theaters on Friday.

Jason Blum Would Do A Get Out Sequel, But Only With Jordan Peele
He’s everywhere isn’t he? I think I’ve written about him 3 times in the last week. The man I’m referring to is of course Jason Blum; producer, shaman, philanthropist. Blum has had a hand in many movies as master of horrors at Blumhouse Production, one of which was 2017’s wildly successful Get Out.
As always with a big hit, clamour for more is banging at the door (enough with the rhymes). So, would Blum be interested in making a sequel? The answer is yes, but with a caveat. Not without Jordan Peele. That’s what he told Bloody Disgusting in this snippet, at least:
“I would do it in a second. But it’s totally up to Jordan [Peele]. I don’t think he has any plans for it. I would love to make more Get Out movies but he… let me say that really specifically: I would love to make more Get Out movies with Jordan…If anyone else wanted to make a Get Out movie I would not be interested. And Jordan right now is not doing any more Get Out movies. So there will not be another Get Out of anything, any kind.”
Peele directed the first, and to date only Get Out movie, and it’s a testament to his creative prowess – and Blum’s integrity – that the latter isn’t interested in a Get Out 2 without the former’s presence behind the camera. Good news and bad news for those who want to see it I suppose. Good because the desire is there on Blum’s part for it, bad because at this moment Peele appears to be interested in other projects. Let’s consider this one on ice for the time being.
In the meantime you’ll have to make do with the frankly massive wealth of material Blum has been producing in Get Out 2’s absence. Last year alone he released nine films. Nine. Not including the direct-to-video flic Prey that had one positive review out of six. But still. Nine movies, including Glass, Black Christmas and Us, to name a few.
I can’t speak for their quality (because I haven’t seen any of them, competent film critic that I am), but there surely has to be some good stuff in there. Drop a comment if you can confirm this assumption, or deny it, either works for me. A sequel to Get Out looks a little way off whatever the answer is.

Doctor Strange Director Wants To Helm New Constantine Movie
Earlier this year, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hit a speed bump when Scott Derrickson split from the project due to creative differences with Marvel. The news that Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is likely taking over the reins is exciting, for sure, but fans of Derrickson are disappointed that we won’t get to see him make the horror-infused comic book movie he’s been waiting to make since he signed up to do 2016’s Doctor Strange and had to tone down the weirdness to keep the studio happy.
Could Derrickson hop over to DC though and make a supernatural superhero film for them instead? It seems possible, as the filmmaker has just made his interest in a certain occult character in DC’s library known on Twitter. One fan asked Derrickson if he would be up for helming a Justice League Dark film for Warner Bros., to which he responded: “I’d do Constantine.”
Justice League Dark, which has been in development hell over at WB for years now, would feature John Constantine as the leader of the group, but it seems the ensemble element of that movie doesn’t appeal to Derrickson and he’d rather just do a standalone vehicle for the Hellblazer. Well, luckily for him, that could be arranged, as a new take on the hero is said to be in development.
There’s some debate behind the scenes though, according to our intel, over whether to get Keanu Reeves back to do a loose sequel to his 2005 film or whether to go in a more comic-accurate direction and recast the role with a more authentic Constantine – Dan Stevens, maybe? Either way, Derrickson would be a strong choice to direct it. Poaching another Marvel director to make one of their movies has worked well for WB in the case of The Suicide Squad‘s James Gunn, after all.
Would you like to see Doctor Strange‘s Scott Derrickson helm a Constantine film for DC, though? Share your opinions in the usual place down below.

Jason Blum Thought The Conjuring Universe Would Be Preposterous
When The Conjuring came out in 2013, film universes were still in their infancy. But off the back of Marvel’s burgeoning box office billions, seven years later we’re drowning in them. Dark Universe this, Monster Universe that, sometimes you just want to watch a movie in its own right. Let’s get back to the topic at hand before my cinematic universe rant derails this article for good.
When The Conjuring came out in 2013 (this sounds familiar), producer Jason Blum thought the idea of a Conjuring film universe sounded “preposterous,” to use his word. Here’s the full quote from his interview with Fandom:
“I’ll tell you a funny story about The Conjuring. A month or two after it turned into a huge hit, someone said to me: “We’re going to make a Conjuring universe”. It wasn’t James [Wan] because I wouldn’t have doubted James, [it was] someone else who was involved in it. But I thought that was preposterous and, in fact, that’s what they did. It’s pretty amazing — it goes off into all these things, and I would love to have been involved with it.”
Fast forward to 2020 and it’s the most successful horror franchise of all time (second if you include Godzilla, which Wikipedia does for some reason). That includes two Conjuring movies, three Annabelles, The Nun, and The Curse of La Llorona. Not bad going for a preposterous idea, eh?
Next in line for conjurers is a third film in the main series, titled The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Sounds like a laugh. It’ll make its bow this September 11th. My earlier point still stands.
For now we’ll go our separate ways, or at least until something conjury comes this way. Like, you know, The Conjuring. Leave a comment if you’ve been dabbling in the occult recently, and we’ll make sure to forward your details to the relevant psychiatric services. I’m kidding, it doesn’t have to have been recently. Maybe you used an Ouija board at a children’s birthday party and it gave you the exact time and place your soul is going to be harvested by the undead.
Would you look at that? Time’s up.
