Mitchell (60 off 92 balls) shared 73 runs for the fourth wicket with Henry Nicholls (36 batting) to provide much needed resistance in New Zealand's improbable chase of 540.

Willem Dafoe teases Green Goblin’s return in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Even though we’d known for a while that he was set to return, Willem Dafoe’s involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man: No Way Home wasn’t officially confirmed until the second trailer dropped, although we didn’t actually get to see the actor’s face.

Having chewed on the scenery to great effect in Sam Raimi’s 2002 original, fans are understandably hyped about seeing the veteran star make his comeback to the world of web-slinging as he prepares to do battle with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, and perhaps even Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Fans are going nuts for first ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ footage

It takes some doing to steal the spotlight away from Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has been at the forefront of the superhero fanbase’s thinking for months now, but a two and a half minute tease of animated sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is definitely one way to go about it.

The project had been maintaining virtual radio silence as it moved through production, although co-director Kemp Powers did tease that some major news was coming soon. As it turns out, he was dramatically underselling it, with Sony pulling out all the stops to drop multiversal bomb after bomb.

Watch: Ridley Scott tells interviewer to go f*ck himself

Ridley Scott has been veering dangerously close to ‘old man yells at cloud territory’ recently, having described the superhero genre as “f*cking boring as sh*t”, becoming the latest veteran filmmaker to voice his displeasure at big budget tales featuring spandex-clad crimefighters.

On top of that, he also blamed millennials unable to tear themselves away from their cellphones for The Last Duel bombing at the box office, which ironically came shortly before his House of Gucci landed the highest-grossing opening weekend since 2019 for a straightforward drama.

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ confirmed as a two-part story

By now, you’ve probably watched the first look at Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse more than once, which is understandable when it’s promising a sequel that’s every bit the equal of its Academy Award-winning, acclaimed and all-round beloved predecessor.

Right at the end of the footage is perhaps the most exciting reveal of all, after it’s confirmed to be just the first half of a two-part story. In many cases, studios deciding to split one movie into two parts often yields criticism that it’s a cynical move designed to wring out some extra box office dollars from audiences, not to name The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in particular.

Action-packed ‘Morbius’ clip is beginning to win over the doubters

The last time Jared Leto played a pale-faced comic book character, it would be an understatement of epic proportions to say that the response was wildly polarizing. Even though he redeemed himself substantially with his cameo as the Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, fans were hardly buzzing over Sony’s upcoming Morbius.

In fact, the online community was actively bummed when it discovered the first teaser trailer for the Living Vampire’s live-action debut was coming before the second full-length promo for Spider-Man: No Way Home that folks had been demanding for months, but the first official Morbius clip may have changed those perceptions.

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ synopsis tease a new team of Spideys

One of the best things about Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse were the unexpected appearances of many deep cuts from the character’s extensive and illustrious comic book history, whether it was Nicolas Cage’s Noir playing a major supporting role, or a brief cameo from Jon Mulaney’s Spider-Ham.

Now that we’ve gotten our first look at sequel Across the Spider-Verse, we can safely assume that the ante is set to be upped significantly. The footage teased a much more substantial part in the story for Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099, and you can bet that there are plenty more web-slingers across the multiverse being kept under wraps.

Sony reveals 3 new ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ images

The bombs just keep on dropping for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which only revealed the first footage a few hours ago. The animated sequel instantly became one of the hottest topics on the entire internet, with Sony responding in kind with a whole heap of brand new information.

We’ve got Oscar Isaac confirmed for a major role as Spider-Man 2099, along with an official plot synopsis and the massive reveal that Across the Spider-Verse is only the first chapter of a two-part story. It’s unfortunate that the movie is still eleven months way from release, because we could really do with seeing it now.

Michael Bay’s most underrated movie is finding love on Netflix

We can all agree that Michael Bay is never going to direct a small, intimate, character-driven drama. Even if he did, he’s probably find a way to sneak at least one explosion into the story. Cinema’s pre-eminent purveyor of pyrotechnic carnage knows exactly who he is and what he does, but that doesn’t mean he’s averse to mixing it up on the rare occasion.

Bay has helmed fourteen features since debuting with Bad Boys back in 1995, and for the most part they all tick the same boxes regardless of genre. His films are big, broad, expensive, packed with one-dimensional archetypes and largely unremarkable scripts, but they all possess an impressive level of visual polish.

Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 sends ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ fans wild

As you’ve no doubt noticed, Sony’s animated sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has at least temporarily overtaken the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s No Way Home as the most hotly-anticipated upcoming movie starring the friendly neighborhood superhero.

Tom Holland’s contributions to the CCXP convention may have seen Willem Dafoe offer his first public comments on returning as Norman Osborn for the first time since the Sam Raimi era, but it’s been comfortably blown out of the water by the next multiversal adventure for Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales.

Watch: Brendan Fraser gets surprise birthday party on ‘Batgirl’ set

What’s more wholesome than Brendan Fraser, one of the most popular and beloved actors on the planet? Why, it’s Brendan Fraser being thrown a surprise birthday party by the cast and crew of HBO Max’s DC Comics adaptation Batgirl, of course.

The Mummy star may be playing the villain in the superhero blockbuster from Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Billal Fallah, but that isn’t going to make the internet love the actor any less. After spending far too long in the wilderness, Fraser is in the midst of a well-deserved and fully earned renaissance, and breaking bad in the DCEU is the icing on the cake.

‘Into the Spider-Verse’ producers address rumors of Miles Morales in ‘No Way Home’

Tom Holland said that he didn’t want to be playing Spider-Man once he reaches 30, which is less than five years away, so Sony are going to have to move quickly with plans for a brand new trilogy starring the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Peter Parker. Either that, or they’ll simply throw enough money at him to break his vow.

The actor has been vocal in the past about wanting to share the screen with Miles Morales one day, who exists as part of MCU canon after he was indirectly name-dropped by Donald Glover’s Aaron Davis in Homecoming, and most recently Holland said he’d love to see Miles become the next permanent Spidey once he hangs up the suit for good.

Tom Holland reveals how ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ begins

Everybody’s hyped about the multiversal shenanigans set to dominate Spider-Man: No Way Home, a fair enough response when it’s almost certainly going to culminate in Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire joining forces to battle against at least five bad guys from multiple realities.

Throw in the mystical elements presented by the heavy involvement of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and some mind-bending set pieces we’ve seen teased in the various trailers and TV spots, and it’s easy to forget that there’s plenty of narrative table-setting to get out of the way first.
